CHAPTER TWELVE ౨ৎ Lovesick
"Can we pretend that nothing's changed at all?"

        Not too bad! So plan she shall.

        The famous last thoughts of Lorelei Flores as she continued following her stubborn friend around their apartment. Soon entering their room (with no desire to change her mind after her beautiful, most telling pleads, might she add).

"Bombard me with more pleas about the party and I will have to resort to sleeping in Clem and Mars' room. And you'll be temporarily banned from using my straightener." Juliette declares, eyeing her friend who straightens. "I've rejected many parties before, why are you so insistent I go to this one?"

"First of all," Lorelei pauses, "You've been watching way too much Bridgerton. Second of all, because this could be fun!"

That elicits a laugh as she sits down on her bed, "It's your fault. Yes, it could be fun, but I still don't know if I want to go. And speaking of the show! Can we watch some later tonight?"

"Sure! — If you reconsider your decision."

She groans, shaking her head. "Lorelei, please. Why can't I just stay and you guys go?"

"Because it won't be the same! We want you there, Julie. Maybe you can even meet someone." The girl suggested, noticing the grimace that makes its way onto the brunettes face. "Oh, come on. It's been months!"

Keeping her mouth shut, she adjusts herself so that she now lays flat on her stomach. Grabbing a book from off her nightstand and opening it, seemingly trying to keep Lorelei from continuing now that she's visibly doing something.

She barks out a laugh, "You're pathetic, you know that? I can just keep trying, I won't be the one annoyed."

"I'm pathetic? Lor, I— okay, what'll you give me if I go? If I decide that I'll think about it."

"Well, what do you want?"

Humming to herself, she pondered. "I'm actually not sure, which means nothing you do or say will convince me to change my mind since there is nothing I want from you! Now let me think."

"Oh, you completely suck." She sighed, slumping her shoulders in defeat.

"It's just like any other party, L. Seriously, what is with the fuss?" Juliette questioned, turning her head to look at her. "Is there someone you want to see? Talk to? Run into?"

She sputtered, quickly shaking her head. "No!"

Eyeing her skeptically, the girl simply nods. "Right, of course! Okay, then."

"Why do you not want to go?"

"Do I need to say anything other than the fact that I just don't want to?" She exhaled.

Nodding, Lorelei hummed. "Do you think you'll run into someone? A certain someone? A specific blonde perhaps? With brown eyes—"

"Hazel eyes," Juliette corrected, failing to notice what, or in this case, who she had just unintentionally brought up. Until she did, "Lorelei, that meant nothing, don't even start or I seriously won't go."

"And I wasn't even the one who brought her up. So, that means that I'm right? You don't want to go because you're worried you'll see her there and that she might talk to you because of your new... arrangement."

Flickering her gaze back to hers, she narrows her eyes. "Do you want me to go or not."

"Oh! I'll be leaving you alone. Swear, cross my heart. You won't hear from me for the rest of the day! Bye!" She beamed, the shit-eating grin on her face suggesting otherwise as she slowly backs up and out of the room. Ignoring the scoff that came from out of the girls mouth when she rushes to their other friend's room.
