Chapter 46
"One Cookie dough icecream, and a chocolate tub." Sherlyn said to Ardeth, as he walked towards the icecream store.
"I know." Ardeth shook his head and walked towards the queue.
Sherlyn began to take a stroll along the lane, examining the neatly trimmed shrubs as she waited for Ardeth to join her.
"Well, well, whom do we have here?"
Sherlyn turned around fast as a light as she heard someone speak behind her.
"Tristan." Sherlyn said looking at Ardeth 's elder brother.
"Oh, you do remember the brother of your indigent, grief-stricken boy friend." Tristan remarked.
"What do you want?" Sherlyn said ignoring his comments.
"My brother." Tristan's answer was immediate, "If not for you he would have joined my father and I in the business, and would have been leading a luxurious life where he could have got everything at his beck and call. It's because of you, he is struggling and leading a poverty-stricken life. You are the reason for his struggles."
"You thought that Ardeth would come to you, if I wasn't there in his life?" Sherlyn questioned, "He left the home three years ago, I met him 10 months ago, you had two years to get him back, but you weren't able to. Don't blame me for your incapability."
"You..."
"Don't think you could come and blame me, and I would take your shit. I respect you as the elder brother of the person I love, don't lose it with your high-headed foolish behaviour." Sherlyn said, "If you had been a good brother, Ardeth wouldn't have left the home, you are a spineless man, who is scared of crossing your father's words. I am happy Ardeth isn't like you."
"How dare you!" Tristan shouted. "You are nothing but a gold-digger, who is trying to make your way to riches, using Ardeth as a bait; don't ever think that you and that bastard child of yours..."
Tristan was cut off by Ardeth, who punched on his face, making him stumble and go to the ground.
"One more word about the girl I love or our child, I would skin you alive , Tristan." Ardeth warned fisting his hands in a death grip. "I never wanted your riches or nor we will ever dream of it, we are better off without it. I atleast had a respect for you as my elder brother but today making such a loathing comments on a girl, you lost it."
"You are fool to let go of all the wealth to rot in the poverty for a good for nothing girl." Tristan dared to speak.
"I told you not to take a word against my girl." Ardeth growled pouncing on Tristan and punching him, as the latter unsuccessfully tried to punch Ardeth back.
"Ardeth...stop!" Sherlyn cried as she helplessly watched two men rain punches on eachother.
"What's happening here?" The security guards came running towards the fighting men, and pulled them apart.
"If I see you anywhere near my family, I will kill you." Ardeth said wiping the blood from the corner of his bruised lip.
"You are going to regret, what you did Ardeth." Tristan said as the security guard pulled him away, "You both are going to." He said looking at Sherlyn.
"Are you okay?" Ardeth asked Sherlyn.
"I should be the one asking you that." Sherlyn said touching Ardeth's bruised lip.
"It's not that as bad as what Tristan got." Ardeth smiled smugly, "That fucker's gonna have a black eye, which would remind him to never mess with my family."
"I am sorry for what happened." Sherlyn said sadly.
"He deserved that, and to be honest I wanted to do that for a long time, so I have no regrets." Ardeth smiled, "Anyways, leave about him we have more important things, like the melting icecream." He said pulling Sherlyn towards their car.
"I hope it didn't melt, I can't wait anymore to have an icecream." Sherlyn said as they walked towards the car.
"I hope so too, can't let my car get dirty." Ardeth hoped.
"Hey Jamie." Ardeth greeted Jamie as he walked inside the garage.
"Hey Ardeth." Jamie greeted from underneath the car, he was fixing.
"Tough day eh?" Ardeth asked picking up the tools from the cupboard.
"Pretty. This babe is a tough one, seems like the bugger who uses it doesn't know how to treat the babe properly." Jamie said.
"Yes, the brake shoes are in a pretty bad condition." Ardeth agreed as he worked on the brakes. "How long have you been working on it?"
"I have started my work early today, since my aunt is throwing a party which I have to attend tonight." Jamie informed. "I would be leaving early today."
