I Was There, I Remember It All Too Well
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Author's POV
"You're lying Jungkook." He claimed coldly, looking at his wife and his son froze hearing his statement.
That face…
Oh, it's too familiar for him. And the fact that Jungkook's face looks exactly like his mother's, only makes it more difficult for Mr. Jeon to actually forget where and why he saw that face once. If words could describe what he feels that night, surely there would be millions of heartbreak phrases but there aren't any. The only word that he could think of is pain.
"W-what are you saying, father?" Jungkook asked him, catching the old man's attention as he glanced at his own son before looking at the one who kneels in front of the boy, his wife who also looked at him confusedly by his statement. "I said you're lying. You don't lose your feelings for Aíden, you never did because you never even loved him in the first place. Tell me...is there a third person?" He asked as Jungkook's mouth gaped open before closing it instantly after, startled by the sudden question.
Jungkook gritted his teeth in nervousness as he looked down at the floor, thinking of many ways to jump off from this question. No, he doesn't want to tell them that there is a third person because he knows they will be extremely disappointed but he also didn't want to lie to their face about the question. His parents raised him to be a gentleman successful man, not to be a liar asshole.
With that, Jungkook took a deep breath as he buried his face inside his palm; mentally ready to tell the truth with also explanation as an excuse.
"Father—"
"It's either yes or no, Jungkook. That's all I wanted to hear… Nothing else matters." Mr. Jeon cut him off coldly, patiently waiting for his son's reply even though he already knew the answer all along. Besides, the loud silence says it all. He just wanted to test his child, he wanted to see whether Jungkook could or couldn't be honest and admit his mistake.
"I…" Jungkook trailed off, hesitating.
"Yes." He half-heartedly replied, looking down on the floor knowing if he looked at his parents now, he would see nothing but a disappointment clearly displayed across their face. And as their only son, Jungkook didn't want to see that sight at all. The mere thought of his parents looking at him with dismay unexpectedly made his hazel eyes drown in tears as his clear sight slowly got blurred.
"And did you or didn't you have sex with them?" The old man asked once again, trying so hard to control his tears that began to crawl up to his already blurred sight as he kept his gaze at his son, silently praying that the answer would be no and at the same time; trying so hard to not look at his wife. It hurts … It was as if he stood again in the same place. The begging, the cries, the apologies, it's still fresh in his memories and even though it was already over, somehow it just got him.
"Answer me!!" He raised his voice slightly, getting a little bit into the situation as he felt his atmosphere around change just back then, but the only difference is that the one who keeps silent is not Jungkook, instead, his own wife. At times like this, he didn't want to hear the boy's explanation, he just wanted to know yes or no. As a father who watched his son grow, he taught Jungkook enough about loyalty and he made sure to be very strict with it.
He doesn't want history to repeat itself…
"I… Yes, I did." Jungkook confessed, earning a surprised gasp from his mother who he felt immediately back away from him which made him turn his gaze away from the marble floor to his mom who gave him an unhappy look in him. The look… was enough to make Jungkook's hazel eyes drown in tears as he panicky glanced at his father, watching the old man stand instantly before making his way towards him who opened his mouth to explain the whole thing but that never happened after.
All he could hear was the loud hit sound filling the living room as his left cheek stings badly before slowly turning red.
Jungkook cupped his left cheek and caressed the area, feeling the hot skin as he blinked his eyes a few times; finally realized what happened which made his eyes gaze over his father who stood in front of him with a very, very disappointed face; enough to break his heart into pieces. He never thought… that one day, he would get to see that face. That one day, he will get a lap from the person he respects the most. But did he feel angry for getting slapped? No. He knows well that he deserves it. Aíden didn't give one so maybe his father was the replacement.
Surely, the sex part was something Jungkook regretted doing now. But hey, he didn't regret meeting Jimin again. There's a big difference between the two.
"You disappointed me, Jungkook." Mr. Jeon spat, sad clear as the sky in his voice as he turned around before walking away, leaving them without any further words as Jungkook stayed still at his place, trying to process everything that happened. He glanced at his mother who only looked down and he couldn't really tell but she seemed embarrassed at herself? Jungkook couldn't point out what possibly happened but surely there are more.
The longer he stares at his mother, the more he notices everything. It's never about him in the first place, isn't it? Was all of this anything related to his mother? Is that why his father was extremely strict about it? He has an opinion about what was all of this about but the only way for him to be convinced is by confronting the husband.
With many thoughts running wild in his head, he stood up, following his father as he walked upstairs and reached the master bedroom's door which left a little bit of space, enough for him to peek inside. He gazed at the whole room area only to find his father was nowhere to be seen inside but standing at the balcony, looking upwards; probably watching the stars and the moon that were decorating that night beautifully, his back facing Jungkook.
