Chapter 16

"Come." Ardeth said as he opened the door for Sherlyn.

"Where are we?" Sherlyn asked looking around the surroundings, except for the extent of land that she could see in the light of Ardeth's car's headlights, everything was faint and dark. With the moonlight shining above, she could see the silhouettes of the trees dancing to the winds like witches in dark, making her move closer to Ardeth.

"You will enjoy it, trust me." Ardeth said as he walked her with him.

"This is so beautiful..." Sherlyn said as she watched the sky, standing at the top of the cliff with Ardeth. The cliff over looked the beautiful suburbs, and forests surrounding them, creating a beautiful scenery.

"I know right." Ardeth said as he sat down at the edge of the cliff.

Sherlyn sat down beside Ardeth, as they watched the moonlit sky and stars in a pleasant silence.

"My mother ran away with her lover, when I was a kid." Ardeth said looking at the horizon.

Sherlyn turned her head to look at Ardeth surprised but she decided to keep her calm, and listen.

"I was young, and I had no idea of what was happening, even though Tristan tried his best to explain me." Ardeth let out a painful smile. "My father was the kind of person, who counts everything with money, he was always holed up in his office, and I was raised by the caretakers. They gave everything I want, except the thing I craved for; Love and attention. A person who can listen to me and support me, assure me and celebrate with me."

Sherlyn held Ardeth's hand as his eyes turned moist.

"I was passionate about Soccer, and wanted to build my career as a professional Soccer player. When I told my father, he laughed and warned me not to dream of silly things, since he wanted me to join his business. He said I should be his good son and obey him. I left my home as soon as I turned eighteen, did odd jobs to support myself for an year, trying hard to make the ends meet, life was tough. It was Nick's parents, who gave me a loan, so that I could join the college."

"I started college, I drank, got wasted, fucked girls, and did all the things that I am not proud of, but unfortunately they are a part of me." Ardeth sighed.

"What about your brother?" Sherlyn asked.

"Tristan is the ideal son that I never was to my father, he is helping my father in his business." Ardeth answered.

"You are not a bad boy." Sherlyn said looking at Ardeth, as her brown hair swayed gently to the beats of winds. "You are good boy, who did bad things. Everyone has a right to lead their life on their own terms, people make mistakes but not everyone can accept their faults."

"Thank you." Ardeth smiled.

"Do you come here often?" Sherlyn asked looking at the sky.

"Sometimes when I wanted to be alone."

"Then why did you bring me here?"

"Because I don't want to be alone." Ardeth said, "Anymore." He whispered to himself.

"It's so nice here," Sherlyn said taking a deep breath closing her eyes, "The fresh unpolluted air..." She opened her eyes and saw Ardeth trying to light the cigarette, he was holding between his lips.

Sherlyn scrunched her face, Ardeth sighed, and pushed the cigarette inside his pocket.

"Thank you." Sherlyn kissed his cheek and leaned her head on his shoulder.

Ardeth wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him as they silently watched the star lit sky together.

"Johan is throwing a party at his farm house this weekend." Ardeth said as they drove back to the city.

"I know, I am invited." Sherlyn answered.

"You knew?" Ardeth said in confusion, "Oh yes, Johan's girl is your cousin." He spoke again as he realised.

"Her name is Marcie!"

"Sorry, I tend to forget her name." Ardeth said sheepishly. "So, I guess you will be there for the weekend then."

"Yes, Marcie wouldn't let it happen the other way." Sherlyn laughed.

"Is she going to drive you till there?"

"No, Nick and I have plans on Saturday, so we will be driving there together." Sherlyn informed.

"Okay." Ardeth said as he continued driving.

"You are not following slow and steady rule today." Sherlyn remarked.

"You complained about sore muscles, the last time." Ardeth reminded as he stopped his car a few yards across from Sherlyn's home.

"Good night." Sherlyn said as she got down the car.

"Good night." Ardeth said as he waited for her to get inside the home.

"I loved those Tacos, we should visit that place again." Sherlyn said to Nicholas.

"I would be forever ready for food."  Nick said as they were on their way to spend the weekend at Johan's farm house.

"Do you think there gonna be a lot of people?" Sherlyn asked as she turned down the volume of the radio.

"I think so, since Johan invited all the team members."

"Great." Sherlyn let out a bored sigh, "I don't like parties."

"Don't worry I will keep you entertained." Nick smiled, "And Ardeth is also there." He teased.

"Shut up." Sherlyn blushed.

"I still am surprised that he opened up to you." Nick said in wonder.

"It felt good to know about him, and he told, how you and your parents had his back during his bad times."

"That's not totally true." Nick said, "After we completed our high school, I went cruising with my parents, wandering around for an year, I had no contact with Ardeth for one year, where he walked out of his home. He went through the hardships all by himself, and when I came back I searched for him and found him working at a garage, I offered him help but he declined, as he wanted to earn his own money, but when my mother coaxed him that he could repay it once he gets a steady income he agreed. After he joined the college, he repaid the money even though we never asked him about it."

"He didn't tell me that."

"I still regret for not being there for him." Nick sighed sadly.

"But you still are a great friend anyone could ask for." Sherlyn said bumping Nick's arm with her fist. "Even though you can be a pain in neck at times." She stuck her tongue out.

"I am not a pain in neck." Nick shoved Sherlyn stopping his car, and they began to shove eachother, until they were stopped by an another car honking behind them.

"Move aside fucker." The boy shouted, making Nick realise he is blocking the way.

Nick drove his car inside the gates of Johan's farm house. And as soon as they entered inside the large black gates, they saw Johan's friends and team mates standing in the garden, some chasing and running around, while the others were engaged in conversations, and drinking beers.

"Seems like he invited the whole college." Nick mumbled as they got down the car taking their over night bags.

"Seems so." Sherlyn said looking around, searching for Ardeth.

"He's there." Nick bumped Sherlyn's shoulder with his, as he pointed at the farthest corner of the garden, where Ardeth was standing under the tree smoking, dressed in jeans and a tight black button up shirt that was folded till the elbows, and top two buttons left open.

"I..."

"I will keep the bags inside, you go and meet him." Nick said taking the bag from Sherlyn and walked inside without waiting for her answer.

"Hi." Sherlyn said as she walked towards Ardeth.

"Hi." Ardeth said and took a long puff, "How was your outing with Nick." He inquired.

"It was great, we had the best Tacos." Sherlyn grinned.

"Hmm... Seems like I missed some great food." Ardeth smiled as he grinded the cigarette under his shoe.

"Why are you guys still in the garden, we thought the party would have started already." Sherlyn asked looking at Farmhouse.

"We were about to start, but the boys were playing dodge ball and ended up landing the ball on the cake, Johan was bringing in."

"That's bad."

"Yeah, but thankfully Johan saved most of it." Ardeth said, "Venus and Johan are trying to fix it in the kitchen."

"Venus?" Sherlyn asked confused.

"Venus, your cousin, Johan's girl." Ardeth frowned in confusion.

"Her name's Marcie." Sherlyn dead-panned shaking her head, as Ardeth looked away embarassed.

"I am going inside to help her." She said as she made her way inside.
