Chapter 60
"Are you nervous about the match?" Ardeth asked Sherlyn as he tied her shoe laces.
Sherlyn shook her head in negative.
"I trust you, and I have a faith that you will win this tournament." Sherlyn smiled.
"Thank you, I will try by best to win this match and make you and Nugget proud." Ardeth said holding Sherlyn's hand, squatting infront of her.
"We love you." Sherlyn said kissing Ardeth's forehead. "You should go and get ready for the match now."
"You will be fine, right?" Ardeth asked worried.
"I will be, we still have 3 weeks due for the baby." Sherlyn informed.
"But still..."
"I will take care of her." James said walking towards them. "You go and play your game, I will make sure my Pumpkin and your Nugget are safe." He said wrapping his arm around Sherlyn's shoulder.
"Thank you James." Ardeth smiled and walked towards the changing rooms.
"Good job, Col..." Nick cheered as Colin successfully stopped the ball from entering the nets.
Collin grinned and blew a kiss towards Nick, making him blush.
"Aww... Those guys are so cute." Marcie gushed leaning against Johan. "I miss seeing you on the field, hot and sweaty."
"Just a few days, I will be joining the uni soccer team." Johan flicked his brow. "Till then you have to wait to see me in field, but as for hot and sweaty..."
"Shut up..." Marcie hissed as she looked at Zach, who was sitting with Dan and Tressa with a cotton candy in his hand.
Sherlyn gripped the chair as she watched Ardeth run around the field, looking for the chances to score the goals for the team.
"He will win the game today." James said holding Sherlyn's hand.
Sherlyn nodded her head as she looked at Ardeth.
Ardeth looked at Sherlyn, as much as she is trying to look cool, he can see her feeling stressed for the game. The game was a tough one, that both the teams are hardly letting the other team make a goal.
"Ardeth." Collin said running towards him and the team. "We have to score a goal this time, in order to win this game."
"And we can't let them make an another goal." Brian nodded.
"I will put my blood and sweat to stop the goals." Collin sweared.
"You are already doing an amazing job, champ." Ardeth patted Collin.
"Let's buckle up guys, we are going to win this game by hook or crook." Ardeth said with a seriousness of a soldier.
As the timer started the players began to run across the field.
"Come on, Colin." Nick shouted as the rival team member tried to make a goal.
Colin successfully dodged the ball and saved the goal.
"Come on, Ardeth." Dan shouted as the timer was running and Ardeth ran across the field to make the goal.
Ardeth looked at the timer, he doesn't have much time, he has to make a goal for his team to win this match, he wanted to make a goal to make his loved ones proud, this was his final chance to prove himself to the world.
He looked at Sherlyn and their baby, the girl who came into his life like a light and stood with him in his darkness. Dan, who trained and made his confident about the game. James and Nick, the family he never had and is blessed to have.
Ardeth took a deep breath, as he neared the goal, he looked at Sherlyn for one brief moment, before he kicked the ball towards the nets in an attempt to make the goal.
He watched the ball fly towards the nets, the goal keeper jumping the dodge the ball, and the ball flying and hitting the nets.
"It's a goal...." He heard the commentators cheer, as he closed his eyes and let the gravity pull him and the weight in his shoulders down, as his body hit the ground as tears of joy rolled down his cheeks.
"Rockstone college wins the tournament, Congratulations team, a wonderful winning goal from Ardeth Sky." The commentators cheered.
The team ran towards Ardeth lifting him up the ground and bouncing him in the air, as everyone began to celebrate their victory.
Ardeth watched Sherlyn cry in happiness as James hugged her. Dan watched him with a proud smile, while Nick danced around.
This, this minute, this moment, he had been waiting for, which felt like a lifetime. It felt surreal, how he felt that it's the end of his career and he would never be back in the form and would never see the people cheering for him again, and now at this moment, he felt light, light as a breeze. He dared to see, the dream of being a Soccer player again, the dream of making his family proud.
It's all phases, when you think it's the end of the world, you find a new chance, new dimension, new hope, new dream to live for, fight for and dare to dream for.
For Ardeth, it's the end of his down phase, it's just a start of many to come.
"I was scared." Ardeth confessed, as the walked into their room.
"That you wouldn't be able to make the goal?" Sherlyn asked as he helped her on to the bed.
"That, I would break your trust and hope, if I don't." He said, he didn't shy away from showing his vulnerability.
"I had a trust that you would win." Sherlyn smiled.
"Why?"
"You were no longer that aggressive Ardeth Sky, I saw on the field, today I saw a matured, calm and cool player, who motivated, lead and supported his team. Even though you were worried and scared deep down, you never let that affect your team members. I liked the person, you have transformed as, even though I would miss that aggressive, and ruthless Ardeth Sky, I met in the college corridors."
"Life taught me a lot of lessons in a span of an year, which I would remember for a life time." Ardeth said. "And it also gave me a family, that I have always wished for." He said holding Sherlyn's hand.
"Thank you Sherlyn, for being on my side, supporting me in my dark and cheering in my best. And loving me in every phase. I still wonder what good I have done in my life to have you in my life. And how I would have survived without you." Ardeth said looking at Sherlyn, "I love you now and forever."
"I love you, Ardeth." Sherlyn said with a smile.
"I know this is going to be sudden but I want this to happen now." Ardeth said and got on his knee. "Sherlyn Priestly, will you marry me?" He asked with hopeful eyes.
"Yes." Sherlyn cried and he slipped the ring onto her finger.
"Thank you." Ardeth said as he broke the kiss.
"What's so funny?" Ardeth asked as he heard Sherlyn chuckle as they lay in their bed.
"A year ago, I was chiding myself ,for I thought that the washroom would be my safe place at Maggie's party and now I am feeling glad for that, If I have headed back home, I would have never met you in all your glory."
"Do you know I gate crashed into that party." Ardeth asked as he remembered their first encounter.
"You did?" Sherlyn asked turning to face Ardeth in his arms.
"Yes, I planned to go for a soccer match that day, and I ended up at the party because my car had a flat tyre and Nick, who was supposed to drop me at the match took a stop at the party, and I met Brianna and we decided to have a quickie and you know the rest." Ardeth shook his head.
"I am glad that our paths crossed the way they are meant to be."
"It's Serendipity, Babe." Ardeth said kissing Sherlyn's temple, "And I am happy it happened, but please don't tell our kids about how we met eachother."
"No way I am depriving them from knowing the beginning of our story." Sherlyn laughed.
"You are not serious." Ardeth said looking at her in horror.
"I am damn serious." Sherlyn said, "I want our children to know and believe that this world is full of chances and you would never know when or how you would meet the person, who would become a big part in your life. I want them to believe in love and serendipity like we did. Not now but when they reach the age where they can understand the things I will tell them, how I met and started Loving the Sky."
