Namjoon uses his fingers to rub his temple, sighing to himself just as Jin enters the room. "Done with your daily ten minutes of self reflection, sir?" Jin says in a mocking tone, putting too much emphasis on the word 'sir'.
Namjoon lets out a huff. "Let's get this over with so I can sleep."
Jin dramatically gasps. "Mr. Kim! You sound way to much like Yoongi! Alright, stay still, I need to do a full body inspection."
His left eye twitches. "I'll fire you."
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of bed," Jin mutters, crossing his arms on his chest.
Yes, Namjoon did wake up on the wrong side of bed. After his dream last night, he was Googling 'Y/n L/n' all morning, not paying attention to his job. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to find anything, so working is the only distraction he has.
"Run my schedule by me again," Namjoon says, leaning back in his chair.
"Today you have three meetings. One in half an hour, the other at three, the last at five. All an hour each."
Namjoon grumbles to himself before sighing. "Okay, thank you. Tomorrow?"
"I won't be around. Yoongi and I will be going as representatives to Park Corporations, remember?" Jin asks.
"Oh, those assholes."
"Yeah, them."
Namjoon rolls his eyes. "Can we wipe them off the board already? How are they still outdoing us?"
"They own more, sir. They just invested in a small restaurant chain that's already seeing major improvements," Jin explains.
"I don't want to be anywhere near them then. 'Go into commercial real estate' they said, 'it'll be fun' they said." Jin snorts at his boss's complaints right as Namjoon stands. "Tell Yoongi and Hoseok to do what they can. Negotiate territory and what businesses we want to invest in."
"Maybe we should invest in Park Corporations at this point," Jin jokes, busting out his windshield wiper laugh.
Namjoon stares, Jin going silent once he realizes Joon isn't going to laugh. He's so done, all he wants to do is sleep. Ever since that dream, he's been on edge, wondering who the hell that girl was and why he can't find her anywhere. Does she have no social media? Was she a figment of his imagination? That's impossible, she was too... real. She felt real, anyway. She felt real to him.
"Make sure everything's ready, I'll be at the meeting shortly," Namjoon says.
Jin does a small bow. "Right away, sir."
"Why do you still call me sir? You windshield wiper laugh in my office but can't call me Joon?" Namjoon asks with an amused look. "You can be unprofessional sometimes."
"No offense, but I didn't think you knew what the word 'unprofessional' meant."
"I consider nicknames friendly. Polite, even," Joon jokes.
"Sir, are you feeling okay?"
No, not at all. "Of course, why?"
Jin sighs. "Alright, I won't push. I'll go get Yoongi and Hoseok."
"Wish them luck on my behalf. I hear dealing with a manbaby like Park Jimin is... difficult," Namjoon says with a wince.
Jin shrugs. "Can't be any worse than dealing with me."
Without another word, he leaves, causing Namjoon to chuckle. Well, he's not wrong. Now all that's left is to do those meetings, then go home and sleep.
~~~
Namjoon feels weightless, the air passing through his fingers peaceful as he opens his eyes. No way is he lucid dreaming for a second time. As if lucid dreaming once isn't hard enough, but twice? How lucky is he?
He sits up, staring at the familiar landscape. He can go wherever he wants, do whatever he wants to do, but he's still here, in the small district he's used to.
Park Corporations isn't too far away, just out of reach. That's where he saw that girl last time, floating outside the building. So, that's where he goes first. What was she looking at that day? He wasn't close enough to see. What could possibly be so important that she went right for it?
He flies, floating effortlessly as he commands his dream to abide by his rules. As soon as he reaches the building, he goes up to where he remembers the girl being, peeking inside. There's a man sitting behind a desk, a gray suit, weird colored hair. It's like he has a rainbow sitting on the top of his head. He looks like a unicorn.
"What the...?" Joon starts to whisper, then, he notices a figure in the reflection of the glass. He whips around, his eyes widening upon seeing a girl hovering not too far away.
"It's impolite to stare at people while they work," she teases, coming closer. He gazes at her as she stops a few feet away, smiling at him. "So, we meet again, Mr. Kim."
"I guess so. How is this happening to us? Why us of all people?" he asks, trying to get the deeper meaning behind this.
There's no way this is coincidence. How in the living hell are they connected? Two strangers who didn't even know each other's names until last night. This is too freaky for Namjoon, he's starting to believe this is a nightmare rather than a dream.
"If I knew the answer to that, I would've told you yesterday," she replies with a shrug. "For now, all we can do is embrace the fact that we're stuck here, together. Oooh, what if we're stuck here together forever? You can't escape from me, Mr. Kim."
