Mum, there's something you should know

A/n: I'm so mad at the s5 finale I'm re-making it with Lukadrien and NOT erasing all Adriens trauma. And EmiNath sprinkled in there.

So much had happened over the past few months, for the first time things felt... normal. It was odd, Adrien was so used to stress and trauma the calmness was foreign to him. But if there was one thing he was happy with, it was the fact his mum was ok. She was alive, she was safe, that's all he ever wanted.

The death of his father he wasn't actually that distraught about, it was a relief. He'd grown to resent the man over the years, after everything that sick excuse for a parent put him through.

The wish bought Emilie back, and when it reconstructed the world it shaped some of the memories those who knew her held. Instead of her dying, people now thought she'd gone missing. Of course those involved knew the truth, but to the public it was a miracle that a missing person of several years had been found alive. The reason she went missing was something the public didn't know, as the case was tightly kept under wraps since she was a public figure.

Ladybug knew, Nathalie knew, Adrien knew. They all knew the truth.

Adrien had a hard time dealing with everything directly after it happened. He didn't care that his shit dad was dead, he was furious and betrayed to find out he was hawkmoth all along, he was distraught knowing he never got to face off with the man one final time because he was locked in that damn white room, he was so mixed with emotions. Glad his mum was alive and Nathalie was ok, but wrecked about everything that had happened to him at the hands of his father. Upon waking up, Emilie was beyond confused, and the only other person in the house she could find was Nathalie who had to break the news to her.

After a flurry of confusing emotions the first thing she did was find Adrien, and held him tight as they sobbed together. Everything was a complete mess, but they had each other. Adrien was her baby, her miracle child she'd tried so hard for. She loved Adrien more than anything else on the planet and as long as he was alive and safe she didn't care Gabriel was gone. Especially after what he did to her baby.

Now several months later when things had finally calmed down a bit, Emilie wanted to finally get to meet all Adriens new friends he'd made over the years she was gone. So she let Adrien invite them all over for a pool day in the hot summer sun. But there was still one thing she didn't know yet, Adrien just didn't have the time to tell her in all the frenzy that was the aftermath of Gabriel.

Luka. She didn't know about him yet, about how ever since Adrien joined kitty section the two had become inseparable. What started as band mates grew into best friends and eventually lovers. They'd helped each other deal with their brake ups, they knew each others hero identities, they both had daddy issues they'd bonded over, they were practically soulmates.

Even though Adrien knew his mum would love him no matter what, and she'd not care at all he was with a boy, he was still nervous. It was probably the fact so much of the world was still unaccepting and he'd heard plenty of stories about queer kids getting kicked out. Even though he knew he'd be fine, the history of negativity toward coming out stuck with him and scared him.

"Hey, don't go falling asleep just yet"

Adrien snapped himself out of his daze, looking up at Luka leaning over him and smiling down at him.

"Hm? Oh right... man I'm so tired" he replied.

"I don't blame you, not after everything that's happened. Are you ok?" Luka asked.

"I'll be fine... I feel a lot better than I did a few months ago"

"That's good, don't force yourself to speed run recovery ok? Trauma is complex and you went through a lot. Take your time, recovery isn't linear. And I'll be here for you every step of the way"

Adrien smiled, his heart skipping a beat. How did me manage to find someone as amazing as Luka? He felt like he'd struck gold.

"Thanks, I love you" he smiled.

"I love you too" Luka replied.

Adrien sat up, finding himself slightly sunburnt from almost falling asleep right in the sun. While everyone else was having fun in the pool he'd gotten out to catch his breath a while ago, by now he was almost completely dry just form the sun alone.

"Damnit... why do I burn so easily?" He sighed.

"Can't relate, I tan" Luka teased.

"Shut up, lucky bastard"

"Maybe get into she shade before you cook yourself alive"

Adrien looked over at all his friends having fun, this was the first time most of them had ever even been in his house. He'd known them for so long now, but it wasn't until his dad was out of the picture they were allowed over. His mum was so eager to have Adrien socialise with his friends and wanted to know all of them, it was such a breath of fresh air.

He looked over at Emilie and Nathalie on the pool lounges, the two of them chatting and slipping iced tea like no time had passed at all. Nathalie looked healthy again, so much happier. And Emilie? She was glowing. She was smiling, healthy, her eyes were full of life. It was so nice to see the two people Adrien considered real parents so happy. And dare he say it... he kind of shipped them.

Nathalie looked so much more full of life around Emilie than she ever did with Gabriel. She looked at her with such sincerity, and Emilie smiled the brightest when she was laughing with Nathalie. If only she'd married Nathalie and not Gabriel, maybe none of this would have happened.