"Cool, have fun at party."
"I wish I could find a hot chick but sadly it's my uncle's retirement party, so I can't hope." Jamie sighed.
"Who knows your uncle might have some very good friends who could bring along their pretty daughters or nieces." Ardeth wiggled his brows.
"Please, don't give me hopes!" Jamie laughed as he walked towards the table to keep his tools.
"Anyways, have fun at the party, I hope if not hot chicks, you can atleast find some delicious chicken, and mouth-watering dishes."
"Thank you." Jamie smiled, "I will leave after informing Mr.Scott, have a good day at work, Ardeth." He said and walked away towards Mr.Scott's cabin.
"What the fuck!" Ardeth cursed as he dropped the hammer down on his little toe, as the bell rang startling him, as he was working in silence, alone in the garage.
"Did this Scott man set his ass on fire?" Ardeth muttered as the bell went off again allowing him no time to worry about his little toe. "Since Jamie isn't here, I think it's me who has to put the fire extinguisher on his ass." He said walking towards the cabin.
"Enter." The gruff voice said as soon as he knocked on the door, allowing Ardeth to step inside Mr.Scott's office for the first time since he joined the garage.
Contrary to what he imagined, the small room looked clean and pristine, except for the chair in which Mr.Scott sat in with his head buried in a file he was looking at, and the wooden table infront of him, there wasn't any other furniture in the room.
The grey walls had several wooden photo frames hanging on them, which had the pictures of...
"Who are you?" Mr.Scott asked looking at Ardeth with a frown. "Where is Jamie?"
"I am Ardeth, I work in garage with Jamie, he went home early today." Ardeth answered.
"Right, I remember that now." Mr.Scott murmured and began to look into the drawers of his table.
Ardeth began to look around, while he stood awkwardly in the middle of the room in complete silence, the silence was so boring that the pile of trash in the corner of the room looked exciting to him.
"Did you understand?" Mr.Scott's voice brought back Ardeth out of his little daydream.
"Huh?"
"Hand these keys and the car to Mr.Mathew, the tall old man with a pointy moustache." Mr.Scott said.
"Okay, Mr.Scott." Ardeth said taking the keys that were sitting on the table.
"You can leave now." Mr.Scott said as he dipped his head into an another file, "Make sure to close the door behind you." Ardeth heard him say.
"I am so excited and happy for Marcie, I hope she says yes to Johan." Sherlyn said to Ardeth, as they layed in the bed together.
"I am sure, she's definitely gonna say yes." Ardeth said looking at the ceiling.
"Ardeth?" Sherlyn said turning in his arms, to look at him.
"Yes, baby."
"Is something wrong?" Sherlyn asked looking at him.
"Why did you ask so?" Ardeth raised his brow.
"Ever since you came home from work, you seemed to be in deep thoughts." Sherlyn pointed out. "Did something happen at work?"
"Oh, I am sorry, I didn't realise." Ardeth said turning around to hold Sherlyn.
"What's wrong?" Sherlyn probed.
"Today, Jamie left to home early, and Boss man called me inside his office to handover the keys. And when I was in his office, I saw something, but I am not sure whether it is what I think it is." Ardeth said furrowing his brows.
"What did you see?" Sherlyn asked as she smoothened the creases on his forehead, with her fingers.
"NSL trophy." Ardeth breathed out.
"What? A National Soccer League trophy!" Sherlyn asked lifting herself on her elbows.
"I am not sure, I saw only the rose gold star that sits at the top of the trophy, since it was peeking out of the pile of trash."
"Do you think, Mr.Scott could have stolen it from somewhere?" Sherlyn asked.
"I don't think so, he looks like a respectful man, except the fact he is a bit recluse." Ardeth sighed. "May be it's not what I think it is, it could be a fancy replica of the original." Ardeth shrugged.
"May be, who on earth would throw a prestigious trophy in the pile of trash." Sherlyn said and Ardeth nodded in agreement.
