Episode Nine

"Alright boys, let's wrap this scene up quickly, eh? My husband went home sick and I will get home to make him tea to feel better before bed. If you suckers get in the way of that I'm gonna be throwing chairs. You got that?" Yoongi barked, folding his script around his lips to form a makeshift mega phone from his director's seat.

The crew murmured an agreeing response around them, most knowing Yoongi was full of empty threats. Jungkook's own scene had already finished earlier so he could have gone back to his apartment at any time, but still he lingered to watch Jimin's scenes and maybe try to catch another conversation with him before he headed home.

Plus, he (as an empath) had the sense Jimin might need a friend on set today with the addition of his ex boyfriend to the movie.

Kim Seokjin wasn't as tall as Jungkook thought he'd be when he finally saw the actor in real life. He wasn't sure why that struck him as so odd but - well it was the first thing he noticed. The second was how broad his shoulders were underneath his pink suit jacket. His face was carved like a prince in kid's story books, handsome and delicate. Red lips, pale skin, dark, dark hair. He was striking and walked with a confidence that made Jungkook uneasy.

Jimin's reaction had mimicked Jungkook's shock, but whatever emotions rioted in his friend's head were masked as fast as they came. The second the two actors were in the same room Jimin's face went blank. There was a careful craft to his expressions after, aimed towards Jin, towards Jungkook, towards the crew. Like a camera followed his every breath and a script fluttered across his lips.

Jungkook could have gone home earlier, sure. He almost offered to drive Hoseok home when his manager wasn't feeling well in the morning but then his hand got hot where Jimin's finger had brushed against it for support and the offer never came up. And so Hoseok drove home alone and Jungkook was left watching Jimin act with his ...sort of ex?

It was a strange situation to be in.

"Alright. Last scene for the night! Jin I just need you to press Jimin against the practice baking table and Jimin you need to be all like 'oh my gosh no! I love my baking judge lover" then Jin be all like 'oh my gosh I can use that to blackmail you, you're sleeping with the judge oooo.'' Yoongi said and his Boom-mic people gave him a look.

Yoongi clapped his hands. "Like The Rock, I want this scene to be strong. Kapeesh?"

Seokjin gave a thumbs up on set, the actor effortlessly taking control of the environment despite joining the cast so suddenly. The second he'd walked in with Taehyung, the two commanded space around them. He hadn't seen Seokjin successfully walk up to Jimin or vise versa all day, though he'd seen the actor try countless times only for Jimin to be swept up in a scene or gone off set.

Jungkook scrunched his nose, seeing the hopeful look light up Seokjin's eyes as he stared at Jimin before him. The same bright longing one the man had been giving him all day.

He didn't know what to make of it. Jimin had even eaten lunch with Jungkook in their trailer to avoid Jin - which Jungkook didn't mind. It was nice to eat together casually; they hadn't brought up any serious topics, discussing new Netflix dating show drama and food they missed from Korea. It was new, nice even.

Jimin now glanced over at Jungkook when Jin looked away from him, a panic softening from his face when his eyes landed on him.

Jungkook didn't know what to do to respond - so he just waved. Jimin grinned at that and Jungkook felt something flush over him. He blushed, unsure why, and rubbed the back of his neck. Jimin mouthed the words "idiot" and Jungkook stuck out his tongue which made Jimin laugh before the director called scene start.

That brought Jin's attention back to Jimin which caused the light to dim in Jimin's eyes and the laugh lessened from his throat.

Again Jungkook's hand burned where Jimin's anxious finger had brushed. He blushed deeper, yelling at himself to stop overthinking something so small.

"Alright, and take one!" A small sound rang and the stage lights of the baking competition set design came to life. The stage lights were a slight blue to make the scene more dynamic and emphasize Jin's character as the villain of this particular scene when Jimin rejects him, revealing the fact that he was dating one of the show's judges and had an unfair advantage in the baking competition. It was supposed to be a classic, cheesy love triangle conflict moment.

