Chapter thirty-three

Andrea was braving herself to what she was about to see. She didn't know how bad he looked and she didn't want to see him in that condition. After her mom and dad argued with Steven and Rina about telling her the truth, they finally allowed her to go see him.

Rina opened the door at the end of the hallway as Steven pushed the wheelchair inside the room. Andrea was rather nervous than scared. Her palms were sweating and she felt claustrophobic all of a sudden.

"It's gonna be okay." Steven assured her then pushed the wheelchair further in the room.

Andrea almost let out a gasp when she saw the man on the bed with tubes attached to his body. She shed a tear and held her breath. He had a gauze wrapped around his head and a swollen cheek. A tube was attached to his mouth and an oxygen tank by his side. His heart beeped every three seconds. She let out a shaky breath and tears formed in her eyes.

"We'll be outside if you need us." Steven said softly, rubbing her head and left with Rina.

Andrea never left her eyes on Ryder. She watchfully stared at his face almost memorizing every features of it. She just wished he would open his eyes so she could get a glimpse of his mesmerizing grey eyes.

"Hey." She greeted and she thought she might have looked crazy talking to herself. But she had always seen in movies how it was fine talking to a person in a comatose state. In fact, they said that there was a high chance they might hear you so Andrea thought 'why not give it a shot?'

"I really wish you can hear me right now." She said rubbing his hand with her thumb. "I'm really sorry, Ry." She apologized as a tear escaped her eye. And she knew that she wouldn't be able to stop the water works once it started.

"This shouldn't have happen. You shouldn't be in coma. I should've never skipped school and I shouldn't have let you drag me. I'm really sorry, Ryder. Please wake up! Please don't leave me. Please don't go." She begged as tears continually flooded her cheeks.

"Remember that project we have to do for English. You still have to finish that. I need to know what you wrote about me. I'm very curious and I want you to know what I wrote about you as well. We still have lots of things to do and to talk about. Please wake up. Please do it for me." She pleaded as she kept rubbing his hand and placed her head on his chest.

"Hey Steve, I'll just go to the cafeteria to buy some food. Do you want to come?" Rina asked as Steven sat on the waiting chair outside Ryder's room.

"You go ahead, I'll stay behind in case Andrea needs me."

"Okay, well, do you want anything?"

"Just coffee and chicken sandwich will be good." He replied as Rina nodded in response and started making her way to the cafeteria.

Rina was completely astounded when she heard the news that her brother and Andrea got into a car accident. Just last night, she was talking to him about his love life and she didn't expect that the next day, everything turned into a disaster. Life truly brought untwisted and unimaginable things.

She took the elevator to get to the main floor where the cafeteria was. Once she got there, she went to the counter and ordered. "Can I have two coffee and two chicken sandwich, please?"

As soon as she payed for the food and drinks, she muttered a quick thank you and made her way to the table with cream and sugar on it. She added some cream and sugar to hers and a little bit of sugar and no cream to Steven's since he preferred black coffee.

She was stirring the coffee with a stirring rod when all of a sudden, her phone went off. She fished it from her pocket and answered it without looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?" She answered.

"How did you like my little gift for you, m'love?" The husky yet dangerous voice asked from the other line.

Rina's eyes widened in surprise and horror as she heard the voice that she never wanted to hear. Her heart started palpitating and she felt suffocated. It seemed like it was hard for her to breathe.

"Are you there, m'love?" The voice asked and Rina just wanted to scream and cry in anger, frustration and horror.

"Stop calling me!" She warned through gritted teeth. She was surprised he even heard it.

The man chuckled on the other line and Rina could imagine his evil smirk plastered on his face. "Why should I? You know how much I love you, my little Rina. I'm not giving up yet. In fact, I'm just getting started."

"Stop it!" She almost screamed as tears threatened to burst out of her eyes. "How could you do that to my brother?! You're a monster!" She yelled and she swore she heard a loud thud on the other line once she said that he was a monster.

"You turned me into a monster. It's your fault I'm the way I am right now! You're the only one to blame!" He accused and she ears him growled dangerously. She assumed that he must have punched the wall since he was getting angry at her.

"Andrew please! Please stop!" She begged as a tear escaped her eye and she quickly wiped it with the back of her hand. She didn't know what to feel. Her heart was aching knowing that her brother was in a comatose state because of her crazy ex-boyfriend.

"I'm not gonna stop now! Tell your brother he better watch his back. After what he did to me, what I'm going to do with him will seem nothing. I have to get back on him, and I have to get you back." He finally stated as he hanged up the phone.

Rina tried to control herself from breaking down but she knew she would no longer be able to hold it in. She was slowly hurting and she felt the tears flooding we cheeks one by one.

She tried to take deep breaths as she rested her body on the wall for support. Her knees were weak and they were becoming wobbly and soon she was sliding down on the floor and she was breaking down.

"Are you sure you're going to be okay?" Steven asked Andrea once more as he fixed her pillows behind her head.

"I'll be fine. Thanks for bringing me back, by the way." She said smiling.

"Not a problem. Just call me if you need anything. I'll visit again tomorrow after school."

"Okay." She nodded as Steven left the room and shut the door behind.

"Oh Steven, how's our little girl?" Karen asked with plastic bags on both her hands. He figured that it must have been food for Andrea. 'Speaking of food, where's Rina?' He thought.

"She's fine, Mr. And Mrs. Carson. She's a little upset because of Ryder's condition but I'm sure she'll be alright." He assured them and shot them a smile.

"Thanks for visiting our daughter, Steven. I'm sure she appreciate it and so do we." James said smiling back.

"No problem, Mr. Carson. I'll come back again tomorrow."

"Okay son, take care." He said as they entered the room and shut the door.

Steven's eyebrows quickly furrowed. 'Where must Rina be?' He thought as he let out a sigh and made his way to the cafeteria. She did say she was getting food.

Once he opened the door to the cafeteria, he quickly scanned the large room. There were a couple of people eating and most of them were employees like nurses and doctors. He scanned the room again trying to find for a certain blonde.

He thought that she might have left and came back to Ryder's room when his eyes caught a bright blonde hair at the corner of the room. The girl was sitting on them floor with her face buried in her hands and her legs tucked in between her elbows.

Steven slowly made his way to the girl doubting whether it was or weren't Rina. As he got closer, he got a better view of her face and he knew it was her. He rushed to her side and pulled her closed to him.

"Shhh, I'm here, Rina. Don't cry, I'm here." He whispered softly as she tucked her head in between his neck and his head and curled into a ball. Steven knew she was crying and he just wanted to make everything better.

The number one thing he hated the most was seeing the girl that he loved cries. It was heartbreaking and painful for him. He rubbed her back soothingly and kissed the top of her head severally until she calmed down. He did this a couple of times ending with success. He slowly lifted her head and kissed her temple.

"It'll be alright. I'm always going to be here for you." He whispered gently caressing her cheek.
