Episode Thirty
Jungkook's hand squeezed Jimin's thigh as the lights went off in the movie theater for the A Sprinkle of Love Premier. Jimin grinned, lovingly turning to his boyfriend of nearly a year, and giving him a little wink.
Even though their relationship had been public for months now, it still shocked Jimin how crazy the paparazzi went for them. Walking out of the limo together to walk the red carpet, they'd nearly been blinded by the camera flashes. Jimin tried to avoid reading any articles about them when he could, the ones speculating a PR stunt were the worst, but he did love getting high quality candids of them together for free. A year into their relationship, he always seemed to forget they started off as rivals.
The movie critics, cast, directors, and celebrity guests all quieted down in the screening room as the title screen flashed before them.
"You look beautiful, Jimin." Jungkook whispered into Jimin's neck and Jimin instantly blushed, swatting Jungkook away.
"I know." Jimin answered teasingly and Jungkook grinned, giving Jimin's thigh another squeeze.
"You know," Jungkook said, leaning back into his chair and crinkling the beautiful black suit jacket Jimin chose for him. "No matter how many premiers I go to, I always feel so nervous watching my movies for the first time."
Jimin smiled at that, giving Jungkook's shoulder a subtle kiss. "I'm always excited. It's fun to look back on filming it through watching the final product."
The first scene started playing showing Jimin mixing batter in a messy apartment kitchen while his on-screen best friend announced he'd signed Jimin up for a baking competition.
"See now that's the most unrealistic part." Jungkook whispered, "that there's no smoke in the kitchen while you're baking."
Jimin stifled a laugh. "Come on, I made sugar cookies last week and they turned out amazing."
"I love that my reward for turning the smoke alarm off was only three of those cookies."
"You got more dessert later." Jimin said, rolling his eyes and Jungkook grinned at the blush that creeped on Jimin's cheeks. Jungkook brushed his hand on top of Jimin's, playing with his fingers before intertwining them. Ever since they had sex on Jimin's birthday, Jimin would always blush at the mention of anything sexual between them. Jungkook looked over at Jimin now, his face partially covered by the dark shadows of the movie theater, and immediately thought of how his bangs would stick to his forehand when he sweat, his throat bobbing as he moaned, and those lips, those sinful sinful lips, begging -
"Wow, did I really look at you like that?" Jimin asked and Jungkook almost coughed as he turned his attention back into the movie. His brows flicked up, it was the first scene Jimin and him filmed together where Jimin walks into the judges room instead of the participants on accident.
"Yes." Jungkook answered simply, looking back at Jimin who was staring at himself on screen.
Jimin furrowed his brows, surprised how cold his gaze was. It worked for encountering a stranger on-screen at that point in the movie, but Jimin knew there was more to it than that. He could see the jealously in the clench of his jaw, the indifference in his expression, and the clear distaste in his empty eyes.
Maybe I'm not as good of an actor as I thought - Jimin said to himself, knowing that anyone with eyes could tell how head over heels he was for Jungkook now. In the scene on-screen, he couldn't convince someone he was interested in Jungkook even if he paid them.
"You'll just have to make it up to me." Jungkook whispered, nudging Jimin in the shoulder as his boyfriend watched the movie, shocked.
"I already got rid of my couch, what more do you want?" Jimin teased back, but his response was a little delayed and his voice shaking the smallest bit. Jungkook squeezed Jimin's hand, brushing his thumb over the top of it.
"Hey, stop that. We didn't know each other yet. Enemies to lovers is kinda hot, right? We had to do the enemies part first to get to here."
Jimin snorted and Director Min shushed them from the second row. Jungkook grinned, knowing their director was whispering with Hoseok equally as much.
The scene switched to Jimin and Jungkook's first kiss and Jungkook listened to Jimin audibly gasp as the camera focused on his expression softening as he looked at Jungkook. Jungkook remembered that day, it was the first real progress he'd made breaking Jimin's ice. He remembered sitting outside the art museum in LA a couple nights later when Jimin fixed the complement Director Min made him give Jungkook before they filmed the kiss. How he changed it from Jungkook's hair to his humor.
