Chapter 8- The Shadow
Clark-
I awoke the next morning to sunlight streaming down on my face. I still laid in the hay naked, but Rose had somehow disappeared. Frowning to myself, I sat up and tried to rub the sleep out of my eyes. I wondered how she had managed to get away with out me feeling or hearing her.
Getting up to my feet, I quickly found my shirt and pants and slipped them back on. I allowed myself to float down to the ground and then made my way back to the house. As I entered the kitchen, I was greeted by my mother cooking a delicious breakfast of biscuits and gravy. It smelled wonderful.
"Rough night?" she asked as she sent me an 'all knowing' grin.
My eyebrows knitted together as I looked at her in confusion.
"Huh?"
Setting down her wooden spoon, she walked over to me and pulled a piece of hay out of my hair.
Instantly a blush crept up my cheeks as she handed it to me. I rubbed the back of my neck and smiled down at her sheepishly.
"Well, I just hope you used protect-"
"Oh- god, Mom," I cut her off.
"We don't use the name of the Lord in vain in this house, young man," she scolded as she waged her finger at me.
I threw my hands up in defense and slowly backed out of the kitchen before turning around to see Rose standing at the top of the stairs. My heart nearly broke in two as she descended, dressed in her work clothes and dragging her carry on behind her. When she finally stepped down, she met my gaze with an apologetic look in her eyes.
"You're leaving?" My voice nearly cracked as I spoke.
She nodded her head as she looked away from me. "Perry called," she finally said. "Apparently he's letting Lois and I off probation a week early."
"Well, you're at least going to stay for breakfast, aren't you?" My mother suddenly said as she appeared next to me.
"I'm sorry, Mrs Kent. I can't," Rose apologized. "My flight leaves in two hours and you know how it is with the TSA and stuff-" she trailed off.
"Give me a second to go get changed and I'll take you," I said.
"No, really. That's ok. I don't want to burden anyone-"
But with my super speed, I had left and returned, fully clothed, before she even had a chance to finish her sentence.
Her luggage in tow, I placed my hand in the middle of her lower back and guided her towards the front door.
"Let's go."

The ride to the airport was awkwardly silent and the entire time I replayed last night over and over in my head. Had I hurt her again? Did I do something wrong?
We finally arrived, and I drove into the empty parking garage. I pulled into a spot and killed the engine, but neither of us bothered to move.
"Last night," I paused, "did I do something wrong?" I finally asked breaking the silence.
"What?" her head snapped towards me. "No! Not at all," she replied.
I let out a huge sigh of relief as I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Why would you think that?" she asked, grasping my large hand with both of hers. I smiled slightly at the drastic size difference between them. Just one of my hands practically dwarfed hers.
"Well, I- I've" I hesitated for a moment. What I was about to say was rather embarrassing. "I've never had a girlfriend before," I blurted.
There I'd said it. No taking it back now.
"What?" she chuckled. "Never?"
I shook my head.
"But, you're so perfect-"
"I'm not perfect," I frowned, cutting her off.
"Yes you are," she whispered as she ran her fingers through my hair.
"The truth is," I said, clearing my throat, "I've always been kind of a loner. An outcast," I told her. "And I thought that maybe that's why you we're leaving so suddenly."
"Oh. God, Clark. No."
She slid closer to me on the bench seat and caressed my cheek with her thumb. Her big amber colored eyes looked up at me with sadness. God she was gorgeous- I absolutely could not let her go.
"Stay with me," I begged.
With one arm wrapped around her waist, I easily pulled her on top of me. Her dress hiked up as she straddled my lap and immediately I could feel a stirring in my pants. As I nuzzled her neck, my hands roamed over her body, slowly making their way down to her arse. She jumped at my touch on her bare skin and I growled huskily into her ear.
"You're not wearing any-" I trailed off unable to complete my thoughts. Now fully hard, my passion throbbed painfully, straining against it's confines.
"Panty lines," she rasped as her teeth raked against my neck. Grabbing hold of her hips, I ground her into me and was rewarded with a breathy moan.
The windows began fogging up as we panted heavily against eachother. I looked up at her, eagerly biting down on her lower lip as she struggled to get my shirt off. Once removed, she immediately began peppering my chest and neck with sweet little kisses. As she rocked her hips back and forth, my desire for her threatened to burst out of my pants. I could hear her heart thundering in her chest and I was desperate to please her. A satisfying smile ghosted my lips as her forehead suddenly slumped against mine and her lips whimpered my name as her entire body shook with pleasure. I might not be able to keep her with me, but I'd be damned if she would forget me.

I stared out the window while I washed the last of the dinner dishes. I still couldn't believe that just a few hours ago I had let the love of my life get on a plane and fly half way across the country.
"I will see you again, right?" I asked as I tightened my grip around her waist.
"Yeah, of course," she said, mumbling into my chest. Her hands fisting my shirt as she pulled me closer.
"Then why does this feel like 'Goodbye'?"
My hands balled into fists the more I thought about it and I had to take great care not to accidentally break anything from my strength. I felt empty inside and possibly something else that I had never felt before-
Pain.
That's it, I needed a beer. Grabbing one out of the fridge, I popped the top and took a swig as I walked over to the living room. I was just about to sit down and watch the football game when my mom suddenly called to me from outside.
"Yeah, coming," I called back and hurried out the door.
She seemed frozen in fear and I followed her gaze to a bright light orbiting in the sky. With my enhanced vision I was able to see that whatever it was, it wasn't human. With a loud pop the lights went out everywhere and the entire world was plunged into darkness.
"You are not alone. You. Are. Not. Alone. You are not alone. You. Are. Not. Alone."
Suddenly from back inside the house, we could hear some sort of transmission being broadcasted across the TV.
Just as I walked inside, the transmission changed and all I could make out were shadowy images on the screen.
"My name is General Zod," the figure said. "And I come from a world far from yours. I have journeyed across an ocean of stars to reach you."
"For some time your world has sheltered one of my citizens. I request that you return this individual to my custody. For reasons unknown, he has chosen to keep his existence a secret from you. He will have made efforts to blend in. He will look like you, but he is not one of you."
As the shadow spoke, I turned to look at my mother who had entered the room. Without a doubt, we both knew the figure was talking about me.
"To those of you who may know of his current location, the fate of your planet rests in your hands. To Kal-El, I say this. Surrender within twenty-four hours, or watch this world suffer the consequences."
The message ended and all the lights suddenly turned back on. The surge in electricity caused the light bulb behind us to shatter and my mother jumped, screaming in terror. I wrapped my arms around her in comfort, but as I turned over this Zod character's message in my head, there was only one thing on my mind-
Rose.
