Miracu-bits

A/n: so I came up with this back in 2022 and drew it. But I found the pic again and figured hey let's make a oneshot. It's based on the anime chobits, my fav 2000s anime after death note. But you don't need to have seen it, I'll explain everything in the story. Here's the pic from 2022 for reference. (My art has seriously improved since then)

A persacom was a majorly expensive but amazing new thing that everyone wanted. The most basic ones were small, could only do basic functions like a pocket sized computer. But the full size, human looking ones were technology to marvel at. They were completely machine, but looked so human, felt so human, sounded so human, the only giveaway they were an android was the almost cat like ear ports that opened up to allow for plugging things in. A brand new full size one would cost you upwards of $25000 and a second hand one was still at least $10000. They were made to be personal assistants, intelligent enough to run errands, help in shops, babysit, the works.

So there was no way Luka was getting one.

Or so he thought.

He'd been walking home late, having finished a shift at his part time job not far from his houseboat. He was ready to just get into bed and pass out... the street was quiet, the streetlights lit his path home and most of the city had gotten inside and ready for dinner and bed already. He'd have taken his bike... but the front tire was busted, so he was stuck walking for a few weeks.

Half asleep already, he rounded the corner almost home and almost had a heart attack when he saw something tossed in a pile of rubbish out for pickup. It looked like a whole dead body for a second, until he noticed the ear ports of a persacom.

"There's so way..." he muttered, walking up to it and looking it over.

The persacom was built to look like a short, blonde boy. The ear ports painted black and vaguely cat shaped. It was wrapped up in what seemed to be plastic to keep all its limbs together, but was otherwise completely bare. Luka couldn't understand why someone would throw out such an expensive persacom and not sell it. It looked perfectly fine. No scratches, breaks or missing parts on the surface.

If it was left for curb side... he could just take it right?

Maybe there was some internal damage? Surely he could get that fixed simple enough right?

Not wanting to pass up this chance, he picked the persacom up, and carried it back home. When he opened the door, it was only his sister home with his mother still working until a bit later. She almost had a heart attack too when she saw her brother carrying in what looked to be a person.

"Duuuddee... is that a fucking persacom? Where'd you get that?" She asked, immediately getting up off the couch to see.

"Someone just threw him out but he looks perfectly fine" Luka replied.

Luka set the persacom down, now he was home in the light he could get a much better look. He and his sister poked around at it, checking for damage but they couldn't find anything wrong with it externally.

"How do you turn it on?" Juleka asked.

"No idea, there's meant to be a button somewhere right?" Luka replied.

He opened one of the ear ports, looking for something to press. Inside were ports for chargers, computer chords, SD cards and USBs, but no button.

"Unwrap him, maybe it's under the plastic" Juleka said.

"He looks so real I feel like I'm violating him if I expose him..." Luka replied.

"Then put some clothes on him dumbass"

Luka took off his jacket, which would fit more like a dress on the smaller persacom. He unwrapped the arms and slipped them into the sleeves, covering up the boys body as he and his sister tore the plastic off. They looked around for a switch, moving the limbs around and checking the hands and feet for any hidden little buttons. It wasn't until Luka lifted a leg he noticed there was a small button on the inner thigh.

"Bro why'd they have to put it there?" He snickered.

"I guess there's not much of a risk of accidentally knocking against it there, unlike if it were on the outer side" Juleka shrugged.

"Yeah probably, well let's see if he's got any battery..."

Luka pressed the button, holding it down for a moment until he started to hear an electric whirling type noise. The persacom opened its eyes, revealing bright green realistic looking doe eyes, cute and curious. Inside the pupils were barely noticeable cameras the computer used to see. He sat up, looked around seemingly scanning his environment.

"Holy shit-" Juleka said.

"Ok I just hit the fucking jackpot, he works! Even if there's a little damage we can fix that right? I mean he looks almost brand new and turns on" Luka replied.

The persacom looked down at itself, scanning the clothing it was wearing and the state of its body. It looked like it was gathering information on its current whereabouts and state.

"What do we do now?" Luka asked.

"I mean they're programmed with basics right? And you can add complex stuff? So I guess we can try the basics first" Juleka said.

The persacom turned to look at its new owner, figuring out the jacket it wore probably belonged to the boy with blue hair. It crawled up to him, sat in front of him almost like a cat and seemingly waited for instructions.

"Looks like it's identified you as the owner" Juleka said.

"Looks like it... hm, what can we test first..?" Luka replied.

The twins pondered for a moment, wondering where to start. But they were snapped from their thoughts when the persacoms started to make noises.

"A-Ad..."

"Huh?" Luka muttered.

"Maybe that's why it was tossed? Sounds like it's voice programming is a bit busted..." Juleka replied.

"Adri-" the persacom spoke.

