Chapter 3
Wheeljack ended up taking Jax and Moonfrost to the bar where they could get some high-grade energon and meet some new bots. The one who had called the clans "savages" was designated as Mirage. Or as he preferred to be called, Dino. Really stupid in Moonfrost's opinion, but she supposed as long it kept him happy and off of everyone's aft she would call him that.
Moonfrost and Jax had also ended up seeing Elita again along with two of the femme's that were apart of Elita's squadron. Their designations were Chromia and Arcee and Moonfrost enjoyed both femme's company and agreed to get the rest of Elita's squadron together to have "femme chats" as Moonfrost said jokingly.
Some of the other Autobots in the bar took an instant liking to Jax most likely from his friendliness.
It was harder for Moonfrost though and especially this cycle. If she was being honest, she was starting to lose herself. In all honesty, she really hadn't wanted to go to the bar. She just wanted to go to their new room and curl up next to Jax and cuddle with him. She was having such a hard time to keep the smile on her faceplates and the offlining of the younglings out of her processor.
She was eventually saved by the clock when she realized that they had ten breems to return to the med bay.
: We have to get going otherwise we're going to be late: She said through her and Jax's bond link.
: Okay, do you remember how to get there?:
: I don't remember. I'll ask Chromia.: Moonfrost closed the link and turned towards Chromia.
"Hey, I'm sorry but Jax and I have to get back to the med bay. How do we get there?" Moonfrost asked shyly. She hated asking for help but she supposed it was better than getting lost and being late.
"Sure, just make a left out of here and then go down the hall till you see a crossing. Go right, then the next halls you see go left and you should be there," Chromia smiled.
"Okay, thanks, Chromia. I'll see you later!" Moonfrost called over her shoulder as she and Jax stood abreast.
"Making friends already?" Jax said jokingly.
"You're one to talk. All of those mechs loved you," Moonfrost said with an optic roll.
"Well, how can they not? I am awesome," Jax said with a proud smile on his handsome faceplates.
"Don't go getting too cocky on me now," Moonfrost said with a laugh as she turned the corner.
The couple settled into a comfortable silence as they slowly drew closer to their destination. Silence though meant that you had time to think and Moonfrost didn't want to think. She wanted to spill what she was keeping from Jax this very nano-klik. Even though they were sparkmates, Moonfrost was always scared to tell Jax what she was really thinking or feeling. It was how she was raised, it doesn't matter what you feel or think, just treat the patient. Deal with your problems later. This idea that was drilled into her processor was now starting to eat away at her and she didn't know what to do.
Feeling the waves of worry and sadness flow over the bond, Jax looked worriedly at Moonfrost.
"Are you okay?"
"Not now," she said with a sad smile as they came to a stop outside the med bay doors a breem early.
The doors opened up and the couple walked in to see Ratchet talking with Optimus about something serious. Before they could figure out what they were talking about, Optimus turned and given the two bots a small smile.
"Greetings," Optimus rumbled as he dipped his head. "How are you feeling?"
Moonfrost quickly glanced over at Jax before thinking of what to say. She didn't want to lie but she didn't want to tell the truth. So she chose something vague.
"I've been better."
"I would like to apologize about your... family." The last word was spoken with careful thought. She supposed he didn't know if they were like family to her or not but then she quickly remembered her reaction to their offlining and she understood why he had used that word.
"Thank you," Jax said for Moonfrost. He could see just how much this was taking its toll on her. Apparently, Ratchet had noticed too.
"Your room is going to be in hallway D, number 36. We usually start work here in the med bay by 0700 hours. Jax, if you would like, we can put you on patrol tomorrow. Nothing too serious, just going around the city. They usually meet in the main hangar at 0700 hours too," Ratchet piped in. "Here is a map on a chip so you don't get lost," he said as he handed them small chips.
"Thank you for everything you've done for us," Moonfrost said with a grateful, tired smile.
"Think nothing of it. Have a good lunar cycle," Optimus said he once again dipped his head and strided out of the med bay.
The couple inserted the chips and quickly analyzed and found where they needed to go. Their room wasn't too far from the med bay and neither was the main hangar.
"I think we should go get some extra recharge. Thank you once again, Ratchet," Jax said with a dip of his head.
"Have a good lunar cycle. Don't be late, Moonfrost or you might get a wrench to your helm early in the morning," Ratchet said in his gruff voice.
"I won't be. Goodbye," Moonfrost said with a small wave.
The couple walked in silence all the way to their room and when they entered it, Moonfrost immediately went over to the closest berth. Jax shut the door and sat down next to Moonfrost.
It was silent for a few breems as Jax tried to think what to say. He understood how hard it was for her to open up, especially since she is the bot that everyone else is supposed to open up to. He figured he should just be blunt and went for it.
"I know you have a hard time expressing yourself, but sometimes you just have to talk. Just say what's on your processor. It doesn't have to be anything special," Jax said coaxingly. "Just try, for me?"