"You wouldn't stop kissing me." Jungkook teased, though his own wit slowed as he watched the way Jimin pulled Jungkook in on screen. He could see the shock in Jimin's eyes in the scene, genuine shock and not for the sake of the camera. Jungkook's heart thumped in his chest, leaning forward slightly in his seat as he could visibly see the switch flip into place from Jimin hating him to being surprised by Jungkook instead.
Jungkook was even more shocked when he saw his own star-struck expression. Even while acting, he couldn't keep his admiration for The Park Jimin from his face. It didn't matter what Jimin said on set, the actor was his idol, and only watching the movie back did Jungkook realized how insane their relationship had evolved. Sure, he still admired Jimin as an actor, but now that was one of the last things he'd mention in his long lists of what he loved about The Park Jimin.
"Did you like it?" Jungkook asked - suddenly insecure. Like a little boy passing his crush a note over his desk. "The kiss."
Jimin laughed - only for Yoongi to tell them he'd find and throw a chair at him if Jimin didn't shut up and watch the movie - which made Jimin laugh again.
Jimin brought their clasped hands to his lips, kissing the back of Jungkook's. "I was surprised your lips tasted like cherry. They were crazy soft too. So yes, Jungkook, I liked the kiss, but I think I realized I might like you more than I pretended I didn't - and that was even scarier."
"And now?"
"And now I'm in love with you, you idiot. The only thing I'm scared of is your sex drive."
"For the love of God," Min Yoongi said, flicking Jimin and Jungkook on the ears as he leaned forward in his seat. "One more sex comment and this movie will change its title to a sprinkle of death."
"Well that would be a sprinkle of disaster, huh?" Jungkook said back only to get flicked in the ear again. "Ok, ok, we'll stop. I promise."
Yoongi snorted as he leaned back into his chair and Jimin did his best to focus on the movie again. Jungkook frowned when Seokjin came on screen, looking at Jimin's face with worry. He was surprised to see no pain in his expression, only awe as he watched his character push Seokjin's own away when they filmed the scene where another baking contestant had fallen for Jimin's character.
Jimin couldn't help it, his eyes teared up. He was just so - proud. Watching the movie he'd filmed with Jungkook and then seeing Seokjin on screen, he felt something settle in his chest. Not only had he made it out of his relationship with Jin, but he'd found his own strength. His own voice.
What a difference one year could make.
Jimin turned to look at his boyfriend and smiled. He knew he had the strength to face anything on his own if he wanted, but Jimin was so happy to have Jungkook beside him so that he didn't have to. Someone he loved, truly loved, and someone he trusted. Jimin recognized how strong he was, but to have someone standing tall with you was a whole other thing.
"I love you too." Jungkook whispered and Jimin beamed. Jimin didn't need to say anything for Jungkook to know what he was thinking about.
Jungkook had done a lot of his own working after Namjoon and walking away from that cafe meeting was the single most important thing he'd done in his life. Jimin was a fire, a forever flame in his life, where Namjoon was nothing but ashes. He'd chosen his future, that day.
The two actors turned back to the movie, watching the rest of it in quiet awe as they walked through the very start of their relationship and the pain they had to overcome just to get to this moment. Neither one of them had ever felt so free in their lives. Living together, entangling their lives together, it wasn't scary like it had been with in their past relationships. It didn't feel like being caught in a trap or a snare waiting to clasp. It felt like two people who were whole and understood each other.
It felt like home.
When the credits rolled, the entire theater stood and clapped. Jimin was crying, even though the movie would probably win cheesiest romance film of all time.
As the lights turned on, Jungkook reached for Jimin, putting his hand on his lower back and pulling Jimin in. Jimin laughed, letting Jungkook dip him as the two actors shared a kiss in front of a cheering crowd.
"You still taste like cherry." Jimin said as they pulled away and Jungkook grinned so freely he thought he'd never stop. He just couldn't believe how far they'd come and it only made him incredibly excited to see how much further they could go.
