Chapter 34 - Two Days Away

Rosalie's P.O.V

A beautiful Thursday morning. I sit by my window, crunching into an apple. What I do on most mornings before heading to school. Two days away from the biggest night of the year and I'm not even a tad bit excited. Sounds silly, huh? The one who came up with the perfect theme now despises the thought of homecoming.

I walk over to my closet and look at my dress. I run my hand over the soft material and sigh. When I got this dress I was extremely excited about wearing it. I pulled it out and held it up against me. I moved infront of the mirror and saw my reflection. The dress was beautiful and it would've made anyone who wore it feel beautiful too.

"Can't wait to see you in it on Saturday" Valerie says happily, appearing at my door.

I look at her and roll my eyes, annoyed that she was watching me. I put the dress back in the closet then shut it.

"Why the long face?" She asks, taking a seat on my bed. I walk over and sit beside her.

"I don't feel like going" I reply honestly. I mean, hey, no point in lying right?

"Are you insane?!" Valerie exclaims, her eyes wide in shock. "You can't be serious."

"I am serious. I'm not even nervous or excited. I feel....nothing" I tell her, staring at the soda stain on the carpet.

"Rose, listen. You have to go. Don't stay home just because of Jesse. If he wants to ruin his best night of high school, let him. But you do you, and show up. You guys worked hard to put this thing together, don't throw it all away" Val tells me and I swear it's the best advice she's ever given in her life.

"You're absolutely right. I'm being silly" I say, chuckling at myself.

"Go out and have a good time. You deserve it, sis" she tells me, before pulling me in for a tight hug.

"Okay! That's enough!" I struggle to get out, as she squishes me even more.

I hopped in the car and waited for dad. Few minutes later, he appeared with his briefcase in one hand and a sandwich in the other. A permanent scowl plastered on his face. I looked down at my lap and chuckled quietly, he looked like he was late. Again.

"You know, since you're gonna be working with Mr. Matthers now, you should consider leaving earlier" I tell him and watch as he pays no attention to what I just said. As usual.

"Shut up and buckle up" He says with a full mouth, chewing the remainder of his sandwich.

I quickly put on my seat belt before we pulled out of the driveway. Let's just say after my talk with Val, I didn't wanna die today. Dad switched the radio on to something classic and we remained silent for most of the way, both appreciating eighty's music.

Dad pulled up outside school at half past seven and I exhaled loudly. I wish this week would just end already.

"Hey" He calls out as I exit the car. "Have a good day, kiddo."

I smile and give him a nod.

"You too, old man" I respond, before moving quickly away from the car. He hated it when I called him old man. He stayed parked while I walked along the path, heading straight for the stairs. I turned around to see him driving slowly, heading towards me.

Please don't do anything stupid, dad. There's heaps of students standing around the entrance.

I look down and try to walk a little faster, trying to escape the humiliation that's coming.

"Rosalie! Wait! You forgot your tampons" dad shouted from the car, causing my face to turn bright red.

I turned to see him holding up a white paper bag, and a huge grin on his face.

"You know, I almost thought we had something here. I thought we were cool, dad" I called back furiously.

I was now boiling with anger and he knew it. Within seconds, he burst out laughing and tossed the paper bag out the window before driving off. I rushed over to pick it up and dropped it in the nearest bin.

"This by far is the worst day of my life" I say out loud, making my way past the stares and laughter, all the way inside.

I stayed in the library for half  the day, just until the laughter had died down. Turns out, everytime someone saw me, they immediately began laughing. It was so annoying. I texted Chloe to sneak my lunch in here so I wouldn't have to leave.

It's past twelve and she's not here yet. I begin to wonder how far this girl had gone to grab lunch. Just as I'm about to skip lunch and take a nap, I hear voices from downstairs. One of them sounding like Chloe's.

I walk over to the railing and see that Chloe was by the entrance, talking to Fran. Well, more like arguing. I could tell from up here.

"Please Francine, just this once" Chloe pleads, giving her puppy dog face to Fran who wasn't buying any bullshit.

"I'm sorry but as you can clearly see on that notice board, no food allowed" Fran fired back, taking her job seriously.

"Fine" Chloe says, rolling her eyes. "Can I leave my bag here? I'm heading upstairs."

Fran nods curtly and goes back to typing on her computer. Chloe spots me and gives me a cheeky wink before handing her bag over to Fran.

"Here you go" she says smartly.

Fran takes Chloe's bag and places it behind her before handing her a number.

"Wait a minute, what's that in your hand?" Fran asks as Chloe tries to walk away.

"Just my book bag, chill!" Chloe answers, before continuing up the staircase.

I walk back to my seat and laugh as Chloe approaches me, a huge grin on her face.

"Thank you" I tell her, accepting my lunch which was hidden inside her small book bag.

