Episode Seven
Jungkook's head was spinning. He was on his last scene of the day where his character, a judge on the baking competition show, was just found out about having a relationship with one of the contestants, Jimin's character, and the other judges debated whether or not Jungkook should be fired before the final bake off occurred.
He knew Jimin finished filming in the morning, he only had one scene to shoot, but the boy lingered on set for hours after. He talked with the make up crew, washing their makeup brushes for them while they gossiped about drama on set and how they caught two extras making out in the bathroom. Jimin floated after to the set crew and brought them waters before grabbing his on screen best friends and worked on their next scene to flush out a couple awkward kinks in the script. Now he was finally packing up in the back, talking with a crew member about how his family was and if the crew member's son turned five yet.
Despite himself, Jungkook kept getting distracted by where Jimin was and what he was doing. Dating? Why did Hoseok have to ask that of all things? Jungkook hadn't romantically involved himself with anyone over a year since his last relationship. Since Kim Namjoon had ended things with him. He still couldn't imagine it - opening up like that again.
Still, Jimin kept catching Jungkook's eye despite Yoongi yelling at him to focus. Did he always smile that much or did Jungkook never notice because up until today Jimin usually frowned when the two boys were in the same room? He certainly never noticed how short Jimin actually was either, eyeing the way the actor rolled on his heels as he talked to the crew member, a solid head taller than Jimin. It was surprisingly adorable.
"Cut! Take ten you guys. Jungkook, get your head out of the gutter for the next take or I'll personally put it in one, yea?" Yoongi barked and Jungkook jumped, suddenly hearing the set come back to life. The red and brown colors chosen for the judges office suddenly seemed more vibrant, the sounds of his co scene actors' voice much louder than he remembered. God how bright were those stage lights?
"Yes sir." Jungkook answered, rubbing the back of his neck as he walked off the set and towards the back snack table. He just needed some water, that was all.
Jungkook blamed that stupid Dispatch article for causing his head to scramble. He'd read it after Hoseok mentioned the thing, surprised how convincing the photos of Jimin and Jungkook looked. Like two of them were actually close friends and not two strangers navigating landmines around each other. The last section of the article made him stop more than anything else. Jungkook didn't keep up with actor drama in the industry often but he loosely knew of Jimin's relationship with the K-drama actor, Kim Seokjin. Were they still together?
There wasn't much information on the couple, Korea wasn't a huge fan of public relationships, but it struck him odd that Jimin never mentioned him in the weeks they've been filming. Not to the make up artists or crew members, definitely never to Jungkook. Jungkook poked his tongue into his cheek at the thought - why it bothered him so much he wasn't sure, but it did strike him as strange. Why not mention your boyfriend?
Jimin's trouble, Jungkook. He could hear Hoseok say in the back of his mind. He could be messing with you. Planning something. Jungkook's own voice mixed in and he felt a pang of guilt in his chest at the thought.
"I stayed back to watch your last shot." Jimin said, causing Jungkook to jump as the actor snuck up on him. Jimin grabbed a chip from the snack table like his words meant nothing. Jungkook flushed, suddenly feeling how close Jimin was standing.
"Oh." Jungkook said, blushing deeper. "I was wondering why you haven't escaped from here yet."
Jimin shrugged and grabbed another chip. "I'm about to dip."
"Your chip in some salsa?"
"Funny. And yes, that and also I'm heading out soon." Jimin grinned and Jungkook felt something flip in his chest.
"Can I ask why?" Jungkook said.
"Why what?"
"Why watch my scene? I'm the one who could learn from watching you act. You don't gain anything from watching me."
"I - I don't know, actually." He answered. Jimin then reached for Jungkook's script and Jungkook let it free from his grip, watching as Jimin's dark eyes scanned his lines. People stared at them, Jungkook could feel their confused eyes on their backs. Jimin didn't seem too affected by it.
What did Seokjin think of the photos? Jungkook thought, biting his lip nervously. Then again, why would Seokjin think anything? The buzz of the article was that two actors who supposedly hated each other were caught eating dinner. Nothing else. It's not like the article implied Jimin was cheating on the guy.
Jungkook swallowed, trying to silence the thoughts floating around his head. He could hear Namjoon loudest in the back of them, the four years of their relationship echoing like his head was a cave and Namjoon stood at the entrance.
"Jungkook?" Jimin asked and Jungkook jumped, realizing Jimin's small hand was on his shoulders and his head tilted up to catch Jungkook's attention. "You okay?"
"Yeah. Yeah of course." Jungkook laughed, rolling his shoulders back. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"Well I asked if you want to run through your scene together before the ten is up. You've uh - well not only have you not replied, you also haven't drank from the water you've been holding near your month since I've come over here."
"Oh." Jungkook said, blinking. Then his mind started to finally turn, the little ginniepig jumping back onto the hamster wheel behind his thoughts. Workshop a scene with Jimin? That would be - "Jimin that would be invaluable. Are you sure? I would love that. Seriously, thank you. I've been struggle with getting emotion right since our first read through."
Jimin nodded, running a hand through his hair. "You have all this raw talent but don't quiet have a hold how to use it. You're almost there with this scene and I'm willing to give a hand. It's really similar to one from your last movie."
That made Jungkook grin. "You've seen Euphoria?"
"Of course."
"But it won an award over yours."
"It's a good movie, Jungkook. I'm not that much of an asshole."
Jungkook grinned wider and Jimin actually laughed. "Wow. Okay didn't realize I was that bad." Jimin said, rolling his eyes and handing Jungkook back his script.
"I -" Jimin started before his eyes caught something behind Jungkook and his entire face flushed. Jungkook turned to see Director Min speaking with a man who could easily pass for a super model. His hair was thick and dark, styled in waves around his square jaw. His eyes were almost golden under the set head lights and he wore a perfectly tailored dark green suit. The man gave a nod towards Jimin before returning to his conversation with Director min.
Jimin shook his head, retuning his attention to Jungkook despite the slight shake to his hands.
"Look, I never thanked you for sitting with me." Jimin answered simply, shrugging. His cheeks flushed, tinting red and Jungkook could see the effort in Jimin's eyes not to let his pride get in the way of his words. "When I was - uh - upset. I...um." Jimin ran a hand through his hair and Jungkook laughed.
"It's really hard for you to say it, huh?"
Jimin blushed deeper. "I can say it."
"Go ahead." Jungkook grinned and Jimin huffed. Jungkook was almost convinced the guy would stomp his toe.
"I'm glad to be friends." Jimin finally said and Jungkook smiled bright, pushing on Jimin's shoulder.
"Ah! No!" Jungkook shielded his eyes with his forearm. "The personal growth! It's too strong!"Jungkook teased and Jimin rolled his eyes again before looking back to the man in the green suit, the amusement dimming from his eyes.
"Do you know him?" Jungkook asked and Jimin immediately straightened up like he'd been slapped with cold water.
"Looks like Yoongi's calling you." Jimin countered. Jungkook turned and the director was in fact waving Jungkook over as if he was trying to direct a plane to land on their set. He'd probably been trying to get Jungkook's attention for a second now.
"Shoot - we ran out of time to practice this scene, but if there's any others you want to work on, just let me know. My going rate is $400 per workshop session."
"Get outta here." Jungkook scoffed, rolling his eyes. "I better go before Yoongi throws his Director chair at me."
"He's done it before." Jimin chimed.
"I know, my leg's still bruised."
Jimin smiled and Jungkook couldn't help but reflect the look himself. "I like it too, you know. Being friends."
Jimin flushed and Jungkook took that as his cue to leave, eyeing the stranger in the green suit who was walking off set and out of the studio as he did so.
