17 // Fight Fire With Fire

Actually got around to drawing Akamine, so if you haven't see that it's in chapter 3 where her hero costume's described.
Also fuck why are people actually reading this ahhhh thank you all so much for the attention!

"You all did great!" I yell as I burst onto the scene. My class are sat on a big table in the dining hall and most of them have finished eating and the lunch breaks about to be over.

"Yeah!" Mina says. "I can't believe I've gotten this far. Anyway, where've you been?" Oh yanno, just eavesdropping on my classmates after getting lost and then pacing up and down a corridor because I desperately want to help but I also can't help because I'm not meant to know. Even if I was meant to know, I'm not sure what I would do.

"Oh I just got caught up in something. Anyway, how was it for all of you?" I swiftly change the topic of conversation and listen to the responses I got from most of the class. Ironically, the leaders of the teams that got through are incredibly quiet. Bakugou, Todoroki and Midoriya don't respond to me at all.

The class makes their way to the stadium to watch the recreational competition and I get myself lunch. I finish just as the competition does and we wait for the main event.

I sit down in the class seating area, ready to be joined later and I watch in confusion as all of the girls are wearing cheerleading uniforms and I'm honestly not sure how that happened.

The final event of a head to head tournament is announced and mutters break out throughout the crowd. The first big thing to happen is that Ojiro drops out of the competition leaving us all stunned. Followed by Shoda from class 1B, who are both quickly replaced by Tetsutetsu and Shiozaki.

The lineups are announced and I look to see who my friends, well my friend, and classmates are up against. Midoriya's against Shinsou, who I realise is that purple haired dude that threatened the class not that long ago. Bakugous's up against Uraraka. Christ. It's Mina vs Aoyama. Not too bad. Tokoyami vs Yaoyorozu. Iida vs Hatsume. That must be Gadgets. Kaminari vs Shiozaki. Kirishima vs Tetsutetsu. Todoroki vs Sero. Poor Sero.

I'm probably going to miss some of these fights because I'm going to try and help people who've just fought.

The weird games continue and a lot of the class vanish in prepartion for the main event. The time flew by and it was Midoriya vs Shinsou before I knew it. They seem to be talking and then suddenly Midoriya is just walking towards the edge of the ring. I hear Ojiro curse. It must be that other guy's quirk. Then when he's at the very edge he just snaps out of it. What? What just happened? After a short shove and push match, Midoriya wins.

I go off to go find Midoriya to congratulate him on his win and I'm stopped in my tracks when I hear a voice around the corner from me.

"You disgrace me, Shoto." Endeavor. That ass. "You could've crushed both the obstacle course and the cavalry battle if you'd used your left side. Grow up and stop rebelling like some petulant child. Remember your duty to surpass me. Understand? You're different to your brothers. You're my greatest creation."

I don't even catch what Todoroki says in response because I'm too busy planning out what I'm going to do. I keep making up scenarios in my head about how I'm going to stand up to Endeavor and swoop in and save the day. But it never comes because 1. I'm a complete pussy and 2. I come face to face with Todoroki.

He seems stunned to see me standing there and all I can do is gingerly smile at him. No words are shared between us as he brushes past me but I wish I could've said something. I suddenly remember it's his fight next.

"Good luck!" I yell down the corridor. "I'm sure you'll do great! Just remember that it's not up to him!" He haults and stands still for a second before muttering a quiet 'thanks' and continuing.

I bump into Midoriya on the way to see him and we walk back to the stadium together. I ask him about that book he's always writing in and he says he doesn't want to bore me. When I tell him I'm genuinely interested, his face lights up and he proceeds to tell me all sorts of stuff about heros and quirks. He's certainly dedicated, that's for sure.

As I walk up the stairs to the stadium, I witness a huge ice blast from Todoroki, going completely overboard and completely immobilising Sero. That poor boy.

The next couple of fights are interesting but nothing special, Kaminari gets distracted by a pretty girl and Iida's fight became an advertisement pretty quickly. Mina vs Aoyama was also interesting and I was so proud of my girl for winning. Tokoyami easily takes out Yaoyorozu, he doesn't even give her a chance to use her objects. Kirishima and Tetsustetsu draw because they're basically the same and it has to be settled by an arm wrestling match later on.

