Chapter Four: Gold Meets Silver

"Are you insane?" She whispered infuriatingly. "First you kidnap me and throw me in your car after hitting me and now your suggesting I dance with you?!"

He shrugged his shoulders. "Yes that's basically what I'm suggesting, but in my defense you were the one who ran out in front of my car, for a reason still unknown to me which I feel had to do with that gorgeous looker on your cheekbone."

Her hand went up again to hide it, but he pulled her hand away and held it between his two hands like she were a delicate piece of china.

"I'm not trying to draw attention to it or anything, but if you don't want to answer my questions or have me answer anymore wouldn't it be far easier to just dance with me? And not like the wii version but I mean the actual thing."

Liz gave him a look of confusion and he laughed again. "Okay, sorry, I shouldn't have joked around about the wii, judging from your attire you probably don't know what a wii is, so ignore my dry humor. But anyways, to get to the gist of things would you please dance with me? I won't ask questions about anything that relates to your scar."

She regarded him suspiciously, slowly putting her other hand in his as he pulled her out into the middle of the dance floor.

He patted her on the shoulders and held up his index finger. "Give me a second." He said, running over to a table that held a Bluetooth dock and small remote.

An iPod was already placed in the dock and a blue light flashed as Cole picked up the remote and clicked a button before jogging back over to where Liz stood.

"Now, you put your one hand here," He said, taking her left and putting it over his shoulder, "and you put the other here." Taking her right, he put it it over his other shoulder.

She rolled her eyes. "I know how to dance."

He smiled and she watched as it spread and entered his eyes. "You do, do you? Well then Miss... well now that I think about it I never caught your name now did I?"

"It's Liz." She said cautiously, choosing her words carefully as the soft lilt of a piano came forth into the room, surrounding them in its warmth and emotion.

Cole pulled her to his body, holding her close and studying her reaction to their close proximity.

She said nothing and instead moved closer, hearing and feeling the sound of the music.

"Liz is a lovely name," He whispered into her ear, "it suits you."

Surprise etched itself across her face. "It does?"

"It does." He said, spinning her in a small circle and watching with content as she let his hands hold her waist and lift her into the air.

Responding to being held above his head she bent her body to balance herself with his arms before she fluidly moved backwards and slid down his back, ending with her arms around his neck.

He took a hold of her wrists and lifted them above his head to turn around toward her.

Single notes of the piano combined with violins and the deep swells of the cello enveloped them, leaving them focused on only each other.

He gently lifted her so that she stood on the tips of her toes, taking a hold of one hand he guided her around in a  slow circle, never breaking eye contact.

Taking her into his arms he danced in motion to the piano with her on the tops of his feet, like a child learning to walk.

Inches above his feet she gripped onto his shoulders and swung her legs around his left side to wrap onto the right, his arms holding her securely as she transitioned.

Sliding through the opening between his right arm and his side she came up to meet her face with his.

Cole's hand cupped her jaw before slowly bending her backwards until her head nearly touched the ground.

As the last notes filtered into silence he brought her back up to him, slowly as not to break the spell they had fabricated around themselves.

They stood there speechless, neither of them saying a word because there was  no need for them, they failed them both in that instant for only their expressions could speak of their emotion.

Claps broke the silence and the two jolted apart, leaving unwanted space between them.

A man and woman with two young children stood under the great wooden door, smiling and clapping in excitement.

The two children, a young boy and girl, scampered over to Cole, closing him in a monstrous hug.

"Cole where have you been!" The little boy shouted. "Missy and I were looking everywhere for you to play hopscotch with us, but you weren't here!"

Cole chuckled deeply and ruffled the boy's hair while holding the girl close. "Well James I'll make sure to invite you and Missy with me the next time I go to talk to a client, but if I hadn't gone I wouldn't have met this lovely lady right here now would I?"

The boy, James, popped his head up from his older brother's shoulder to take in the stranger that stood quietly unnoticed.

Missy took off from Cole's arms and straight into Liz's, she looked up into her face with big blue innocent eyes.

"Will you play hop scotch with us?" She asked hopefully, pouting to try and sway Liz's decision.

Liz mouth opened and closed for a few moments before she looked down into the child's face and smiled.

"How much could one game hurt?"