"Namjoon," he says. "You can call me Namjoon."
She purses her lips, Namjoon's heart speeding up under her intense gaze. "Nah, I like Joonie better." She pauses to point to the unicorn man. "Done stalking Mr. Park?"
"Not yet. Why is his hair like that?"
"Unicorn? Just like the dream, your guess is as good as mine. He's cute though, so there's that."
Namjoon grumbles something to himself before turning back to look at the man. Great, this girl is like all the thousands: obsessed with Park Jimin.
"He's not that cute," Namjoon says.
"Hey, he's not a bad guy. He cares about everyone, especially me."
Namjoon turns around, eyeing her. "Boyfriend?"
She lets out a 'pfft' noise. "Oh hell no, I may love him, but I can't put up with him full-time. I'm on part-time duty. I'm the best friend. Not to mention he's gay."
"He's gay?"
"His hair is literally rainbow, Joonie," she points out.
"Fair enough, I just figured with all the girls that adore him..."
"He's a big flirt, he even flirts with me, but I can assure you as his childhood best friend: he's gay."
"Right," Joon slowly says, nodding. "Let's stop stalking your childhood best friend then."
"Agreed!" she says, floating down to the ground.
Namjoon watches for a moment, confused at what the hell this feeling is. She's being so nice; so friendly. It's obvious she doesn't believe this is real. She probably thinks he's just a figment of her imagination, nothing real. But he is real. Or at least, he thinks he is. Is she? Great, now he's questioning life itself again. Wonderful job, Kim Namjoon.
After another few beats of nothing, he goes down with her, landing on the ground. She's sitting, facing the crowd. The day sky fades into a night one, Namjoon furrowing his brows.
"Did you do that?" he asks.
She hums. "Yeah. Sorry, I love the night sky."
He comes over, sitting a few feet away from her. His eyes land on her side profile, admiring how the stars illuminate her eyes and lips. She's gorgeous. From this close, he can see her so clearly. Her perfectly colored skin, pursed lips, soft eyes. Is that why his heart keeps speeding up? Because of how beautiful she is?
"Why?" he asks.
"Why?" she asks back.
"The night sky, why do you love it?"
"Are you about to bring out a bunch of life questions that will make me question my own existence?"
"Uhh-"
"Cause I'm totally into it!" At her excited tone, he lightens up. Maybe she's not so bad after all. "Look! How can you not love the night sky?" she says, pointing up at all the stars. "The calming colors, the stars, the cool weather... everything."
She takes a moment, then sighs. "Or maybe it's because my life is pretty boring. Wake up, go to work, eat alone, sleep, repeat. Looking up, that at least gives me something. An imagination. What's out there, or is anything even out there? Are we alone? I'm no scientist, but I'd kill to get the answers to those questions." She cuts herself off, peeking over at him. "Sorry, I talked your ear off."
He shakes her off, smiling unbeknownst to himself. "No... keep going." She gives him a warm, almost relieved smile.
"When I was a kid, my parents would tell me my head was in the clouds. I was always in my imagination, daydreaming most of the time. I wasn't entirely sure who I was," she admits, then sighs. "Still have no clue, if I'm being honest. I have three friends, no lover, I live away from my parents, I have a job I got for good pay. What am I doing?"
He's surprised she opened up so much. But then again, she probably thinks he isn't real. Maybe she's treating him like a conscience or something of the sort.
"Um," Namjoon mutters. "I feel the same way." Admitting that took a stroke of courage, but she deserves to know she's not alone. "I work and work and work, but at the end of the day, I feel alone. Sometimes it feels like I don't even have friends."
She scoots closer, and to his awe, her hand lands on top of his. He snaps his head up, their eyes locking. The light from the stars illuminates her sparkling eyes, her lips twitching up into a smile.
"You have at least one friend, Joonie."
He keeps gazing at her, amazed by her bold words. They met last night, and now she wants to be friends? It's safe to say Joon's heart is pounding against his chest, screaming at him to say literally anything, but his tongue is too dry to form words.
Despite his lack of words, she keeps her smile as she backs up. Her hand leaves his and he instantly misses the contact. His skin tingles from where she touched him, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down.
"I, uh," he manages say. "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Namjoon smiles with her, peering up at the sky. "I like the night sky too," he says.
She peeps back over at him with awe in her eyes, her smile turning into a full grin. He scoots closer, placing his hand over hers again.
"Want to tell me about it?" she asks, her voice barely above a whisper. He maintains the eye contact, his rapid heartbeat almost making him dizzy as he nods.
"Yeah. Yeah, I do."