But they couldn't dwell on a past they couldn't change. There was something else that needed focus, the future. Moving forward from everything that had happened and healing from it, making the most of the new life they had. But Adrien couldn't fully do that if he had to hide Luka... it was about time he told his mum.

"Luka" he spoke up.

"Hm?"

"Let's tell her"

"You sure? You don't have to push yourself" Luka replied.

Luka knew Adrien was nervous about it, they'd talked about it before. He was ok staying a secret for a while until the time was right.

"I'm ready, she deserves to know. Plus, I can't really move on if I have to hade you" Adrien said, getting up and holding his hand out for Luka.

Giving him a reassuring smile, Luka took his hand and they headed over to the adults over on the lounges. They turned to face the boys as they got closer, Nathalie spotting their linked hands and immediately knowing what was up. She was the only one in the household who already knew, she was the one who'd assured Adrien it was ok to like boys and that Emilie would still love him no matter what.

"Darling! You having fun? You kids look like you're having a blast" Emilie smiled.

"Yeah, we're having fun. Thanks for letting everyone come over" Adrien replied.

"Of course honey! I want you to have fun and enjoy your youth. Me and Nat were a bit rowdy at your age we know what it's like"

Nathalie snickered, shaking her head.

"You were the rowdy one, I was the one who got you out if trouble" Nathalie said.

"You had fun though didn't you?" Emilie teased.

Nathalie gave Adrien a knowing look, nodding in reassurance at him.

"Mum... there's something you should know..." Adrien began.

"What's up honey? You know you can tell me anything" Emilie replied.

"So uh..."

He glanced over at Luka, who gave his hand a reassuring squeeze.

"...I've kind of been in a relationship, for months now actually. Since before you came back" Adrien admitted.

Immediately catching on, Emilie beamed and perked up, excitedly grabbing Nathalie's arm.

"I KNEW there was something going on between you two! Nat did you know about this? That look says you did" Emilie exclaimed.

"I did. I'd have told you but I figured it was best they did it on their own time" Nathalie replied.

"Ahh! You boys are so cute tell me everything!"

Adrien smiled, giving Luka a relived look and unconsciously moving closer to him.

"So... you don't care I like boys?" Adrien asked.

"Honey you could kiss a lamp and I wouldn't care as long as you're happy, don't stress it! Plus it'd be very hypocritical of me if I didn't support you when my childhood bestie is the most bisexual woman I've ever met" Emile replied, nudging Nathalie at the end only to get a playful eye roll from her.

Adrien sighed in relief, even though he knew everything would be ok, it still felt like a weight off his shoulders.

"I told you it's be ok, your mum is where you get your ray of sunshine personality form after all" Luka smiled.

"See, this is why I like him. He's so kind, Adrien you have better taste in men then I ever did" Emilie said.

Earning a guilty snicker from the boys, Emilie was glad to see them smiling and happy. She met Luka as his family a month or so again when she dropped Adrien off at a band practice, wanting to see them play something. Her son joined a band while she was gone, of course she'd want to see them play! She noticed immediately that he and Luka were very close. The leaping into a hug, the constant 'are you ok?' From Luka after everything that happened, the way they smiled at each other and laughter together. It all screamed teen love, she just didn't know if they were actually together or just crushing yet.

"Luka honey, if Gabriel ever did anything to you or your family I'm so sorry. Just being around Adrien made anyone a target to him, I can assure you I'm not like that and never will be. You're dating my child therefore you're part of the family now ok? You're always welcome to show up at the door at any time" Emilie assured.

"Adrien always talked about you, there's no doubt in my mind even before I met you that you're ten times the person Gabriel ever was. Thank you for raising such a wonder person, I don't know what I did to deserve him" Luka replied.

Adrien couldn't help but blush at those words, his mother noticing and cooing over his cute her baby was when he was in love.

"Now tell me everything, I want to know the whole story. How you met, when was the oh shit I'm in love moment, the first kiss? Everything! What is it you kids say now? Spill the tea?" Emilie rambled excitedly.

Even with all the horrible things that had happened to him over the last few years, Adrien knew he'd be ok and he'd get through it. He had Luka, he had his mum(s), he had his friends. And most importantly, no abuser watching his every move. He could finally be free, love who he wanted to love and be a family again.

That wish may have meant Gabriel won in a way, but at least he had his mum back, and she was welcoming to his beloved boyfriend he'd affectionately started calling babyblue.
