Chapter 3
"This is incredible! Isn't it incredible?"
"Calm down, professor. We still don't know what they're capable of."
Professor Nick was currently having an urgent meeting with the President of the United States, and the latter was starting to feel frustrated.
"Don't you see, sir? If we can just experiment on them, they could become the heroes of mankind! Who knows how many disasters they can save us from?"
"I agree, professor. But they are still dangerous."
"They are dangerous, yes, but they are strong. And I can make them stronger. I just need the approval."
The president sighed. This has been going on for 2 hours now. He was already late for a meeting and didn't want to waste another second discussing this. But the professor wasn't leaving without an answer, and wouldn't put this off to another time.
"Tell me, professor. What do you see in them that convinced you? Have you seen them in action? And what if they turn against us?"
"Sir, if you want proof I can give you proof!" He was starting to feel angry himself. "We'll take the strongest one and test on him. We'll let them go through trials!"
"And what makes you think that they're willing to do this?"
There was a slight pause, before the professor grinned evilly. "Because if they don't, I'll make them."
The president stared at him and sighed. "Fine. We'll have it your way for now. Keep them locked up and away from the people. Anything goes wrong and its off."
"I assure you. Everything will go perfectly."
He got up from his chair and went towards the door. He stopped, hands on the doorknob. "One more thing, professor. Where do they come from?"
"A place where we all came from, sir." He looked up into his eyes.
"The Lost Planet."
. . .
"What do you mean, 'I transformed'?"
"I mean, 'you transformed!' You grew and your eyes changed!"
Baekhyun sat down on his bed, trying to take in what his friends were telling him. He had no recollection of 'transforming' whatsoever no matter how hard he racked his brains. Sure, he had had visions of growing bigger, but how can he be sure it was true?
"Let's just drop this for now," he said, giving up. "Tell me where we came from."
"The people here call it 'The Lost Planet'. Legend believes that's where all human beings were created. They say it was a peaceful place. Though, I can't see why the people here are so... different." Chanyeol said with a scoff.
"For some reason, the humans left, leaving just a few of us behind. We had somehow 'evolved' and had gotten supernatural abilities."
"Supernatural...abilities?"
He thought back to when he had broken the chair into pieces. Was that his supernatural ability? If so, does that mean how friends had one too?
As if reading his mind, his friends brought out their hands and turned to the backside of their palms. A bright blue glow emitted, revealing different types of symbols. Chanyeol's one was a firebird, which represented flames. Xiumin had a snowflake; Suho a drop of water; Lay a unicorn; and D.O. a piece of rock, each representing a different type of power.
Baekhyun stared in amazement. Each symbol brightly, and had a twist of its own. Slowly, they began to fade, before vanishing completely.
"Baekhyun," Chanyeol snapped him out of thought. They were all staring at him. "Try it."
He blinked once, before extending his arm and turning it over. Nothing happened. He frowned. Did he lose his power already? But then it started to glow, just like the others. He squinted at it. His symbol resembles a burst of light.
"Wow." He breathed.
"I still can't believe you don't remember this." D.O. said suddenly.
"Hey! I really don't!"
Bursts of laughter erupted as Baekhyun chased D.O. around the room. Suho yelled at them to stop before they knock something down and Xiumin laughing at him because no one seems to be listening.
Soon everyone had plopped down onto their beds, trying hopelessly to let Baekhyun remember their home planet.
"...and then our moms would come out to whack our heads and lecture us about going so far but then take pity on us and buy us treats." Chanyeol snorted with laughter. "Remember, Baekhyun?"
"For the tenth time, no!" Baekhyun didn't know whether to feel frustrated or laugh at what his friends said.
Everyone laughed at the memory and Baekhyun had to, too, even if he didn't remember. As they launched into another one of their childhood stories, Baekhyun lifted his arm to touch his necklace.
Why did his mom leave him? Is she still alive? What about his father? He really had no visions nor memory of him. For some reason, he felt numb.
"Baekhyun?"
He snapped or of his reverie and looked up. All eyes were on him.
"Sorry..." He rubbed the back of his head. "What were you guys saying?"
"Are you okay? You look...troubled." Suho stated.
"I'm fine. I was just...thinking..." He trailed off.
"You were thinking about your mom, weren't you?" Chanyeol said.
They all gasped, but Baekhyun just smiled sadly. "I guess so? I had a vision of her before waking up. She... left me."
The others looked uneasy about this topic. They couldn't say anything yet. He doesn't remember, yes, but does he want to?
"Baekhyun-ah, I think you should, er, let go of your necklace before it breaks."
"Oh, right."
He hadn't realised that he was holding on to his necklace tightly. Looking down at it, he loosened his grip. The scratch was still there, but it shone brightly and it reminded him of his mother's eyes.
I will always be with you.