He sighed deferentially at the sight as he walked closer to his father without any sort of sound, not wanting the old man to be aware of his presence. Knowing how mad his father is with him, he probably didn't even want to see Jungkook's face that time. But all the plans were ruined in a second when the old man chuckled deeply before smiling at the moon, catching Jungkook's attention as he looked at his father and noticed the tears that shine against the moonlight.
"It hurts, Jungkook… I never thought one day I'll be in this situation again. I taught you a lot about loyalty and I thought I raised a gentleman by that, but I guess not." He spoke softly, showing how much he was sad for the news as Jungkook couldn't help but look down and feel embarrassed but then something caught his attention; his father's word. Again...? What's that supposed to mean? He doesn't have any siblings?
"A-again?" Jungkook pointed out stuttery, watching his father sigh in tiredness before giving him a nod.
"Again. I experienced this once, Jungkook. The only difference is that I'm not in your place but Aíden's place." He explained, making Jungkook's eyes turn wide, understanding the point of the story. Of course, his mother is the one who cheated, not his father. No wonder the old man was very strict with this. "It hurts. Even though it has already passed and your mother already repented, I was there, I remember it all too well. The cries, the begging, the regretful facial expression… All of them." Mr. Jeon continued as Jungkook could only look at his father with sadness, he never thought this would happen.
He never thought under the strict mask, there's a broken face.
"The one you cheated with, are they worth it? Tell me. Do you think you will settle down with them? Or will it end like Aíden too?" He asked, making Jungkook swallow his saliva nervously, thinking hard on the question because he didn't know what to answer. He can't just say he will settle with Jimin because that's a thing he couldn't be sure of, moreover when the male could easily throw him off like nothing. But he can assure Jimin would not end like Aíden, he would never cheat on Jimin. He would never have the audacity.
Right…?
"I…" Jungkook trailed off, still hesitating to answer. "He will not end up like Aíden." He finally said, convinced with the reply as he watched his father turn around, a proud smile plastered across the old man's face as he opened his arms wide for his son to get in which Jungkook didn't waste any time than to do it; crushing his father into a hug as his nose immediately greeted by the familiar wood scent of the old man.
"Promise me, Jungkook. You won't do this again. If you don't love them then walk away, don't cheat on them. They have hearts too, don't break them. Promise me." The old man begged, not knowing this made Jungkook was at the edge of crying. He never heard his father sound this pity and when he got to hear this, he couldn't help but feel sad knowing it all started from him. Maybe he should have broken it off with Aíden in the first place.
"I promised, father." He swore.
"Good." The old man spat and broke the hug as he cupped Jungkook's left cheek where he slapped earlier, seeing the skin still hot and red with clearly his palm imprinted on it. Guilt spread across his face when he recalled how hard he hit his son as Jungkook noticed this and quickly held his hand, tightening the hold a little; silently assuring his father that's okay. But of course, Mr. Jeon isn't having it. He never ever slaps his son.
"Doesn't it still hurt? I'm sorry—"
"Umm no. Don't apologize. I know I deserve it." Jungkook cut him off with a soft like a bunny smile, making him smile proudly looking at his son. "Father…" Jungkook called him off, breaking his thoughts as he caressed the cheek's skin of his son while he hummed in reply, patiently waiting for whatsoever that the other wanted to say.
"Do you mind if I ask something?" The other questioned.
"No, what do you want to ask?" Mr. Jeon replied and moved his hand from Jungkook's cheek before looking upwards again, staring at the bright stars, leading for the other to do the same; following his father like an obedient son just like the old-time when Jungkook was still a little.
"Mom cheated. So why are you here? How could you still love her?" Jungkoom asked while his eyes maintained on the stars, loving how they were beautifully illuminated in the dark night. Jimin is just like those stars in his life, without them the night would be boring and empty with no lights here and there. He needs the older in his life just like how the night needs stars and moon.
Jungkook was too lost in his thoughts, he failed to notice the sad facial expressions of his father as the old man glanced at his son and chuckled bitterly, catching the other attention who immediately looked at him. "As everyone said, love is blind my boy… No matter what she did in the past, I would always love her. Besides, she already apologizes. She was drunk that time." He said with a smile on his face, making him more handsome than he already was as Jungkook noticed it and smiled before glancing back at the dark sky.
He's truly like his father…Blind for Jimin. No matter how the older one breaks him, he will always come back and love Jimin again.
"Just like me and Jimin." Jungkook softly mumbled, unnoticed the confused stare he got from his father as the old man gazed at his son and watched the pair of doe's eyes shine lovely like a galaxy, showing how much he feels for the male he mentioned earlier. No words needed, you could feel it through Jungkook's eyes after all. It implies nothing yet everything.
"Jimin? That is your lover's name?" He asked and watched Jungkook look at him with the brightest smile he has ever seen from the boy.
"Yeah, it is."
