Chapter thirty-seven

After a few days, Ryder was finally released from the hospital. He was more than happy to get out of that place. Andrea kept her promise to visit him everyday and she did go after school with the gang. Except Steven. After that day, he never bothered to asked about Ryder. He would make up excuses on why he couldn't come visit after school and he would find a way to avoid Andrea in any possible way at school.

Ryder was currently sitting on the couch at his apartment. His mother refused to let him stay there at first because of his condition but caved in anyway when Rina promised to keep an eye on him. Ryder didn't like the idea of having a babysitter but he couldn't argue with his mother.

The doctor said that he wasn't allowed to go to school for the mean time, until his head becomes better. He would still get headaches here and there and it wouldn't be safe for him to be wandering around school and pass out.

"I cooked you lunch, it's in the microwave. If you need me, don't hesitate to call. I'm only gonna be gone for half an hour anyway so you should be fine." Rina said as she grabbed her car key on the key holder by the elevator.

"Where are you going again?" He asked as he turned the T.V. off.

"Grocery shopping. We're running out of food and mom said I need to buy you some healthy alternatives."

"You're not actually buying healthy foods, are you?" He asked with a disgusted expression on his face.

"Relax, mom won't find out anyway. Besides, I'm craving for some ice cream and cup cakes. You want anything?"

"Mmm, soda and chips would be fine."

"Got it. I'll be back in a few." She waved goodbye and entered the elevator.

Ryder was left staring at the blank screen of the television. He was really bored and he couldn't believe he would utter the next words that came out of his mouth. "I miss school." As realization downed on him, his eyebrows furrowed and he shook his head firmly. "What am I saying?" He said as he got interrupted by the buzzer.

He picked up the phone on the centre table and accepted the call from the lobby downstairs. "Everything all right, Damon?" He asked the receptionist at the lobby.

"Hey Ryder, you actually have a visitor. A guy named Pablo, said he's your coach." He informed him and Ryder was bewildered on why Pablo was visiting him.

"Uh, yeah, let him in." Ryder said as he hanged up the phone. He waited for a few minutes until the 'ding' sound of the elevator indicated that Pablo was there.

"Hey coach, have a seat." Ryder said as he waved at him and he made his way to sit on one of the love seat chairs.

"How are you, Ryder? I heard about the accident..." He asked.

"I'm all fine now, coach. Couldn't be better actually. So, what do you wanna talk about?" Ryder questioned him straight to the point. He knew that there must be something really important that Pablo came all the way to see to his penthouse just him when he could have just called him on the phone.

Pablo was silenced for a while. He was hesitating on telling Ryder of what his errand was actually about. He knew that once he breaks the news to him, he would be furious and devastated. "Look, Ryder..." He started and took a deep breath. "I don't think this accident was... an accident. I don't think you're safe right now and I'm not risking your life on this."

"What are talking about, coach?" Ryder asked in anticipation.

"Since this 'accident' happened and because of your condition, I'm calling it off." He announced as Ryder's eyes widened in horror. Ryder was beyond furious, he was raging. He couldn't believe the news that Pablo brought to him. It couldn't be, all his hard work throughout the year, gone and being thrown out of the window. He couldn't believe it!

"How could you say that?" He asked in a low murderous voice. "How could you tell me something so stupid and unbelievable?! After all the hard work I did, I worked myself years after years and now you tell me this! No, I'm not letting you call it off. I deserve to do this! I wanna do this!" He yelled in determination.

"Ryder, please -" Pablo started only to be interrupted by Ryder.

"I'm going to that championship race, coach. I don't care about what you think my condition is. I can do it and I'll prove it to you that I can win this thing!"

"Ryder, you're not making this any easier for me. You're not racing, okay? I'm putting Milan in and I've already decided. I pulled out your name and he's in." He announced causing Ryder's eyes to widen and his mouth agape.

"What?! Scott is replacing me?! Coach, I worked really hard and I'm not just throwing all my efforts away. I can race, I can win!"

"I'm sorry. But I made up my mind. Get well soon." Pablo finally said as he made his way to the elevator, leaving Ryder in rage.

"Hey, Andrea!" A high pitch voice greeted causing her to yelp in surprise. She held her hand on her heart and took her math textbook from her locker and shoved it in her bag. "I'm sorry, did I scare you?" Katie asked innocently.

"It's fine." She said politely as she shut her locker closed.

"So, the gang and I are actually going to Ryder's apartment today. You know, visit him and stuff. We were just wondering if you wanted to come?" Katie asked.

"Um, sure. I promised him I'll visit after school, anyway."

"Great! You can catch a ride with us then!" She happily piped in as she looped her arm around hers and dragged her to the parking lot.

Casper had a white Mercedes Benz while Liam had a red Lamborghini. 'Wealthy people!' Andrea thought. "You can ride with Liam and I." Katie announced as she nodded in agreement.

Casper and Lily went to Casper's car while the other three were in Liam's. Liam was in the lead followed by Casper then a black motorcycle driven by Scott.

"So, tell me Andrea. Is Ryder a good kisser?" Liam asked causing an awkward tension in the car. Katie smacked his head making the car swerved a little. "Ouch, I'm just asking!"

"Well stop asking stupid questions!" Katie retorted. "But on a total unrelated note..." She said looking back at Andrea on the back seat. "Rate it from 1-10 as 10 the highest." She grinned mischievously as Liam scoffed and laughed at the same time.

"I-um... I'm not quite sure how to answer that question..." Andrea answered truthfully as she nibbled her lips nervously.

"It's fine, don't sweat it. We're just messing with you." Katie assured her and she turned back her attention to the front. The whole ride they would make small talks here and there but nothing personal. Soon enough, the car entered the underground garage of Ryder's condo.

They jumped out of the car and made their way to the elevator to get to the penthouse. Andrea took a deep breath and waited patiently for the elevator to stop on the last floor.

When the elevator dinged, Ryder was kind of surprised. He knew Andrea promised him that she'll visit but he could hear loud voices. He was in the kitchen putting the groceries away when the voiced invaded his ears. He left the groceries on the counter as he made his way to the living room in curiosity.

As he swung the kitchen door open, he saw the whole gang hugging and greeting Rina. His eyes though stopped at a certain brown hair with beautiful grey eyes. As if she could feel his eyes on her, she glanced his way.

"Hey." She greeted as he came closer to her and pulled her into a hug. The whole gang awed at their cuteness.

"You two have seriously got to get a room." Liam commented making everyone snicker.

"Yeah, we can't handle it, too adorable." Katie teased pinching Ryder's cheek making him scowl. He slapped her hand away and shot her a death glare as she beamed at him innocently.

When everyone was settled down on the couches watching the re-run of The Big Bang Theory, Ryder decided it was time to have a talk with Scott, who was laying the love seat by himself.

"Scott, a word." Ryder silently told him as he made his way to the kitchen. Scott followed suit with furrowed eyebrows. The gang remained seated oblivious to what was going on except for Andrea who was watching the two with curiosity.
