chapter two
chapter two
wrong but so right
peter parker knew what he was doing was wrong. he knew that after everything that had happened only a few months ago, that he shouldn't be doing this.
peter parker gently pried open the window of happy hogans new apartment. this one had just enough security that peter could sneak in and sneak out with no problems.
he was looking for anything of his aunts that he could take. something that wasn't just his memory of her. he wanted something to hold — maybe the necklace he had given her for one of his birthdays, it wasn't to girly and had a picture of the two of them inside. or maybe he would hopefully find a picture album the two shared. it was full of pictures, right to the very last page. it had pictures of him and his parents when he was younger, of him and his uncle, him and his aunt.
peter just hoped happy hadn't found it and figured out who he was. he didn't wanna put more people at risk. not after what happened.
peter moved around the apartment slowly until he found the room where happy kept the spare things — where he kept mays things. there were a few boxes, some open and the others closed. not many were labeled, which made this task much harder then it needed to be.
dropping to his knees, peter begins to go through the box closest to him. inside is clothing. there were funky shirts with lots of colours. some pants and other things he didn't care too much for. but there was a shirt he wanted, one that he had gotten costume made for his aunt. "i larb you" was printed neatly on the shirt. the memory of all the times they went out for thai. it only brought tears to his eyes.
once he placed the shirt in his bag, he moved the next box closer. it wasn't labeled either. carefully opening it, peter peered into the box full of anything and everything. there were random articles of jewelry, books that may had boughten but never read ( like her many cook books. )
peter plucked the necklace he spotted, the one he had given may and tucked it into his bag.
gosh, he felt like a thief. he worked so hard to correct his wrongs. to become a hero and now here he was. digging through boxes and practically stealing things.
inside the box he was digging through was a much smaller box. one that could hold any keep sakes of mays. and that's what it was, a box filled with keep sakes. right to the top.
peter didn't bother opening the box. he just stuffed it into his bag before he got up of his knees. he heard the door open and that's when he started to panic. when everything really started to feel wrong.
peter panicked bad. his heart was beating rapidly against his ribcage and he could hear his heartbeat ringing in his ears. he was fucked. there was one window in the small storage room and peter took a chance. he zipped up his bag and climbed the wall until he could pry open the windows and crawl out of it. he was high up, without his spider-man suit and if anyone saw, it might not be good.
the spiderling crawled down the wall, always checking around him to see if anyone had saw. to his relief, no one did.
the second his feet hit the ground, peter started back towards his own apartment. it wasn't great. but it was his home now.
his hand held his keys and he placed his starwars house key he had gotten made into the key hole. he twisted and turned the key until the click happened. he pushed his door open and closed it just as fast.
his bag was placed onto his bed. he just looked at it. peter didn't make any move to unload it. to go through the stuff he had taken. his dark brown eyes were locked on his bag, they didn't move to look around like they always did when he entered his apartment.
it wasn't until he forced himself to look away so he could make something to eat, that way he wouldn't be focused on the memory's and things he would be uncovering.
when peter finished eating he moved to sit criss cross on his bed. he lifted the bag into his lap and took everything he had taken out.
the shirt.
the necklace.
the baseball hat from uncle ben.
the funky ring she wore most days.
the photo album he had found.
the black box labeled memories.
peter seemed to have a giddy smile on his lips as he placed the hat on his head and the ring on his pointer finger. he hung the necklace above his bed, just like someone would hang a dream catcher. the necklace was his dream catcher.
but when he placed the black box into his lap, any smile he had been wearing disappeared. the lid was lifted and peter lifted the first thing from the top. it was a photo of him and may, one he had taken after he came back from the blip. they both wore smiles and their eyes twinkled.
peter blinked away tears.
then he saw the envelope. may parker was a good student in both high school and nursing school. she had good, maybe even great grades. she had a great attendance. recommendations from all her teachers. she helped with after school activities and even ran a club.
may parker was truly an amazing woman.
peter ran his fingers along an envelope. he didn't open it yet. he just looked at it, memorized her writing. he missed it.
the letter was addressed to him.
he wasn't sure if he should read it. what if it said something he didn't like? not that it would. may parker loved her nephew with her whole existence.
underneath the letter, was a piece of paper with colours all over. there were hearts and stars, swirls and other kind of decorations. stickers and glitter pens.
it was a list. not any kind of list, but a lucky list his aunt hadn't completed.
peter felt as if it was his job to complete the list, now that it was one of the only things he had left of her.
he felt as if it was his mission to complete what she couldn't.
