Chapter thirty-two
Red, blue, red, blue...
Andrea let out a groan and slowly opened her eyes. She looked around and saw the sky. She tried to move her arm but pain jotted through her body.
A person wearing all white then approached her. "Please don't move, it might cause further damage to your body." He said as she felt like she was being move.
"What happened?" Her croaked voice asked.
"Miss, please, just get some rest and we'll tell you all about it later."
"No, where's Ryder?" She questioned remembering that she was with him. She tried to recall what happened in her mind and slowly everything came back to her. Ditching class, going with Ryder, the deserted place, the two black cars following them, then crashed! "Where is Ryder?!" She asked more aggressively.
"Please, stop moving miss." The nurses said as they tried to calm her down but she was fighting back. Then one of the nurses injected her and everything became blurry and darkness consumed her once again.
~ * ~ * ~
Andrea heard whispering and quiet sobs near her. She tried to open her eyes but to no avail. It was as if someone was holding her eyes back. She couldn't open them an she felt like her eyelids weigh a ton.
"I can't lose my baby, James." She heard her mother cry an it tore Andrea's heart.
"I know, I know, but the doctor said she will be okay. And I do believe that our little girl is stronger than a steel." Her father said reassuring her. Andrea felt so heartbroken that she was causing emotional pain to her foster parents. Even though they weren't her real parents, they treated and cared for her more than any parents would do and she was very fortunate to have them in her life.
"I hope so." Her mother sobbed and Andrea couldn't stand the pain that was repeatedly shot through her chest when she heard her mother's cries.
She forcefully opened her eyes and brightness invaded her eyesight. She repeatedly blinked and her vision was back. She looked at her right and found her parents on the couch hugging and comforting each other. They haven't notice her yet so she let out a groan causing both of them to look at her.
"Oh, my little Andrea." Her mother cooed as she quickly came to her side and pulled her hand showering it with kisses. She felt so much loved.
"How you feeling, sweetheart?" Her father asked as he went to her other side and rubbed her forehead with his thumb in a comforting way.
"W-wa-water..." She tried to say but her voice was very hoarse and her throat was very dry.
Her mother quickly took the water bottle on the bedside table and slowly lifted Andrea so that the water won't spill. Once the water flowed through her throat, Andrea felt so much better.
"I'm okay, mom, dad. Do you know where Ryder is?" She asked curiously. Her parents looked at each other in concern then looked back at her.
"Sweetie, maybe you should rest. You do need it." Her mother tried stalling her.
"Mom..." She warned. "Where is Ryder? Is he okay? What happened to him?" She threw questions after questions. She was nervous and none of her parents want to tell her. James and Karen looked anxiously at each other and Karen scooted closer to Andrea.
"Listen honey, Ryder's in the other room, with his family." She said briefly with an unsure tone.
"What happened to him?" Andrea barely whispered with tears brimming in her eyes. She was closed to bursting into tears an she knew it. She was scared of what might have happened to him. She wouldn't know what she would do if something bad happened.
"He's okay, sweetheart." James interrupted.
"I wanna go see him." She persisted.
"Honey, you just woke up. I'm not letting you go." Her mother said and Andrea knew better than to argue back. Karen was a doctor anyway so he knew what was best for her.
"Promise me that if he comes and visit me, you wake me up. I really want to see him."
"Absolutely, sweetheart." James promised as Karen sent her a glare. There was definitely something off. Andrea could feel it and she knew her parents weren't telling her the full story.
"Mom, dad, what's really going on?" She asked with furrowed eyebrows.
Suddenly, there was a soft knock on the door. Karen permitted the person to come in and the door squeaked as it opened. There stood Rina and Steven with small smiles on their faces.
"Hey." Rina greeted softly.
"Come in." Andrea urged them as they entered the room. Karen and James left the room to give them time to chat. Rina and Steven stood on other sides of her.
"How you feeling?" Steven asked.
"I'm fine, just a little sore. How's Ryder?" Andrea suddenly questioned. If her parents wouldn't tell her, then she would ask her friends instead.
Steven and Rina looked worriedly at each other then back to her. She knew then that everyone was keeping the truth from her.
"He's... fine." Rina answered with an unsure tone. "Guess he just need to rest."
"Where is he?" She asked looking at the both of them suspiciously.
"At home."
"His apartment." They both said at the same time and looked nervously at each other. Andrea glared at both of them and pinched Steven on the arm.
"Ow!" He yelped and jumped in startle.
"I wanna know the whole story and the whole truth and I want to know it, NOW!" She said intensely causing both, Rina and Steven to widen their eyes in horror. They've never seen Andrea angry and right at the moment, she was quite terrifying and intimidating.
Steven glanced worriedly at Rina as she nodded her head and let out a sigh. "The truth is... Ryder's in a coma." She admitted as Andrea felt like the walls were closing in on her.
Ryder's in a coma...
Ryder's in a coma...
Ryder's in a coma...
The phrase kept repeating and repeating in her head and she knew that anytime she would burst out and turn crazy. She tried to hold back her tears that brimmed in her eyes, but failed miserably when the first tear dropped to her cheek. Then the next one came until she was fully crying her heart out.
Steven quickly sat beside her and pulled her to his chest. She rested her head on his chest and leaned on him for support. Steven tried his best to comfort her by rubbing circles along her back and her hair.
"Shhh, it's okay. He's going to be alright. Ryder's a tough guy, and you know how strong he his. I'm sure he'll be alright." He chanted some suiting words to calm her down. He glanced at Rina who was standing there motionless and he saw that tears started to form in her eyes as well.
'Nuts, two girls crying at once.' He thought. He was really bad at dealing with crying girls. He didn't know what to say or even what to do. He was always clueless when it came to girls. That was the reason why he, Ryder, and Scott became best friends. So he could learn from them on how to get and tame girls.
"Girls, please don't cry. I have no idea how to handle this. Oh god!" He admitted murmuring the last bit. Andrea and Rina seemed to hear his confession and let out small chuckles.
"Where is he?" Andrea finally asked after a dreadful long silence between the three of them.
"My father insisted of moving him to a private room. He's still unconscious and the doctor said he's in a critical condition." Rina explained as she sat on the opposite side of the bed.
"I know how much you care for my brother, Andrea. And I know that he cares for you too. Just hang in there, okay? I know my own brother than anyone else and I'm sure that he'll be fine. He'll come around for you." She said wrapping her arm around her and giving her a side hug.
Andrea didn't know what to say nor what to do. She was just.... numbed. No feelings at all. She didn't know what to feel. Whether she should be terrified, angry, upset! All she knew was that she wanted to see him. To see his big, grey eyes, his beautiful nose, his soft, pink lips. She just missed everything about him.
"I wanna go see him." She whispered with a hoarse voice. Rina and Steven stared at each other debating whether they should lead her to Ryder or not. Eventually, Steven nodded and Andrea readied herself to see him again.
