A/n: kind of changed the request just a tiny bit, hope you don't mind <3
Summary: Y/n is a POC and gets bullied for it. She ends up showing everyone how smart she is and stands out to Gilbert. He then stands up for her when she's getting bullied.
Y/n walked down the lonely trail that then led to the school house. She had just recently moved to Avonlea and had been attending school for almost a month.
She always dreaded going to school everyday. She had no friends to talk to and all everyone did was avoid or bully her. The main person who bullied her was Billy Andrews but Josie Pye was also a pain.
She walked up to the door and took a deep breath before she walked in, knowing she had to endure the most dreadful words. She finally turned the doorknob and immediately felt eyes on her as she placed her coat onto the rack by the door.
She fiddled with the ends of her dress as she walked over to Tillie and sat down beside her. She could hear people beginning to whisper but tried to ignore it. Mr. Phillips came in and Y/n soon relaxed as the whispers stopped.
Mr. Phillips looked up and a look of disgust came over his face as he made eye contact with her. He then turned the other way and began to write onto the chalk board.
Y/n looked down at her slate and copied down what Mr. Phillips wrote with great precision.
"Can anyone tell me what the value of x is?" Mr. Phillips asked as he walked down the aisle. Y/n looked over to Anne who she knew would always answer the questions but even she looked stumped.
Y/n bit her lip as she waited for someone else to answer the question. She knew the answer but she couldn't bare the stares if she did answer.
She looked over to see Gilbert Blythe who also seemed to not know the answer. "What about you?" Mr. Phillips asked as he now stood beside Y/n.
She then stood up quickly and everyone's heads turned towards her as she cleared her throat. "The answer is 61, sir." She said softly and then sat back down.
Mr. Phillips looked at her astonished and she just smirked to her self. She loved the feeling of showing them how wrong they were about her. She could get used to it.
Now, whenever she knew the answer to something she would make sure she would answer it first before Gilbert or Anne. She would smirk at everyone's shocked face's as she got every single one right.
She stood up so much that her legs had begun to hurt. "The answer is 75." She said now leaving off the "sir" and sat back down.
She looked up to see Mr. Phillips roll his eyes and write down the answer she had said. She smiled to herself and looked over to see hazel eyes lookin back at her.
Gilbert Blythe was watching her with a small smile. She smiled back at him shyly and looked back down at her slate.
It was now lunch time and Y/n sat in the corner she had always did as she ate her lunch. She had a dictionary in one hand as she held onto her sandwich with the other. She knew now that she would have to study more if she wanted to be able to answer every question in class.
She took a bite of her sandwich and looked up to see Billy Andrews and his friends walking towards her.
She swallowed and placed her book down as Billy now stood in front of her. "Well, if it isn't the weirdo." He smirked as he looked down at her.
"What do you want Billy?" She asked with her arms crossed over her chest. "When did you become so smart?" He asked and she just laughed.
"It's called studying." She said gesturing towards her dictionary. "Well, I didn't know your kind were smart. Here I thought they were just a bunch of idiots." He smirked and she gulped nervously from his words.
No one treated her the same and it was for such a stupid reason. The color of her skin. Of course her skin wasn't the same complexion as everyone else's but that doesn't change the fact that she is still human. She is just like everyone else, yet she gets treated as if she's an alien.
Billy looked into her eyes and she sat nervously. "You don't belong here." He shouted in her face and she flinched. "Hey, what's going on here?" Y/n then heard and Billy turned around to see Gilbert Blythe who was looking concerned.
"Nothing, just go eat your lunch." Billy said and then turned back around to look at Y/n. "Your kind is not welcome around here." He smirked evilly and she felt tears prick her eyes.
"Hey!" Gilbert said and pulled Billy away from her. She sat in shock as Gilbert then punched Billy in the face. The whole class became quiet and Y/n just sat there as if she was paralyzed.
"Now leave her alone! If I ever see you near her again, you'll regret it." Gilbert said as he held Billy up by his collar. Y/n looked around the room to see everyone now staring at her.
Y/n then packed up her lunch and put her book away. She had to get away. She grabbed her stuff and ran past Gilbert and out the door.
"Y/n!!" She heard but she kept running until she made it to the forest. She sighed as she ran and ran until she couldn't run anymore. She then fell to the ground and sobbed into her hands.
"Y/n!" She could still hear someone yelling for her but she didn't answer. She then heard leaves rustling, "Y/n." She then heard again and she looked up to see Gilbert who was looking at her sadly.
He then walked over to her, "Please just leave me alone!" She exclaimed but he still moved over to her. He then kneeled down beside her as she cried into her hands.
"Hey. It's ok." He said soothingly and tried to hold her but she pushed him away. "Please! Just leave me alone! I don't belong here!" She sobbed and he looked at her sadly.
"You do belong here! Don't listen to what Billy says. He's just an idiot who doesn't know anything." He whispers softly and she sniffled. She moved her hands away from her face and looked up at him.
"I'm....different." She said slowly and he shook his head in disbelief. "How can you say that? There is nothing wrong with you. The only thing that's wrong is Billy who is just an ignorant jerk." Gilbert said and she grinned.
"Now, come here." Gilbert put his arms out to her and she slowly embraced him. "It's going to be ok, I promise. I won't let anyone hurt you." He said into her ear and she smiled happily.
"Thank you Gilbert. It means a lot to me." She sighed and he rubbed her back soothingly. They stayed there in the forest for a while just embracing each other and Y/n didn't want to be anywhere else but in Gilbert's arms.