"Hey, focus on me." Jin said - or more accurately the character he stole from the poor sick actor who couldn't shoot the movie anymore. Jimin, ever the actor, allowed the slight nerves that jittered around Jin to ease away. His stance was more tense, surer of himself. He was the confident baker who knew what he wanted, not the actor thrown into a volcano and told to swim.

"I'm sorry, but we can't - I can't give you what you want. I don't love you, I love someone else." Jimin said, looking into Jin's eyes. He sounded so sincere, those eyes of his yearning, burning with a passion of a man sure of his decision but grieving having to go through with it. Jungkook bit at his nail, it wasn't just experience that made Jimin so good, he radiated talent. It gave him chills to watch him act - even if it was with Seokjin.

Jin's hand came softly to Jimin's cheek, stepping closer towards him which made Jimin's character back up into the long marble table where the contestants would be baking during their competition. Jimin's hands went to the edge of that marble, gripping it so that his knuckles went white, and a camera zoomed in on the movement.

Jimin, despite the hold on the table, leaned in the smallest bit to Jin's palm cradling his cheek. Jin released some tightness the man had been carrying in his chest at that, eyes softening on Jimin's face and tracing his face. Jimin's gaze hardened then and he leaned up suddenly causing Jin to pull back, shocked at the sudden movement.

"I respect you as a baker but you need to respect my decision too. I don't ... I don't love you. I'm sorry." Jimin was so close to Jin that one wrong movement and the two men would collide. Jungkook had seen Jimin play in some action movies but he never truly saw how sincere and firm Jimin could look if he tried. It worked well because he didn't over play it, it wouldn't make sense for him to, so he used his softness to his advantage. He kept his voice level, barely a hum. His muscles were tense but he used small movements like standing straighter or tilting his neck instead of puffing his chest like some bigger action actors would.

Jin tilted his head, moving some of Jimin's bangs out of his eyes and to Jimin's credit, Jimin didn't flinch. There was a possessiveness in that movement that went beyond good acting and made Jungkook's skin itch.

"Why? Who else could you have?" Jin's character asked. That's not the line, Jungkook thought. It's 'I think I know why.'  The camera zoomed in on Jin's expression and then Yoongi - who for the first time Jungkook had ever heard such a sound leave that man's lips - squealed.

"Cut! Cut! That's a wrap everyone! Someone clean up, my man needs me. Linda can fix anything needed in post." Yoongi said as he practically ran out of the studio.

Linda, the creative director, would not in fact 'fix it in post.'

Jungkook gawked at the now empty director chair and then returned his focus back to Jin and Jimin. Jin's entire frame had relaxed the second Yoongi had yelled cut but Jimin was still tense as Seokjin hadn't moved his arms from caging Jimin against the set counter.

"Baby, let's talk." Seokjin said in a quiet voice, finally forcing Jimin to look up at him. Jungkook eyed the way Jin's features stayed soft. Though his brow was creased, he face was a picture of concern rather than one of anger. "You made me chase you all the way to LA, I'd appreciate at least a conversation since I don't the luxury of hearing your voice over the phone for a month."

Jin's fingers brushed up and down Jimin's forearm. The touch was gentle and his expression kind as it assessed the furrowed brows of Jimin's own. "Or are you going to ignore me like you have for weeks?"

Jimin glanced back at Jungkook who mouthed are you okay? at him then immediately turned red from the stupid movement. Crew members were starting to stare at the stars and slow their clean up work to eavesdrop.

Jimin flushed.

"Okay Jin, let's talk." Jimin said, wiggling out from Jin's hold and trying to wave off the crew around them. "Just, not here. There's a break room we can use." Jimin added, loud enough for Jungkook to hear as he turned around. Seokjin walking behind him, a hand outstretched on Jimin's lower back, and Jungkook trailing a distance away.
