It was my first time back in Seoul in years. I hadn't been here since probably age sixteen or seventeen. I am twenty-six now.
I moved back to Seoul because I had gotten an amazing job offer and since I had also grew up around here, I was more then thrilled to come back.
Not only because of the amazing job, but because I missed my best friends. I hadn't seen them in so long and sadly wasn't able to catch up as often as I'd have liked.
I get it, we're all adults now. It's not easy to stay in touch. Life gets busy sometimes and you get swept up in it. Years feel like months, days fly by, time moves too quickly.
At this exact moment I was going to meet up with my first ever best friend, Jin. I had known Jin since the first grade. Along the way he introduced me to his buddies and that's how we all came to be really great friends.
As I walked down the street towards the coffee shop, I spotted an all too familiar face. This time he looked much older, no longer being a young boy.
"Y/n, is that really you?!" Jin asked bright eyed as he flung his arms around me in a bone crushing hug.
"Yup, it's really me." I confirm as I squeeze him back just as tight. "You look so different. Nothing like the little girl I remember." He laughs as he pulls back and looks me up and down.
"Well, I'm definitely not a teenager anymore." I laugh as I push my hair behind my ear. Jin let's out a chuckle as he motions towards the door. "Let's head inside. We have so much to catch up on."
We spend nearly two hours sipping our coffees and talking about life. We talked about my new job offer here and about Jin's business. We also talked about the other guys too.
"Hoseok too he-" Jin's words came to a halt as he glanced over at me. "Sorry...Have you talked to him at all?"
Just the simple mention of his name made my heart leap into my throat. Jung Hoseok, my first love. The man I imagined I'd spend the rest of my life with.
I was so young back then I never realized life wasn't some fairytale. I didn't know things didn't always work out and sadly, it just wasn't our time. I had moved away and we broke up.
To this day, I still wasn't able to accept that and move on. He was my first love, my first everything. I had dated other people before but none of them really gave me that spark I once felt. None of them were him...
"No, I haven't." I say, my voice low. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought him up." Jin says apologetically.
"No, it's okay. It's been so long, I'm over it." I say. I wasn't over it but at the same time, I was an adult now. I knew how to be friendly, even with an ex.
"How is he?" I ask, wanting to know more about his current life. Was he seeing someone? The thought made me feel sick.
"He's really good. He just started a new job not that long ago and from what I know he loves it. He just moved into his first house too. He seems happy."
"Does he know that I moved back?" I ask, unsure if Jin had mentioned anything to anyone. "I don't think so. I only told Yoongi and Namjoon that you were coming back so unless they said something, he probably doesn't know."
For some reason I was glad. I was glad he didn't know I was back. It somehow made this feel easier. I wasn't sure I was ready to see him just yet. I knew I'd have to at some point but I just wasn't ready.
After all, I care about him so much. Of course it's been so long I wouldn't go as far as to say I was still in love with him but I definitely love him, that would never go away. I would always care about him.
"Do me a favor and don't mention it just yet, okay? I want to settle in here a bit before I get together with everyone if that's alright." I say and of course Jin is understanding.
I was always grateful for that aspect of his.
After awhile we parted ways and I made my way home. I still had lots to unpack and although I was exhausted from traveling to get here, I still needed to make at least a little dent.
Upon getting home I unpacked the kitchen boxes and the ones for the bathroom. I did a load of laundry so everything was clean for the week and then I finally allowed myself to call it for the night.
I could do the rest throughout the week. After all I didn't have too much to unpack but it was certainly enough.
I changed into some comfy clothes, deciding I was too tired to shower tonight and that I would just do so first thing in the morning. With that I plopped down on my bed which was very poorly made but I didn't mind.
Tomorrow was my first day at the new job and I felt nervous but super excited. I liked change, believe it or not, and I was ready to see what this new job would bring me.
I was really looking forward to settling in here and getting back to old times. Of course now it's just a little different since I'm no longer a kid and have responsibilities now.
Although everything was different, I couldn't help but to feel as if I had never left. I was glad to be back in Seoul and I was more then excited to see all of my friends I hadn't seen in so long.
The only thing I was worried about was Hoseok. It had been nearly ten years since I had seen him last and almost seven since I had last spoken to him.
A few months after our breakup and my moving away he texted me, begging me to stay with him. It crushed me because I loved him so much and I didn't want things to end but I knew it couldn't work with me so far away.
I still felt awful about that to this day. I just wasn't sure how I could face him after all these years. I couldn't help but to wonder if he hated me now, If he despised me for breaking his heart.
He was my first love and I was his. We were together all throughout high school and madly in love. Like I said I thought we were going to spend the rest of of lives together.
Now all of it is just a memory.
