Guilty Party

Aiden ignores me. "Grant and I were hanging out at my place, and he threw back a handful of pills, turned pale, hit the ground and went unconscious."

I feel myself shaking just thinking about it. "Where was Alec?"

Aiden laughs bitterly. "He was too busy crying in his room to show up or answer his phone. Apparently you and Vanessa were busy too." He hesitates before continuing. "Do you have any idea how freaking scary that was? I was alone, watching my friend die and having no idea what to do."

"Aiden, I am so sorry! I swear I didn't see your call! I can't imagine how terrible that must've been."

Adien stays silent as the elevator doors open. "Grant is still unconscious, but you can go see him if you want." He points to a room as he walks away.

"Okay, thank you." I say to Aiden's back.

I want to continue this conversation with Aiden, but first I need to see Grant. I try to prepare myself for what I'm about to see, but no amount of preparing makes seeing your loved one lying unconscious in a hospital gown easier.

I grab his limp hand. "Grant, it's me Rinnie. I just wanted to let you know that I am here, okay? It's going to be okay." I start tearing up, but do my best to stay strong for Grant. They say your hearing is the last to go, so he may be able to hear me right now.

I hold Grant's hand and talk to him for hours until Aiden comes back in the room. "You're still here?"

"Of course, you didn't seriously think I'd leave him like this did you?"

He shrugs "I don't know."

I take his hand and pull him out of Grant's room. "Aiden, you never answered my question earlier. Why are you mad at me?"

"I'm not mad, I'm hurt." He says angrily.

I wasn't expecting him to say that. "Please, talk to me."

He moves away. "Don't pretend you actually care."

"I do."

"Really because you could've fooled me. Ever since all you guys started dating, I don't think any of you even remember I exist."

I look up, trying to figure him out. "Grant was hanging out with you tonight."

He runs a hand through his hair. "He wanted to talk to Alec, see how he's doing."

"He wasn't there for you?"

He doesn't even process my question. "Why did you guys all decide to date?" He looks at me, distraught. "There's a reason why we agreed not to do that. No one even considered how I would feel about it. I am alone while all my supposed friends are going out on double dates. I mean think about it, when was the last time we all hung out?" He wipes his eyes with the back of his hand.

I run over and hug him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Aiden. "You're right, we've been selfish. I promise that we never forgot about you though! I am so sorry Aiden."

He shifts away from me. "Just please stop excluding me, that s**t hurts."

"Never again, I swear."

As he goes to leave, a familiarly unpleasant voice pierces my ears. "Aiden, where is your brother?"

Aiden refuses to look at her. "If you find out let me know. He's been avoiding my calls."

"I need to talk to him, it's really important."

I am on her before she finishes her sentence. "Why are you here and why on earth do you think you have the right to talk to Alec?"

She pops a diva hip. "I followed your vehicle, hoping to find some answers."

I get in her face, completely fed up. "When you saw me pulling into the hospital you thought it was appropriate place to harass me?"

"This is very important!" She looks everywhere but at me. "Why are you here anyway?"

"To throw a party." I spit.

Tricia suddenly looks serious. "Really, why are you here?"

Aiden steps in. "It's a little late to ask that question now."

"I deserve to know. I was once close with a few people in your little crew."

I raise my hand to hit her and she cowards away. "Don't hit me, I'm pregnant!"

"What?!" Aiden gasps.

I lower my hand. "Don't listen to her, she's a compulsive liar."

"No, it's true! I can prove it." She reaches into her coat and pulls out a pregnancy test. Aiden rips it out of her hand.

His face loses color as he reads it. "There's no way."

"I told you." She says feebly. "How am I supposed to tell Liam?"

I chuckle. "You mean Liam isn't the father? I'd be happy to tell him for you."

Aiden squats down next to her. "Whose baby is this?"

"Alec's."

I smirk. "Yeah, okay."

Aiden keeps talking like he believes her. "How do you know it's not Grant's? You realize you were sleeping with two men around the same time, right?"

Just as he asks that I watch Grant's lookalike enter his room wearing scrubs.

I storm after him. "What are you doing?!"

He gives me an impatient smile. "My job if you don't mind."

"Absolutely not, no." I stand between him and Grant.

"I'm his doctor Zephie." He tries to get past me, but I stand my ground.

You've got to be kidding me? "Doctor? I'm pretty sure you're his enemy."

He burst into laughter. "We're not in middle school anymore, there's no such thing."

"Ugh, you're such a jerk!"

He lifts me up and moves me out of his way. "Please leave the room, you're distracting me."

I crawl on top of Grant. "If I say no?"

The man with Grant's face attempts to get me off of Grant. "In that case, I'd be forced to call security and have you removed. "

I crawl off of Grant. "Fine, I'll stop but I'm not leaving."

"Whatever."

He walks over and opens Grant's frozen eyes, shining a light on them.

"What are you doing?" I question him.

He gives me an annoyed look. "Assessing my patient."

"Why do you guys hate each other?"

He continues his assessment. "Who says I hate anyone?"

"Well, you are stalking him." I point out.

He smirks. "I'm not stalking him."

I make a face at him. "Then how do you always magically appear where he is?"

"Magic, I guess." He teases.

I groan. "I can't stand you."

"Awe, you're going to make me cry Zephie." He makes an exaggerated pouty face.

"Hey, I've been getting into the habit of b**ch slapping people, don't push your luck. The only reason I haven't hit you yet is because you're not worth more jailtime."

He makes a fake scared face. "You're so tough and intimidating."

"Shut up you're just a knock off version of Grant!"

He heads to the door. "Tell him that, he'll love it. He's going to wake up soon."

Before I can ask anymore questions, he leaves.

Sure enough, Grant is awake within 10 minutes.

"What the??" He grabs his head.

"Grant!" I run over and hug him. "You're okay!"

He squeezes me back, laughing awkwardly. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"You're in a hospital. You overdosed while you were hanging out with Aiden."

He sighs. "That's explains why I feel like I've been hit by a bus. I freaking hate Narcan."

"You've had Narcan before?" I asked, shocked.

Grant starts messing with his hospital gown. "Who stripped me?"

"Aiden was here with you, maybe he did?" I offer, despite my frustration with him for avoiding my question.

"Gross. Can I get out of here?"

I shake my head. "Not really, you literally just overdosed."

He shrugs. "I won't drive."

"Doesn't make me feel better. Can you at least wait until they clear you?"

Grant throws himself back on the bed. "No, I know my rights. I'm signing out AMA."

"Please don't." I beg him.

"I'm sorry Rinnie, I hate hospitals."

I sigh. "Why?"

"Well, it all started when I was born in one."

"Stop. I'll ask your nurse."

He smiles. "Thank you, Rinnie."

His nurse said that he seems stable, but he shouldn't be alone tonight if he goes home. I let Aiden know I'm taking Grant home and thank him for his help. He told me that he got ahold of the others and will tell them not to come in. Thankfully Tricia left. Aiden and I made plans to get the whole group together for a surprise vacation next month in order to reconnect with each other. I am very happy Aiden and I talked.

Aiden helps me get Grant into the car and tells me to call him if I need anything. I am grateful for that offer because I'm nervous to take care of Grant tonight, he's the worst patient ever. I already know he's not going to listen to a word I say.
