Chapter 10- A shattering betrayal
The next day, the two returned to college, ready for another day.
They walked along the path, the leaves covering the path they walked along with the crisp, Autumn air giving a warm breeze.
"It's such a nice day..."
Blaze commented, resting her head on Ricky's shoulder, wrapping her arms around one of his.
"It is, especially with you."
He replied, giving her a quick kiss on the forehead.
They arrived shortly after, seeing Ryan and Charles waiting for them.
"Hey guys!"
Ryan waved at them as the approached.
"How are you doing, Ryan?"
Ricky responded.
"I'm doing great- and I saw the game yesterday. You played really well."
"Thank you, but I could have done better."
He scratched the back of his head.
"I should have scored that last shot."
"I heard about it- you seem to be a favourite for the coach already."
Charles chimed in.
"Really? I never would have thought."
Ricky replied. They talked for a little longer before going to their respective classes, hoping to finish up the day quickly.
As the final class finished, Ricky went to meet Blaze at a place they had agreed to go at the end of the day. While on his way, he was stopped by a Lopunny. He could tell it wasn't Rachel, but that didn't reassure him from the look she was giving him. She pushed him against the wall, stopping him from escaping.
"Uh, what exactly do you think you're doing?"
He asked nervously. He had a thousand things going through his mind at this point, thoughts of every emotion possible.
"I saw you at the game yesterday, and I've seen you around as well. You're perfect- your smile, your strength, your personality... You're absolutely perfect..."
Her eyes looked into his, almost seductively.
"I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to get at here..."
He replied, finding that he was blushing.
"Aww, look at you. You look so cute when you blush."
She replied, closing the gap between the two of them. It was then he realised what she was doing.
"I-I don't think this is a good idea... I already have-"
He put a paw on his mouth, stopping him from continuing.
"Don't speak- you'll ruin the moment..."
She put his paws on her hips before pulling him in, his lips connecting with hers. He was astonished- it was so sudden, and he didn't even want to think about what his friends would do if they found him like this. It was then he heard a shocked gasp from a few feet away, followed by a half stifled sob.
His heart sank. He prayed that it wasn't who he thought it was. He had so many thoughts going through his head- he couldn't bare to look. Eventually, he couldn't stop himself, and he turned to look at a very hurt and shocked Blaze. The look in her eyes was something he'd never forget- the shock, the pain, the sorrow- all of it.
"B-Blaze!"
He said aloud, suddenly realising what was going on again. He looked to see his paws on the Lopunny's hips, then back to Blaze. He suddenly moved his paws away from her, a sense of pure dread filling him.
"No- it's not-"
She turned and began to run. He could still hear her as she ran, finally breaking free from the Lopunny's grip, pursuing the Braixen he loved so much. At this point, the fact that she felt the same way was arguable.
"Blaze! Don't go! Let me explain!"
Like she was going to fall for that old phrase. She had just seen her boyfriend with his paws on another girl- how could he explain that? She didn't stop, not wanting to see him for a long time after this. Vincent was waiting outside when he saw her. He tried to stop her.
"Whoa- Blaze! What's the mat-"
She shoved him aside so hard he fell to the ground, stunned. He put a claw to his head, groaning in pain. It was then he saw Ricky following her- he didn't like the look of what was going on.
Blaze ran inside her apartment, slamming the door and locking it. She could hear Ricky's voice outside her door.
"Blaze! Open up- let me in! I can explain this to you!"
She turned back to the door.
"Leave me alone! I don't want to hear from you! Why should I believe what you have to say?!"
She shouted back, sobbing again.
"Blaze, please. You can't blame me for this- it wasn't-"
"I can't blame you? I CAN'T BLAME YOU?! I can't blame you for betraying my trust? I can't blame you for cheating on me? I can't blame you for breaking my heart?! Of course not- you disgust me! Never talk to me again, you lying cheat!"
She ran into her bedroom, crying into the cover of her bed. She was both sad and angry, and didn't know what to do. After a while, she couldn't hear Ricky anymore- he'd probably given up by now. She lay on her bed, still quietly sobbing. She had really believed he'd be the one. He made her so happy- she never felt complete without him. She found it funny how quickly opinions can change. He was the love of her life at one moment, and the next she didn't want to see him ever again. She talked to her mother about it- that always made her feel better. Her mother could always calm her down. She felt a little better now, getting up to make something to eat.
On the other hand, Ricky was destroyed on the inside. Who did that Lopunny think she was? He had lost the love of his life, and the chances of getting her back didn't look great. She said herself she never wanted to talk to him again. He sat on his bed, praying for the chance to make amends. He had done nothing wrong, yet he payed a big price. He had never felt so empty.
"Please... Help me fix this..."
He stood up, not feeling any better. He dragged himself into the kitchen, eating something briefly before getting into bed. Getting some sleep would be a dream come true- if the look in Blaze's eyes didn't haunt his dreams, that was. Either way, it was going to be a long night, and it would take a lot to motivate him to get up in the morning. Without Blaze, was there really a point?