"It might help if you cuddle with me..." she mumbled.
Jax gave a short laugh and pulled her into his arms. Together they laid down with Moonfrost laying half on top of Jax as she traced small patterns into his chest plates. It was silent for a few breems as they took in each other's silence.
"I loved those younglings like they were my own..." Moonfrost started off.
"I know," he breathed.
"And all of those bots that were barely into their adult frames... I loved everyone there," Moonfrost vented quietly while Jax just nodded on silently.
"They're happy now. They are with their carriers and away from this war."
"Yeah... I suppose. But it doesn't make it hurt any less," she breathed. It was hard to believe that someone who was always there was suddenly gone. She hated that feeling. She hated that feeling where you'll never see them laugh or smile or talk to you again. Oh Primus, how she hated that feeling.
But Moonfrost was never one for attention when it came to things like this. So, naturally, she moved on.
"Enough about me. How are you doing?" She asked hoping Jax wouldn't say anything.
"Same as you I suppose, but we'll get through it. Whatever life throws at us we can and will take on," Jax said squeezing Moonfrost a little tighter.
Moonfrost let a small smile and chuckles escape her lips.
"How are you so optimistic?" She whispered.
"Because I'm awesome of course, how else?" Jax said with a puffed up chest.
It was moments like these that Moonfrost remembered how much she loved Jax. He was one of those mechs that cared for every bot and made them laugh when they needed it most. He supported them and gave them advice. When she first met him, his flirting aft had annoyed her to no end. Mech kindness had become so alien to her that she assumed it was seduction every time. After realizing that he was truly a kind mech, she slowly fell in love with him.
"Yes," she breathed, "I suppose you are."
The pair stayed like that until they both fell peacefully into recharge. It was perhaps one of the most peaceful lunar cycles they have had in a while.
Of course, nothing good could last forever.
XXXXXXXXXX
It was the sound of alarms blaring that woke Moonfrost and Jax from recharge.
Both bots glanced at each other and quickly jumped from the berth they were sharing and ran to the door. Alarms were never a good thing.
When the door had opened, they were not surprised to see bots running around the halls. Yep, definitely not a good thing.
: What should we do?: Asked Jax, for once not knowing what to do.
: I say we go to the med bay. It sounds like we were attacked or something: Moonfrost said immediately making a right out of the room and running towards the med bay. A few nano-kliks later and she could hear Jax following.
Moonfrost had skidded to a stop in front of the doors as they opened up for her and she glanced in to see different bots situated on different berths, each sporting their own wounds. To the side, she could see Ratchet hurridly walking to one of the berths.
"Ratchet! Which bot do I see to first?" She exclaimed, immediately jumping into action. The medic looked up at her and she could see him relax slightly with the help that had arrived.
"Take care of the mech in the second berth on the left side!" he called back before continuing on his way to his patient.
Moonfrost nodded even though he was already long gone and hurried her way over to mech. His leg had been hit causing large amounts of energon to spill on the berth. If she did not tend to him soon, he would offline.
She turned and hurried over to the table full of materials and tools making a list of what she would need. She glanced over at Jax and could seen him standing by the door not sure what to do.
"Maybe you should go to the main hangar and see what you can do there," she called as she grabbed the necessary tools and hurried back to her patient.
"Can you hear me?" She asked hurriedly as she glanced up at her patient's faceplates.
"Y-yeah. Who a-are you?" He asked as he grunted in pain when she started to seal off the broken energon tubes.
"My designation is Moonfrost. I am a new medic here," she said as she added on a protective layering to protect the wounds.
"You must be the newbie then- ow!" He chuckled before cutting off suddenly.
"You know if you sat still it wouldn't hurt as much!" She retorted before he could say anything.
"Ugh, fine." He grunted as he laid back down. "Femmes these days," he muttered.
"Don't make me hit you with a wrench," she threatened as she glanced up to his optic before quickly looking back down to what she was doing.
She was in a mood this cycle apparently. Sometimes she hated it when patients talked to her when she was working on them while other times she wanted to joke to lighten the mood. Apparently this cycle was the latter.
"You sound exactly like Ratchet you know," he said as he closed his optics when she pulled out a piece of shrapnel.
"Really? Interesting," she hummed. She's only seen a couple of instances where Ratchet had thrown a wrench at a bot, and if she was being honest, she had seen some similarities.
The two fell into silence as Moonfrost's shoulder' slowly went down as the operation slowly came to an end. She loved helping bots but operating was always her least favorite thing to do. So many things could go wrong in a short amount of time and she feared that every time she started an operation something would go horribly wrong. Jax and many other medics that she had met had reassured her that she was an amazing medic but she still had many doubts. Who wouldn't?
"Okay," she vented. "I think you'll be okay. Take a easy. Me or Ratchet will be around once we get every other bot taken care of. For now, no moving." She hissed as she hurried away to the next bot.
She sighed, this was going to be a long cycle.
XXXXXXXX
Here you go, enjoy.
