Lucky - Megan Moroney

We came back to my apartment afterward so I could take a shower. I hope Colt showers, too, because I hate dirt in my bed. He did bring a bag of clothes with him, so he will at least change. I put on a pair of red-laced panties just to be prepared. I wanted to look cute for him. I put an oversized Auburn shirt and a pair of running shorts on top of them. I could have come out in lingerie, but I don't think I know him well enough. I didn't want to seem crazy.

I had removed my makeup and almost put mascara back on before I realized he'd still see me in the morning. After my shower, I walked back into my bedroom, and Colt was in my chair, reading a book. He puts it down and closes it when he sees me, "You girls read some interesting stuff."

I laugh and look at the book he was holding to see the name. Credence. "Well, you picked probably the worst book out of my selection. Very weird story." I blushed, thinking about the plot of that book.

He puts it back on the shelf where he found it, "It had a cool cover, but what the fuck is she doing with her uncle?"

"Yeah, that ran through my mind the whole book." I sit down on the bed and turn the TV on. I wonder if he liked football. He probably was the type who didn't even own a television. He did say he spent all of his time outdoors. It was almost seven, so it was still pretty light outside. It wasn't even time to go to bed.

"Do you care if I take a shower?" I know you don't want me smelling like horse shit in your bed."

I nod, "That's fine if you don't mind smelling like a girl. The towels are in the closet in there."

He rolls his eyes, "I hope it at least smells good." He walks over to me and bends down to kiss me before he leaves. "I hope your roommates don't walk in on me taking a shower."

"Yeah, maybe I'll tell them you're staying over."

"I'm sure they are dying to hear that." They probably are. They have done nothing but constantly say, "You need him in your bed," for the past two days. Brooke even texted me and asked if we fucked in his horse trailer yet. Willow probably was out with Jayden. She spent a lot of time at his place, which made me sad since she was my little, but whatever. If Julia were here, she'd be on the couch watching TV.

He walks to the bathroom, and I wait to hear the shower running before I run to Brooke's room to gossip about him. I knocked on the door twice before I opened it, and she sat at her desk, finishing her homework. She looked up, "Hey, Char."

"He's spending the night." I whisper-shout since he was in the room next door to us.

She stands from her desk and walks over to me, "Shut up! So, like, he likes you or what?"

I nod and bite my lip, "I think so. I mean, he took me horseback riding for our first date." I wonder if he did like me. People don't typically take someone on a date just so they can fuck them at the end of the night, right? Technically, this is our second date, so that I wouldn't feel that bad about myself.

"Charlie, I'm so happy for you. He seems like a good guy." He was a good guy, it seemed. He seemed to light up a room when he walked in. He had nothing to be mad about, at least in my presence.

"I met one of his cute friends earlier. His name was Beau." Beau had been just as attractive as Colt, except he had a darker hair color under his cowboy hat.

She raises her eyebrows, "Well, I'd like to hear more about his cowboy friend then."

"Later. I should go. Men don't take long showers." I smile and return to my room, claiming my spot on my bed. I always slept on the side furthest from the door. I'd like to think that side was quieter.

I grab my Macbook and check to see if I have any last-minute assignments, but somehow, I end up on social media. The first thing I saw was a post from my sorority, and it was Colt and I at the rodeo. He held me close as I showed off my Rodeo Queen sash, both of us smiling huge. The caption said how he had picked me and how vital the rodeo was to our organization. There were hundreds of comments about us, mainly about his attractiveness.

Colt walks in with, unfortunately, a shirt on. I wanted him to come in here half-naked. "You got homework?" He asks and flops on my bed.

"No, I'm looking at a picture of us at the rodeo. We are breaking the internet."

I turn the laptop to face him, he takes it and looks at it closer, "Damn, I look sexy."

"They are saying we complement each other very well."

He looks up at me, "I think we do too. We are very alike." He scoots closer to me. I close my laptop and set it on my nightstand, and he grabs my face and turns it to the side, "I didn't know you had a tattoo."

I had a four-leaf clover outline tattooed behind my ear. I got it when I turned eighteen with my friends. It was small but meaningful to me. "It's my lucky charm. I can look in a patch and find them everywhere. I like to think I'm lucky sometimes."

"You wanna see something cool?" He asks, and I nod. He raises his sleeve and flips his arm over, and on his bicep is a casino seven. "This is my lucky charm." I reach out and trace the seven.

"Hm, I guess we are pretty alike." I'm surprised those words came out because, inside, I was freaking out at the fact that we both had a lucky tattoo. I am always asking for signs I have met my soulmate, and I want to say I think I just met him.

He moves my hair out of my face and pushes it behind my ear before slowly kissing me. "I can't believe you're just realizing this," he mumbles against my lips.
