Chapter 4
A/N: WARNING: Contains talk about sexual assault and r*pe.
Clover and Qrow arrive at the crime scene, where the body of twenty-year-old, Jillian Warner, was found. Those two, Robyn, and Winter search the scene, looking for any evidence that links Tyrian to the murder. The wounds on Jillian Warner's body matched those of Gregory Mullen's and others who were murdered by Tyrian. So, until the autopsy report comes in, it looks like that Jillian Warner was indeed murdered by Tyrian Callows.
"Winter, Robyn, you two go and talk to the victim's roommate. Clover, you and Qrow need to interview her boss; cause she was on her way home from work when she was attacked." James told them.
He gives them the addresses then sends them on their way. Qrow drives him and Clover to the restaurant that Jillian Warner worked at. They go in and ask the hostess where the manager was.
"Mr. Bryant is in his office, that way." the hostess told them pointing to a door at the back of the restaurant.
The detective and the FBI agent walk through the restaurant and into the manager's office. The moment they come face to face with Kurt Bryant, Clover immediately paled. In his eyes were fear, trauma, and recognition; and not the good kind of recognition. It was like he was looking at a ghost from his past...or perhaps a demon from his past.
During the interview, Clover never looked at Kurt, he kept his gaze at his feet as he sat with his hands shaking and his knee bouncing. He also never spoke, Qrow had to do all the talking. Though, Kurt didn't really talk much about Jillian, he mostly flirted with Qrow and Clover...the creepy, perverted kind of flirting. In fact, everything about Kurt gave Qrow total creep vibes. Clover's behavior concerned Qrow, because it was a behavior he knew all to well. Being a detective, he knew how to recognize a victim when he saw one. At one point, Kurt had placed his hand high up on Clover's thigh, making the agent flinch and bolt out of the room.
Qrow stares at the door Clover had just exited, shocked.
"What's his problem?" Kurt chuckled.
The detective just shoots a glare at the man and walks away. As he's walking through the restaurant, Qrow starts putting the pieces together, and came up with a horrible solution. He determined that Kurt had done something terrible to Clover in his past. Deep down, he knew what it was, but he didn't want to admit it to himself. Qrow finds Clover in the car with his head in his hands, crying and having a panic attack. He didn't dare ask if he was okay, because he knew he wasn't.
"Let's get you somewhere to calm down." Qrow said starting the car.
The only noise during the car ride was Clover's quiet sobs. When they get to Tai's house, Qrow gently leads Clover to his room. Luckily, no one was home; Tai was at work, Yang was at Blake's, and Ruby was at the dog park with Zwei. Clover and Qrow sit on the edge of Qrow's bed.
"Do you need anything? Something to drink?" Qrow asked.
"No, I just...don't want to be alone right now." Clover replied wiping his face with his sleeve.
"Okay, I'm here." Qrow said putting his hand on Clover's shoulder.
For a while, the two just sit in silence, giving Clover a chance to calm down.
"Sorry you had to see me like that." Clover apologized.
"It's alright, I have those all the time." Qrow said.
"Clover, did Kurt Bryant....did he...ya know...?" he asked, trying to find the right words.
Clover nods, fresh tears running down his cheeks. Qrow felt a burning hot rage form deep in his chest. He clenched his fist tightly until there were fingernail marks on his palm.
"How long ago was it?" Qrow asked Clover.
"Seventeen years ago...I was only 17." Clover answered.
"My god...how is that sick b*stard not in prison?" Qrow asked, starting to show his anger.
"I pressed charges, but since his uncle was the mayor of the city I lived in at the time, he got away with it." Clover explained.
This made Qrow even angrier, he hated when people would use their social status to escape justice.
"After that, everyone thought I was the bad guy. That I was a liar, that I was trying to seek attention. All the kids at school started calling me, the boy who cried r*pe. It was so bad that my family and I had to move all the way to New York." Clover said.
"I'm so sorry that happened to you. Seeing him again after so many years must have triggered a lot of bad memories." Qrow said wrapping his arm around Clover's shoulders.
"Yeah...it did. I felt so weak and helpless, just like when he....that's why I became an FBI agent. I wanted to bring criminals to justice, and I would do it no matter how many strings they try to pull." Clover replied.
He takes a deep calming breath and runs his hand through his hair. Clover looks at Qrow and gives him a greatful smile.
"Thanks." Clover said smiling.
"You would've done the same for me." Qrow chuckled shyly, blushing.
"Of course I would. You're my friend, Qrow...I care about you." Clover said scooting closer to Qrow.
Their bodies were now pressed against each other, faces inches apart; and Qrow's arm was still draped across Clover's shoulders. Qrow's face burned with the amount of blushing he was doing. As Clover's face got closer and closer, Qrow's brain became less and less functional. Their lips were almost touching when they heard the front door being opened.
"Uncle Qrow! Are you here? I saw your car out front!" Ruby called out from the living room.
"That's, uh...that's Ruby. I, umm...I'll be right back." Qrow said nervously, abruptly standing up.
He stumbles out of the room and goes into the living room. When Qrow enters the living room, his niece looks at him confused.
"What are you doing home so early, Uncle Qrow?" Ruby asked.
"Something happened that stressed Clover out pretty bad, so I took him here to calm down." answered Qrow.
"Oh no, what happened?" Ruby asked concerned.
"It's really not my place to say." Qrow replied.
"Oh, okay. Hmm...I know what will make him feel better! Puppy cuddles and cookies! Zwei, go to Qrow's room." Ruby said.
Zwei bounds towards Qrow's room as Ruby makes her way to the kitchen.
"Hey, Rubes, can you keep an eye on him for me? There's something I gotta do." Qrow said grabbing his car keys out of his pocket.
Ruby replied with a thumbs up. Qrow gets into his car and drives back to the restaurant. He stomps into Kurt's office, closes the door behind him, then delivers a right hook to the jaw. Now he has him pinned down on his desk.
"I know what you did to him, you sick son of a b**ch." Qrow growled at him.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Kurt lied.
"Don't you lie to me, you piece of sh*t. How many others have you victimized?" Qrow replied.
Again, Kurt tried to deny ever knowing Clover.
"Fine, play it that way. But if I hear anything about you doing something to someone, I will come after you! So, you better be on your best behavior." Qrow threatened.
He punches his face twice then knees him in the groin and lets him drop to the floor. Qrow leaves the restaurant and heads back home. When he gets there, he finds Ruby and Clover sitting on the couch, watching something on Ruby's laptop. Zwei sat happily in Clover's lap as him and Ruby watched YouTube videos of an Irish guy playing a very disturbing video game.
"Woah, this game is so messed up." said Clover.
"Yeah, it is, but that's what makes it cool. In my opinion, Fran Bow is one of the best games ever!" replied Ruby.
Qrow walks up to the couch and leans over the back of it.
"Hey, Clover, you doing okay?" Qrow asked.
"Yeah. Where were you?" Clover answered.
"I just...had some things I needed to do." Qrow said.
"Well, we gotta head back to the station." he added patting Clover's shoulder.
"Alright; bye Zwei, bye Ruby." Clover said standing up.
"Bye Clover, bye Uncle Qrow." Ruby said waving "goodbye".
On the drive back to the station, Clover noticed the bruises on Qrow's knuckles.
"Qrow...what did you do?" Clover asked him.
"What had to be done." replied Qrow.
This moment made Qrow and Clover's bond much stronger than it was before.
