Chapter 5 - Ice Cream
Chloe takes a seat opposite me and looks at me expectantly, sipping on her juice.
"Well?" She asks impatiently, raising a brow at me.
"I've been.. I'm..--"
"Oh! Spit it out, Daniels!"
"I've been talking to Jesse" I blurt out then want to take it all back again but I can't because Chloe's mouth was hanging open and she was now standing.
After a while she came back to her senses and sat back down, her eyes never leaving mine.
"Wow. So what do you mean you've been talking?" She asks curiously, leaning forward.
After explaining the whole situation to her, she was on the edge of her seat by the time I was finished.
"Okay. That's the whole story" I say, leaning back into the chair.
"Wow. Just wow. And you get to see him and talk to him every afternoon. Oh my gosh, I would melt" she says, clasping her hands together with a gigantic smile on her face.
"Um yeah, okay. Weirdo. Let's go back inside, I'm still hungry" I tell her as I stand and make my way back indoors. Glad she's taking it well. It'll take a while for her to finally realise what my dad was saying is true. Until then I'll just wait and try not to burst out laughing. I love this blonde.

We spent the rest of the day watching movies and shoving our faces with junk food. Valerie sat there and cringed as Chloe and I opened more than two huge packets of chips into a large bowl. Mom made us some dip to go with our chips and it was so good. I offered some to Val but she declined, stood up and walked out of the room. Soon as she left, Chloe and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. My sister is ridiculous. I swear she is.
Its now past 5pm and Chloe's mom just called and said she needed to be home. We cleared the coffee table and wiped it clean before making our way out. Chloe said goodbye to mom and Valerie and I grabbed my jacket, seeing as I'm walking her home and it's chilly right now.
We walked in silence past a few houses before Chloe spoke up.
"You know, you two would make a good pair. I mean, if things don't work out with Lyla" she says, smiling at me.
"You're joking, right? Aren't you forgetting the fact that we don't really get along? I kind of hate him" I answer back.
"Oh! Come on, Rose. It's been years. Just forget what happened" Chloe says cheerfully, shoving at my shoulder.
"Whatever" I mumble, clearly feeling uncomfortable with the mention of what happened in the past.
After that question, Chloe didn't say much. We walked in silence till we got to her house. Zed, her elder brother was outside, sitting in his car. He looked at us and smirked. We both rolled our eyes at him before making our way up the stairs to her front door.
"I'll text you tomorrow" Chloe says, giving me a hug.
"Sure" I reply, heading back down the stairs.
As I pass Zed's car, he pops his head out the window to say something.
"Hey Daniels, need a ride?"
"No thanks, Zed. I'd rather walk" I shout, clearly not interested in getting into his car.
"Suit yourself. I'm heading that way, though" He answers back.
"Well get going!" I shout before making my way home.
Few seconds later, Zed drives past me and just like he said, he was making his way towards our street.
I shove Chloe's earphones on and plug in my phone, trying to clear my head. I have homework to do and some last minute assignments. High school is no joke. I feel like passing out as I think of the pile of books waiting for me at home.
Ten minutes later, I'm a few houses away from home. I remove the earphones and shove them in my pocket before crossing the street. Just as I pass the Matthers' house, a familiar voice calls out to me.
"Rose! I was just about to come over" Jesse says, eyeing me up and down.
I suddenly feel uncomfortable so I cross my arms infront of my chest and begin walking towards our driveway.
"What for? I said I'll talk to Lyla" I tell him, confused as to why he was now following me home.
"Well, I thought we could get to know each other. We've been neighbors for ages but we haven't really gotten past being acquaintances" Jesse says, grabbing my arm.
I whip my head back and look at where his hand gripped my arm. I look up at him and he slowly removes his hand and scratches his head. Okay, awkward.
"Can we do it some other time? I have homework" I tell him, trying to ignore the fact that my heart was pounding in my chest.
"Leave that for tomorrow. I thought maybe we could go out" He says with a dashing smile.
So this is the smile that the girls would die for. Ha! And look at me, clearly immune to it. I'm not even reacting how he thought I would. Silly boy!
"Out where?" I question him.
"Out for. .Ice-cream, maybe?" He replies, raising an eyebrow at me.
I stood there and thought over my options. I could go start on my homework, like I was supposed to. Or I could get some yummy mint choc-chip ice cream with Jesse. I feel like the ice-cream is calling me. Yep. It is.
"Fine. Give me ten minutes" I groan, before making my way inside.
"Yes!" Jesse replies enthusiastically, grinning at me.
I can't help but smile as I rush upstairs to get changed. The thought of getting ice-cream with Jesse made me feel giddy and I don't know why.