"Oh the things I do for you. You owe me big time" she tells me, leaning back into the seat opposite mine.

I happily gobbled down my fries and cheeseburger, not even saying a word to Chloe. She on the other hand was swamped with papers infront of her.

"I feel like you're turning into my dad. Everytime I see you, you're either stressed or have papers up to your nose" I tell her, finishing off the last of my burger.

"I know right!" She replies, running a hand through her hair. "I can't wait to get this weekend done and over with. This job as head of the committee is no joke."

"You shouldn't have accepted it. Lyla should be the one running around for everything, not slacking off" I tell her, meaning every word.

"True, but according to Principal Montgomery,  she had a good reason to" Chloe informs me, scanning through some papers.

I sat and wondered what it could've been. What's her problem? I wanted to text her or talk to her somehow, but I wasn't sure if we were still friends. I also wasn't sure whether she found out that Jesse made me befriend her in desperate attempts to get her back.

"Rose?!" Chloe half shouts, waving a hand infront of my face.

"Huh? What?" I blurt out, shaking my head. I must've zoned out for a bit.

"Sara and I will come over to your place to get ready on Saturday. Is that okay?" She asks, collecting her papers off the table.

"Um yeah, that's totally fine. No problem" I replied, standing from my seat.

"Are you finally gonna leave this place?" Chloe asks, standing up as well.

"Yeah, I'm gonna go hide out in my space" I tell her, giggling. She shakes her head before linking my arm in hers as we walk down the stairs.

It was almost one o'clock when I hurriedly made my way over to my space. Even though the place was cleared out, the chair was still there and it had air-conditioning. Perfect.

I leaned back in my comfortable  swivel chair and closed my eyes, hoping time would pass by faster. I had about an hour and a half before school ended and I was eager to take a good nap here.

I shut my eyes and took a deep breath. Finally, some peace and quiet.

"Knock, knock" a husky voice calls out, disturbing my 'me' time.

"Ugh, what?" I snap in annoyance, spinning around to see who it was.

"I'm sorry if I'm disturbing. I can come back later" Jesse says, pointing out the door.

"No, it's fine" I quickly blurt out, gesturing for him to step inside. He strides towards me and takes a seat, his eyes never leaving mine.

Um, okay. We're doing that now? Cool. I don't mind.

"So...What's up?" I decide to ask, wondering why he's even here. I'm not exactly doing this job anymore.

Jesse taps his fingers nervously on the table, still staring at me. I slouch back in my chair and cross my arms, anxious but slightly annoyed with his tapping. When he doesn't answer my question, I decide to start the conversation.

"Aw, you came here just to see me? I feel so special" I exclaim.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever" Jesse replies, grinning at me. He leans forward and licks his lips, about to say something. Or maybe he has said something and I was just too distracted to hear it. Damn.

"Honestly, I just came here to laugh. I heard about what your dad did this morning. Hilarious!" Jesse explains before bursting out in a fit of laughter right infront of me.

Wow.

I sighed loudly and shook my head. I thought it was something useful. Disappointed, I decided it was better to get rid of him now.

"Okay, when you're done with your little laughing fest, you can kindly get out" I tell him, pointing at the door. I swing in my chair to face the wall again, trying to resume my nap.

"Oh come on! Okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry" Jesse pleads, trying to hide the laughter in his voice.

I roll my eyes then turn to face him again. This time I was dead serious. I felt so serious that I could blurt out how bad I wanna be with him and not regret it one bit. I could confess how much I'm into him then dip, leaving him here, stunned. I could jump into his arms right now and just kiss him.

"I'm sorry" Jesse says with a smile. "I won't bring it up again."

"Yeah, if you wanna remain friends, it's best you do just that" I say sternly. Guess I'm in quite the mood today.

"Well, I actually don't have a reason for coming here, to be honest" He tells me, looking right at me again.

"So...you just wanted to see me?" I ask, as quiet as a mouse, feeling a little uncertain. Did he really say that? What's happening here?

"Yeah" Jesse simply replies, leaning back and shoving his hands in his jacket pockets. A smug look on his face.

His face.

"Hey, your eyes, they're fully green now" I blurt out, noticing that his irises had changed from how they were when we first started hanging out. I moved infront a little, just to get a better look.

Jesse suddenly leans forward, leaving only inches between our faces. I gulped immediately,  feeling nervous and flustered at the same time. It was a weird feeling indeed.

"So what do you think? Does green look good on me?" He asks, wiggling his eyebrows at me.

"Well I-I liked the brown..but I-I guess green looks good too. Yeah" I stuttered horribly, making an even bigger fool of myself infront of him.

The embarrassment from this morning was currently leveled with how I feel now. Guess I'll make the most of my shitty day and finally tell Jesse how I feel.

Here goes nothing.
