'Luke Valentine'

Adelaide's thumb hovered over his contact. It's been a few days since she met him at the amusement park and she still hasn't texted or called him. The times that she was supposed too, she backed out before she pressed send as Adelaide didn't know what to say.

Now, she sits in the empty dining table, one hand tracing the intricate designs of the wooden table, the other holding onto her phone with Luke's contact.

Adelaide wonders what would happen if she just gave Luke a call, she wonders how it would go. Would she just say hello and he would start the conversation or would she start it?

Taking a deep breath, she locked her white iphone and placed it on the side, both her arms on the table, as she tried to lay her head down. However, before her head touched the table, Ivory's voice was heard.

"Ms. Callahan, I'm going out to buy some groceries as the Chef is lacking in supplies," she informed her while trying to tie her raven colored hair.

"Can I go with you?" she asked. Adelaide needed the fresh air and she hated being stuck in this big house alone. Both her parents were in a business meeting somewhere and truthfully, she didn't have much friends that can come over.

Ivory stared at the young mistress for a split second before nodding, "We'd have to get through your guards but I doubt that would be a hassle. Are you going to change, Ms?"

Looking down at her clothes, she inspected what she was wearing and saw a plain white t-shirt tucked in a black skirt, which she thought seemed fit enough to wear to grocery shopping. With that, Adelaide shook her head. "I think I'll just go get a jacket."

She rushed upstairs to her room, opening her walk in closet and finding one of the very few jackets she owns as her mother didn't like any clothing item that wasn't either designer or was for the middle class.

Going back down, she saw Ivory's fingers tapping across the phone screen as she sent a text.

"Let's go?" Adelaide asked Ivory as she tugged on the jacket. The maid nodded her head and the two of them made their way outside the house.

Ivory stopped in her tracks and faced Adelaide.

"I was just going to take a walk down the market since it's just a few blocks from here but if you want, we can ask your driver to take us?" Ivory said. Shaking her head, she smiled at her maid.

"I don't mind walking, it's like a breather for me."

With Ivory leading the way, the two girls started walking. Adelaide thought they'd be stop by one of the few guards stationed by the gate and he'd inform her parents of her leaving the house but somehow Ivory managed to sweet talk the poor lad into not telling anyone.

Adelaide was astonished when she did that, a little disappointed too. Her guards were easy to manipulate when they were supposed to be best. Another thing that made Adelaide look at her maid in a new light. She doesn't know how to flirt yet Ivory was able to charm her way to the guards so well that she could have any boy falling at her feet and it made her wonder if she knew how to flirt, would Luke fall at her feet?

Her train of thought was interrupted when she heard Ivory chuckling.

"Why are you laughing?" Adelaide asked.

Ivory shrugged her shoulders, "You seemed so lost in thought, it's a bit amusing, Ms."

"That's your fault Ivory, you flirted with those guards back there like it was easy as counting sheep," Adelaide confessed, scowling as she said how it seemed so easy for her to do it.

"They're new and young, younger than me even," she said and took a turn towards the city market. "It's easy for a girl like me, Ms. Callahan. When you're not rich, sometimes you need to learn the art of manipulation to get what you want."

Adelaide didn't respond to that, she didn't know how to respond to that. She was aware that the staff her parent's hire were not rich and most of the time they were lower than middle class, so she couldn't tell Ivory how manipulation is common when you're rich but she was afraid Ivory would take insult in this, in her telling her how the rich life goes.

"We're almost there, do you want to stop by that cafe to go get a drink?" Ivory told her, pointing at the cafe named 'The Chipped Cup'. Adelaide nodded, her throat a little dry from walking and she could feel tiny bits of sweat on her forehead that were starting to fall.

They went inside, the aroma of coffee hitting them both at the first step they took inside. Adelaide breathed it in, it smelled amazing.

"I'll get us a drink, what do want?" Ivory asked, eyeing the menu on top of the counter.

"Just brewed coffee, here-" She got her wallet from the pocket of her jacket and handed Ivory a dollar bill, "Is 10$ enough?"

Nodding, she took the bill and pointed to a secluded table at the back of the cafe. "Why don't you sit there while I order?"

Adelaide followed and made her way to the table but stopped short when she saw the person on the table before the one she was supposed to go too.

"Luke?"

A dimpled grin made it's way to his face as he turned to the side to look at the person who called out his name.

"Sweet, It's nice to see you," he said, standing up so he could face Adelaide properly. Adelaide swore her heart started pounding faster than normal as she looked at him and that damn dimpled grin, she wanted nothing more than to poke that dimple, as silly at that sounds.

"Same, uh-" she struggled to form a sentence, she didn't know what to say.

"Would you like to sit down?" He offered. Adelaide nodded and sat across from him, his blue eyes staring at her.

A few moments of silenced passed through them, although it wasn't awkward, Adelaide felt like she needed to say something to break the silence but she didn't know what to say so when Luke broke it for them both, she let out a sigh of relief.

"Why are you so silent?" he asked.

"Is it bad to be silent?"

"But I want to get to know you, sweet." Luke smiled up to her, running his hand through his hair as he said those words.

"Fine, how old are you?"

"How old do you think I am?" he replied. Adelaide looked him over, he looked young with the dimple on his cheek but then again he could be in his early twenties.

"Nineteen?"

He shook his head. "No, I'm twenty."

"Oh," she murmured, it wasn't really a bother, he was older than her by two years. She's been on dates with men five years older than her just because her mother wanted her to kiss up to them.