Adri? That sounded kind of like a word... hang on-

"Adri-en? Adrien?" Luka asked.

"Adrien!" The persacom spoke.

The twins looked at each other for a moment, trying to figure out what the android meant by Adrien. Was it the name of the previous owner? Or the name programmed into the computer?

"Is that your name? Adrien?" Luka asked.

The persacom nodded, an exited smile broke across Luka's face. So the speech wasn't busted! It must have just been buffering.

"Dude this is so cool. I'm Luka, this is my twin sister Juleka" Luka introduced.

Adrien processed for a moment, quiet electric white noise emitting from him. He bought his hand up, pointing to the boy opposite him.

"Luka" he said.

"Yes! Yes I'm Luka, good job" Luka replied.

Adrien moved his hand to Juleka, pointing at her.

"Juleka" he said.

"Yooo this is so cool!" Juleka smiled.

What luck has smiled on Luka to have found a WORKING full size persacom for free? What was the catch? There had to be a catch. This was too good to be true. He was in almost perfect condition, his hair could use a brush and they should probably give him a wash. But he had no scratches or breaks and seemed to work fine. Plus, he was adorable. Big bright eyes, porcelain skin, a cute smile and endearing voice.

"What brand are you? Maybe that way we can look up some information" Luka asked.

Again, some electrical whirling emitted from him, but the scan came up empty handed when Adrien didn't respond.

"No data?" Luka asked.

Adrien shook his head. Luka wasn't that surprised, if he was thrown out then the old owners would have probably wiped his memory and data.

"Hmm... is there a serial number somewhere?"

Luka again checked Adrien over. Adrien obediently and silently sitting there letting his new owner poke around at him.

"I can't find any logos or serial numbers..." Luka muttered.

"Maybe he's a custom?" Juleka replied.

"Actually you're probably right. He looks too... unique to be an off the shelf model, and super realistic too..."

While that would make getting information on how to work Adrien a bit harder, Luka was sure he could figure something out if he just played around with him for a bit and saw what worked and what didn't. He and his sister started to throw around some ideas, Adrien simply sat and listened. Luka eventually pulled his bag over to get his laptop out, look some stuff up if he could. He put it up in the coffee table, leaving his bag open beside him.

Adrien looked at the bag, then up at the coffee table. He processed it, and began to work.

"Uh- Luka" Juleka said, pointing over at Adrien.

Luka looked up from his screen, and watched as Adrien began to take things from his bag and put them on the coffee table. First his phone, then his wallet, then his keys and school books. All in a neat like across the table. When the bag was empty, Adrien just sat back in his original spot and gave Luka a smile.

Was he... mimicking?

"Dude.... I think he's copying you. You take your laptop out and put it on the table, he takes everything else out and puts it on the table" Juleka explained.

"Yeah... it's like he's copying what he sees. Unless- no way does he have a self learning AI?" Luka replied.

Now THAT was a program very few persacoms had. Usually if you wanted your persacom to learn something you'd download a program that told it was to do. Self learning AI wasn't always reliable and it was hard to code so not many people even bothered with it. But if Adrien was copying the actions he saw, it seemed like he was learning by watching.

"That's insane, and this guy was just thrown out? Why would anyone throw out what's likely a custom with a super hard to get program?" Juleka asked.

"No idea, unless some rich asshole had him and when the cool new persacom came out they just tossed him. Because they're so rich and disconnected from reality they view anything old as not worth anything anymore" Luka shrugged.

Whatever the reason, there was no way Luka was getting rid of this guy. This was the luckiest he'd ever gotten and he wasn't going to ruin that. Although the possibility of Adrien being self learning got Luka thinking.

"Adrien, can you get my guitar for me?" He asked.

Adrien processed a second.

"Guitar- not learnt" he replied.

Luka got up, walked across the room and picked up his mums guitar from its stand.

"This is a guitar. This one is my mums, mine is in my room down that hallway, can you get it?" He asked.

Adrien scanned the guitar for a moment, got up and walked down the hall. In only about a minute, he'd come back with Luka's guitar, holding it the exact same way as Luka has showed him. That all but confirmed it; he definitely had a self learning AI.

"Here you go, Luka!" He smiled, handing over the guitar.

Luka just had to hold his guitar in stunned silence for a moment that it had actually worked. He laughed in amazement, giving Adrien a hair ruffle.

"Well done Adrien, you're truly amazing" he said.

"Adrien... is amazing?" He asked.

"Very amazing, you learn so quickly"

Before Luka could even react, he'd been pulled into a tight hug by the blonde. He and Juleka shared a shocked but amazed glance, before Luka simply returned the hug.

"Adrien will be a very amazing helper for Luka and his sister! Promise!" Adrien said.

Luka couldn't help but smile, he could really get used to having Adrien around...

"You'll do great Adrien... you'll do great..."