Uraraka seems really nervous and I want to go follow her to the prep room, but Midoriya follows her so I choose not to. The fight with Bakugou is brutal. She doesn't give up and neither does he. He keeps throwing her back and she keeps charging. It was all a tatic for Uraraka to use one big attack and send rocks toward Bakugou, but he took them out in one swift move.

Worry washes over me as I watch Uraraka pass out from exhaustion. Once again, I wanted to check on her, but Midoriya beat me to it, so I thought it was best to leave her be. In the mean time we watched Kirishima and Tetsutetsu arm wrestle and Kirishima won. I'm proud.

It took me a second to process that it was Todoroki vs Midoriya next. Not only did Todoroki have a declaration of war, he has his pact to himself. Whilst I understand why he has that, it's unfair on himself. He would be so much stronger with it. He's basically cutting off a part of himself to cut of his dad, which isn't right.

Uraraka joins us again and sits next to me just as the fight begins. Todoroki instantly sends out shards of ice, forcing Midoriya to dodge. Midoriya uses his quirk to break the ice, but hurts himself in the progress. This keeps going on and Midoriya keeps breaking more and more fingers.

"You and Todoroki can just use as many of those super strong shots as you want." Kirishima says, having joined us and I've just snapped into the conversation.

"Don't be an idiot. We get strained and hurt from overusing it. Quirks are still physical abilities, you can overdo it." Bakugou swiftly shuts down Kirishima and I find myself agreeing with him for once. Another loud explosion brings me back into the action. Midoriya's running out of fingers and Todoroki is getting tired.

They're talking and yelling at eachother but I can't quite make out what they're saying, though I can still tell emotions are running high. Suddenly Midoriya lands a direct hit on Todoroki, knocking him backwards before using one of his already broken fingers for an attack. That's got to hurt.

I find myself getting distracted from to fight to look at Endeavor. He isn't just watching his son, he's observing him. You can tell from his composure and the judgemental vibes.

"It's your quirk!" Midoriya's voice rings loud and clear, he must really be screaming. "Not his! Yours!"

I watch in awe as Todoroki's left side bursts into flames, flickering and dancing around him. Woah. Now I've always had a thing for fire quirks, like I've always loved them, but this is something else.

"Shoto!" Endeavor yells, as he marches his way down the steps, chanting all kind of bullshit about Todoroki finally accepting his quirk. Sudden rage surges through me and I bolt down the stairs after him.

"Hara!" Mina cries after me. I don't know why I'm going to do what I'm about to do. Maybe it's because I understand how it feels to be hurt by a family member? Or maybe it's because his quirk is so insanely strong and cutting a part off for his dad isn't fair and I have to shut him down? Either way, this could end badly.

I sprint to the railing looking over the grounds where Endeavor's shouting at him. I watch his fist clench and I can tell he's annoyed even from here.

"Just ignore him!" I yell as loud as I physically can. Todoroki is clearly shocked and turns to fully face me. I can see the surprise across his face and I find myself struggling to find words to continue. "You're doing great! Don't listen to him! You're your own person. It's your power!"

I end up basically rephrasing what Midoriya said, but unlike Midoriya I can give him a big smile and a thumbs up.

"How dare you talk to my son about me in that way." Endeavor growls next to my. Oh shit. I've fucked up.

"Well uh, you see, he really uh, I think that is was uh necessary?" In a mumble of words, my confidence slowly fades into me questioning myself. Endeavor looks shocked and bitter, but before he can say anything, he's cut off by a massive explosion.

I wasn't prepared for the impact, so I'm knocked backwards.

I stumble to my feet and hold my head in my hands as the sudden explosion caused my quirk to panic and give me a headache. I hold the railing and I see that Midoriya has be thrown out of the ring.

With a ripped shirt and a shocked and almost numb expression, Todoroki stands in the ring alone. Alone and victorious.