"And you, sweet, are eighteen, am I correct?" he asked, she nodded. He noticed her posture was like one of a ballerina's, her back was straight and her legs were not crossed but it seemed like they were tilted to the side.

"Are you a ballerina?"

"I took a few lessons for a year, I had to stop since my father thought it was a waste of time." Her father, like her mother, wanted her to be the best, she was after all the only child they had. He thought that she was slacking in ballet and pulled her out before she became the worst in the class.

With that memory, Adelaide sighed but before she could dwell on it further, she felt her phone vibrate on her pocket. It was Ivory telling her she went ahead and sat down somewhere else when she saw Adelaide talking to a hot boy. A winky face was added after the text. Adelaide rolled her eyes and focused her attention back to Luke.

"Boyfriend?" He suggested. Adelaide gave him a confused stare, not knowing if she wanted to laugh at how he doesn't notice how attracted she is to him or he was just trying to make conversation.

"If I said yes, what would you think?" she replied.

Luke placed one hand on his chin, pretend to think before he looked at her with a serious expression on his face. "I'd be very disappointed, Adelaide. Then I'd think of ways to steal his girl."

"Stealing his bad," she said.

"Not when the prize is worth something as beautiful as you."

Adelaide could feel the heat on her cheeks after he said that, she looked down at the table, not meeting his eyes.

"You're so cute when you blush," he told her, reaching out so that he could tip her chin up to meet his eyes.

"I don't like compliments."

"You should get used to it, especially if you'd be around me more."

Adelaide shook her head. "Less about me, I want to know more about you."

Luke shrugged, his shoulders slumping as he leaned back in his chair. He took a sip from his now cold drink and bit his lip. "What do you want to know about me?"

"Anything you're willing to share," she said.

"That's pretty hard, sweet. Why don't you go ahead and ask me questions to make it easier," Luke suggested.

"um, what's your full name?" she asked.

"Luke Alexander Valentine."

"Alexander?"

"It was my grandfather's first name," he told her, nodding Adelaide continued.

"If you could do anything in the world what would it be?"

With a cheeky smile on his face, he said, "Spend time with you."

"Stop," she muttered softly, her face should be red as a tomato right now.

"You're not asking the right questions, sweet," he told her, his hand reaching out to hers as he traced invisible patterns on the back of her hand. Her gaze followed the swirls and circles he made with his finger.

"W-what questions do I ask then?"

A ghost of smile appeared on his face as he looked at her. "That's completely up to you."

"I-uh-" Her gaze shifted from the back of her hand to his face, "Where did you get that scar?"

"Now, those questions have more meaning," he stopped making patterns and flipped her hand over, tracing the lines on her palm. "When I was younger, I was naive ... I was weak and being those two things can hurt a person."

Curiously, she asked, "What do you mean?"

"It means, don't always believe the people that tell you they love you, sweet."

He continued to trace the lines on her palm as Adelaide looked at his scar, it was from the end of his left eyebrow down to where his cheekbones were. It formed almost like a C.

"Did it hurt?" she whispered.

"The reason for why I had this hurts more than the actual pain it caused when it touched my skin." Luke's eyes hardened as he tried to look anywhere but Adelaide. Seeing the change of his mood, Adelaide tried to think of something to ask or to say to brighten the topic.

"What's your favorite color?" she asked.

"Black," he replied, his voice distant and Adelaide knew she made a mistake asking about his scar.

She felt her phone vibrate. Reading it, it said that they needed to go now before the sun sets as they were heading to the market first. Sighing, she looked up at him, "I need to go."

"Do you really want to?"

She stood up from her seat. "Considering the circumstance, I doubt you want to stay with me any longer." Shrugging her shoulders, she tried to stand up but ended up failing as her legs started to feel numb.

He was swift, watching her closely, noticing when her legs started to wobble and give out. Just before her body hit the tiled floor, he was able to catch her.

"Don't fall for me yet." He chuckled.

Adelaide ignored his comment and tried to remove his hands from her waist. "I can do it but thank you."

At her request, he had let go of her. She had ended up on the ground, butt first.

"Ow!"

"You told me to let go!" Adelaide took in a deep breath, thinking that at least his tone wasn't icy from awhile ago.

He offered her his hand and she did, scowling as she brushed her skirt. She saw Ivory look at her, amusement playing on her face as she watched Adelaide and Luke interact.

Taking a deep breath, she said, "I'm going to the market, do you want to go with me?"

Luke shook his head. "I have-" he paused, it seemed like he was thinking of the right word. "errands to run after this, and you, my sweet had already taken so much of my time."

Adelaide nodded, a bit disappointed but at least she got to know him more. Luke started walking away from her when she caught his wrist, making him look back at her.

"Can you answer just one more question?" she asked, the question ran through her mind time and time again and when he said she had taken so much of his time, it amplified her curiosity.

"Of course."

"Why do you not hesitate to spend time with me?"

Luke tilted his head, amusement evident in his facial expression. "To answer your question, you interest me Adelaide."

"How do I possibly interest you?"

He grinned, eyes locking with hers.

"You want to know why I think you're interesting?" Adelaide nodded her head.

"Because I know your bored with those fancy ballgown events you have, know how you follow your parents around because you have too not because you want too and I know you want to have fun and not stay in that stupid world of the rich of yours and I-" he went close to her, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, "I want to show you how much fun not being restrained can be."

With that last sentence, he gave her a peck on the cheek and left. Adelaide standing there frozen to the spot as the feeling of his lips lingered on her cheek, and the words he whispered running through her thoughts.
