Chapter 19 - Drama

Everyone stared as Lyla walked in and sat down at a booth on the opposite end of the restaurant. I turned and looked at Jesse, curious as to how he was feeling. I was hoping he was slowly getting over her, but the look on his face says otherwise.
I clear my throat, making all of them turn back this way.

"I wonder why she didn't come to school yesterday. She looks fine to me" Sara says, furrowing her brows in Lyla's direction.

"Guys, I'll be right back" Jesse tells us with an uneasy look. He stands and makes his way over to Lyla. Just as I expected.

I turned around and watched as he strode across the restaurant, eager to speak to Lyla. A part of me wished he was over her, or at least enough to sit still and ignore her presence. I turned back and sipped my coke, feeling a little bummed.

"Ooh! Shit's about to go down, a guy just got out of Lyla's car" Sara exclaims, looking outside.

Oh no.

I turned and saw the guy Sara was talking about, come and stand behind Jesse. From here we couldn't hear much but it sure looked like Jesse and Lyla were arguing. The guy that came with Lyla looked older than us, I'm guessing he's in college. He pushed Jesse away, probably telling him to leave, but Jesse grabbed him by his collar and said something back.

His face was red with anger and he looked like he could punch this guy. I wonder what's going on. I wanted to go over there and break it up but I'm not sure if it should be me so I sent Zed over instead.

Zed goes over and grabs Jesse's arm, slowly taking him away from them. Jesse nods and steps away, still boiling with anger. He yanks his arm away from Zed soon as they get a few steps away.

I turned back around thinking that was the end of their argument until Chloe gasps in suprise, almost falling out of the booth.

"What?!" I exclaim before turning around again to see Jesse repeatedly punching that guy's face as Zed and some other guys try to get him to stop.

"Oh my gosh!" I gulp, sliding out of the booth with my hand covering my mouth. I've never seen Jesse this mad before. Whatever that guy said to him must have really struck a nerve.

The manager of the pizzeria comes out of the back and tells everyone to clear out. Lyla abruptly stands and heads for the restroom, wiping a few tears as she makes her way there.

I'm itching to go check on her. She looks really upset. So upset that she's crying.

I follow her into the restroom and stand by the door as she stands over the washbasin, trying to control her heavy breathing.

"Lyla, are you okay?" I ask in a low tone, not sure if she wants to talk to anyone right now. She turns to me in an instant and a look of surprise washes over her tear stained face. She almost looked embarrassed. I could tell because she was struggling to hide the fact that she was crying.

"Oh, Rosalie, I didn't know you were here" she replies, trying to sound okay. She even tries to give me a fake smile but I know something is definitely up.

I walk over to her and put a hand on her shoulder, which makes her cry even more. Oh gosh. Next thing I know I'll be crying too.

"So, what happened out there?" I ask her, handing her a tissue.

She takes it and begins fixing her face, looking up at the mirror a couple of times. Her breathing has calmed down abit from when I stepped in.

"I - I didn't know Jesse would be here. He hardly hangs out here. He's always at the gym on Saturdays. I was so surprised when he came over. I - I just -"

"Did you two have an argument? Was it about him wanting to get back together again?"

"No, no, nothing like that. It was the opposite actually. I was trying to end our conversation before Brian came in but I failed and they exchanged some words and-" Lyla explains, beginning to tear up again.

"And Jesse found out that you've moved on? Is that it?" That's not too dramatic. Why the big scene?

Lyla looks at me and chuckles lightly, shaking her head. She runs a hand through her perfect blonde hair, looking at herself in the mirror.

"He found out that I moved on before we even broke up" she tells me before throwing her tissues in the trash and walking out of the room.

Wow.

Jesse must be so fricking hurt right now. I should go see him. He must be outside with Zed.

I walk out of the restroom and head back to our booth only to find Chloe and Sara both standing, ready to leave.

"What's going on?" I ask Chloe, who was enjoying a chocolate sundae. Seriously? She's having dessert, now?!

"Zed said we should get going. He's um... waiting outside" Chloe says, gesturing to the carpark.

I nod and follow her and Sara out, so anxious to see Jesse. I really hope he's alright.

As we approach the car I can only see Zed standing by it. Okay, Jesse must already be sitting in the car then.

"Where's Jesse?" I ask him, an uneasy feeling washing over me.

"He took off" He replies, before getting into the car.

"Oh" I mutter to myself, feeling kinda upset. I wanted to comfort him.

Chloe climbed in the backseat with me, letting Sara sit infront with Zed. I leaned on Chloe's shoulder the entire ride home. I was so worried about Jesse, I didn't even touch the sundae she bought me.

"You should go see him later" Chloe tells me as I get out of the car. I look over at Jesse's house, deciding whether or not I should.

"Yeah, maybe later" I tell her, before waving them off and heading inside.
