If you don't know me I like to get into the big reasons first (that's how weird I am). The main reason there are people who dislike Lucy is because of her magic. If you people don't know who Karen is or that you forgot who she is, she was a celestial mage who was in Blue Pegasus that kept on torturing one of her zodiacs, named Aries.

Ok now let's talk about how much power she has to bond with her spirits. Before the Grand Magic Games, Lucy practiced bonding with them, and if you can just watch her, YOU CAN TELL SHE'S WORKING HER PANTS OFF! Well bathing suit underwear thingy actually. But yea, SHE TRIED TO FOCUS, SHE STAYED CALM, DIDN'T THROW A FIT OR KICKED A TREE BECAUSE IT WAS SO HARD (LIKE I WOULD'VE DONE), AND SHE PRACTICED!!!! Even her friends are proud of what she does and that makes her and everyone happy. When you watch the anime closely, notice how when the spirits are out of power she accepts them to go back to the spirit world because she knows that they tried their hardest and she respects that? That's a true mage right there! Atleast she didn't force them to fight for her till they are dead! She has a warm heart ❤ that's what the spirits see.
