Chapter 2

As someone who hates Old English like Shakespeare and the Odyssey (Yes I know it was translated from Greek but that's not the point here) writing this like an old story is really hard. Sorry for everything that you will read until we get to present day. Also, I know the only people on earth should be Adam and Eve, but I couldn't fit them into the story, so the fall took a long time and that's what's up with the new family.

"What happened to you, if you don't mind my asking?" Rosaline asks Lucifer after telling him to sit down while she cleaned his wounds. Lucifer had tried to decline her help; these scratched weren't very bad, and he didn't want help from humans anyway. She was determined, though, and Lucifer had to give in.
"It is a story for another time," Lucifer replies, not intending for that time to ever come.
"You come with no one and you tell us nothing. Why is that?"
"Because I have no one to come with, and there is nothing to tell," he replies.
"I don't believe that." She says it not as if she thinks him a liar, but as though she genuinely wants to learn more about him. "Tell me, stranger. What has happened to you that makes you so hesitant to trust?"
"I have witnessed the wrath of humanity in the past," he tells her truthfully but vaguely. "It is not something I wish to be a part of."
"There is no need for you to fear us," Rosaline assures him. "We are good people; we will not hurt you."
"That is very kind of you," he says. He knows she is correct. She won't hurt him, because he will have her dead first. He will wait for the rest of her family to return first, of course, so he will not have to search for them as well.
Lucifer winces as she cleans a deep wound on his arm. As an angel, it would not have bothered him, but his human form is weak. He cannot wait to find his grace again and out this behind him.
"Are you okay?" she asks.
"Yes, I'm fine," he answers quickly. Just waiting to get out of there. The only reason he hasn't left is because now that he's human, he needs food, and having it given to him like this is much easier than finding it himself.
Rosaline looks up at him quickly, and even Lucifer can tell there's something more she wants to say. She shakes her head minutely, and they stay together in silence until he's been cleaned up.

"Tell us about yourself, Lucifer," Cecile says over dinner. It's a piece of some an animal they had caught-fish, Lucifer recalls them saying. What a fish is Lucifer doesn't know, but it is delicious none the less. If all human food tastes like this, Lucifer doubts this will be as horrible as he had suspected. Still, he would like to find his grace soon; no food is equal to the power he felt as an angel.
"There is nothing to tell," Lucifer replies.
"Where do you hail from?" Paris asks.
"I come from a far away place," he tells them. "You would not know of it."
"What happened to it that caused you to venture here?" Paris questions. "Wouldn't you have rather have stayed where you came from?"
"I could not, for my home was ruined as I left. I shall restore it to its former glory, though. I have no doubt of that."
"I wish you luck with that," Paris says.
"Thank you."
"This meal is delicious," Paris says to his wife kindly.
"I am glad you like it," Cecile replies.
The family chats throughout dinner as Lucifer sits silently, savoring every bite of the delicious fish in front of him. At last, the family is done eating, everyone content with their supper.
"Thank you for the meal," Lucifer says finally, standing up to leave. "I best be on my way now."
"At this hour?" Cecile says incredulously. "It is already dark-you may as well stay the night."
Lucifer hadn't thought of that. In the dark, he won't be able to see any trees, and it seems his entire world is full of them right now. Curse those human eyes. It's so hard to see with them.
"Thank you," Lucifer agrees to the new arrangement. He'll leave tomorrow morning and he will return when he has his grace to kill them, including those of them who have gone hunting. They should be back by the time Lucifer returns with his grace. It will make this much simpler.
Lucifer sleeps where one of the hunters sleeps usually, glad there is an unoccupied space in the home. Lucifer has never had to sleep before. How does sleep work? Lucifer lays down and closes his eyes, thinking of nothing.
It's not working. Why is this not working? His eyes are closed. He's lying down. Why is he not sleeping yet? This human thing is so hard. Maybe Lucifer should have left that night. It appears sleep is not working for him. Can he sleep? Maybe, being an angel, sleep is unattainable. After all, he waited almost a whole minute and he's still awake. Shouldn't he have fallen asleep immediately?
Lucifer knows he can't leave now. He has already said he would stay the night. He should make good on that promise. He'll just lie down for a while, until a suitable time for him to leave tomorrow morning.

How is it morning? He just went to bed not even an hour ago. Is that what sleep is? A long period of time where you cease to exist, or feel as though that has happened? That is so strange. Where is the point of it?
Lucifer attempts to sneak out without any confrontations with the family, but both Cecile and Rosaline are awake. When he enters the room, they both smile welcomingly.
"Good morning," Rosaline greets him.
"'Morning," he replies tiredly. Why is it that he is more tired now than he was when he went to sleep in the first place? It seems fairly backwards to him.
"Did you sleep well?" she asks politely.
"Yeah," he lies, dropping the ending of the word out of laziness. He doesn't really believe he slept well, but how should he know? Sleep is a new concept to him; one he doubts he will ever understand.
"Come, join us for breakfast," Cecile offers.
He notices a strange noise coming from his stomach-like a wolf. Is he part wolf? Humans aren't part wolf, are they? He can feel the hunger, though, so he agrees. He learns that Paris is already out for the day, and that he won't return until sunset. Apparently people try to use all their time with sun, but not everything gets done. Maybe God should have left the sun out longer.
"Thank you," Lucifer says finally, no longer able to eat another bite. "For everything. Farewell, now."
"Where are you going?" Rosaline asks. She's a curious girl, Lucifer notes.
"I lost something of mine, and I hope to find it soon," he tells her. His grace is his top priority.
"Let me help you," she offers.
"You would not know what it is you are looking for," he tells her, "and you would not recognize it even if you found it."
"Then let me keep you company," she suggests.
How does he decline politely? Can he decline politely? She's too determined, he realizes. There is no point.
"Alright," he says finally. Hopefully she'll get out of his way.
