Chapter forty-two

Ryder drove Andrea to school after she got herself ready. She refused at first but Ryder put up a fight saying that he didn't want anything to happen to her especially with Andrew roaming around. He was terrified that something might happen to Andrea and he couldn't possibly forgive himself if she got hurt.

"Are you sure you're gonna be alright?" Ryder asked her as he pulled up on the parking lot.

"I'll be okay, I promise. The doctor said you should be resting, stop stressing about me." Andrea reminded him.

"How could I not stress about you, Andrea, when I know you're in danger because of me?" He said running a hand through his hair in frustration. 

"Ry, please just go home and rest." She finally said as she was about to get out of the car but Ryder stopped her and pulled on her arm. He cupped her face in his hands and kissed her forehead. She placed her hands on top of his and rested their foreheads on each other's.

"Promise to call me after school so I can come and pick you up." 

"Ryder-" 

"Promise me, Andrea. For the sake of my sanity." He cut her off.

"Okay, I will." She promised as she gave his lips a peck. "I'll see you later." She said her farewell and made her way to class. She was by her locker gathering her belongings when Scott passed by.

"Scott!" She called out stopping him from his track. He looked over his shoulder to see Andrea securing her locker shut and made her way towards him.

"Not now Andrea." He said dismissing her and started walking away. But Andrea held onto his arm and pulled him back. The hallways were silence since everyone were already in class. Andrea came a bit later than usual because of what had happened in the morning. 

"Tell me the truth, Scott. Tell me what's really going on!" She demanded as he pulled his arm away from her hold.

"I have nothing to explain to you. Stop getting involve, Andrea!" He warned and Andrea laughed humorlessly from the same chosen words Scott and Ryder have told her. 

"I would, but I am already involve. I know you know something, Scott. I know you know what's really going on. Tell me, tell me all I need to know. Tell me who is trying to hurt Ryder. Tell me why I'm receiving a threatening note!" She commanded and Scott stared at her when she mentioned about the note. She shouldn't have said it from the first place, but she wanted to know so badly who is trying to harm her and Ryder. 

"A threatening note?" He asked in bewilderment. "When did you receive it?" 

"Just yesterday. Now, answer me. What's going on and who is behind all of this?" 

"Come with me!" He said dragging her away.

"You asked for me?" Jason entered Andrew's office as he spun from his chair to face him.

"Have a seat." Andrew commanded beckoning him to the seat in from of his mahogany desk. "We're starting our plan." He announced as soon as Jason sat from the chair.

"Already? But I thought you-"

"I've changed my mind. Call a meeting today at lunch. I want everybody to be there." Andrew cut him off as Jason just nodded in response and started making his way out. But before he could exit his office, Andrew spoke again. "Oh, and Alfonso, make sure that your people are better than the previous ones you last hired. I don't want anyone to ruin my plans." He said with mischievous eyes. 

"Yes boss." Jason obeyed.

"Wait, Steven, you're in this too?" Andrea questioned as soon as she and Scott entered an old classroom that Andrea never knew existed. Steven was sitting on one of the old stool with a laptop in front of him.

Steven glanced at her over his shoulder and sighed. "I'm still Ryder's friend, Andrea." He announced.

"We need all the help we can get." Scott added beckoning her to take the seat beside him. They formed a circle around a laboratory table and huddled up. Scott let out a sigh before he started. "I didn't want you to be a part of this, Andrea. But since you already are, I guess I have no choice but to be involve."

"What are you planning on doing?" She questioned him as she fiddled with her fingers.

"We need to settle some rules." He announced and Steven nodded in agreement. "First, you are not allowed to leave your house without anyone with you." He told Andrea.

"What? So you're taking away my freedom? I can handle myself, Scott." She bravely stated.

"Not with these kind of people. You don't know Jason, Andrea. His people can easily snap your neck and kill you. Or even worse, they can keep you and torture you to get under Ryder's skin." Once Scott's information clicked in her head, she thought that he was completely right. These people were up to get her because they know she was Ryder's weakness.

"Who is Jason?" She asked in curiosity.

"Jason Alfonso." Steven started turning the laptop around so that she could see the screen. "He is the king of racing. He has defeated practically everyone, all around the world."

"And what has he got do to with Ryder exactly?" She questioned with furrowed eyebrows as she stared at the picture of Jason Alfonso holding a trophy half the size of him on the laptop screen.

"They will be competing against each other for this year's championship." Steven announced.

"Competing? As in...?"

"Racing. They will be competing against each other for this year's racing championship." Steven answered as it all started sinking in Andrea's head. The reason why Ryder never wore his seat belt, the reason why he loved speed. It all made sense to her.

"He never told me." Andrea whispered in disappointment that Ryder didn't fully trust her to tell her about his hobby. She didn't like the idea that he raced, she thought it was dangerous and deadly.

"And if he told you, what would you do? Stop him from racing? Andrea, racing has been Ryder's comfort since he started. You can't possibly stop him. I tried, believe me, that's why it came to this. He just put your live in danger." Scott scowled.

That got Andrea thinking. If she knew about him racing, would she have stopped him? Would he have listened and obeyed her? Did she really know Ryder that well? Now that she was hearing about this, she couldn't help but think if she could really trust Ryder. Hiding such a big thing to her just made her doubt him even more. Why had he kept it a secret? Why didn't he trust her?

"So what's the plan?" Andrea finally asked as Steven and Scott looked at each other and nodded.
