Veronica enjoyed Jordan's company.

He could be a little too eager for everyone's good and maybe sometimes he was way too quick to speak, but all and all, he seemed like a genuine individual.

He tried too hard, that ruined his authenticity.

And he still wasn't in the same wavelength as Veronica, but there was time for everything. They hadn't figured each other out yet.

He bought her strawberry ice cream when Veronica remembered telling him she obsessively loved chocolate everything.

On their second date, he even brought calla lilies, which Veronica thought was an adorable romantic gesture.

Too bad she was allergic to them.

The chocolates he bought were always milk, he didn't like any shows she preferred and they didn't always see eye to eye in most values.

He told her she was too ambitious.

Maybe that was the biggest turn off out of everything. She'd take him bringing flowers she was allergic to over that sentence any day.

Veronica didn't understand how someone could have too much ambitions. Too many dreams. She was raised in a world where everything was reachable if you wanted it enough. If you worked hard for it enough.

She was timid when speaking of her goals and aspirations. People were brisk to judge. And when they were arbitrary, there were too many questions.
Some of them mockingly snub.

He'd said it in a comical sense too. With a laugh after it. She kept replaying the giggle that floated from his lips afterward. It was despicable.

So when she'd went on her daily jog and ran into none other than the person whom the latina felt like rolling her eyes at every day of the week, she decided the universe was playing a dirty card.

"Hey Veronica Harmonica," Jordan messes with her hair, the nickname felt insultingly dull. "Told you tie dye is a good look on you." He flicks her chin once looks down at her sports bra.

A more than forced laugh escaped her parched lips and she takes this unwanted stop as a time to stretch. "Yup, you said that."

And so many other things.

"So, how do you feel about a hike for our next date? I know a great trail."

A replica of her previous laugh is her response. "Is it popular? I might just kill you in the woods." He didn't know how much she meant that.

He playfully rolls her eyes at her. "Aww, come on, I bet you'd leave no traces."

"You have no idea!" Did he realize how sarcastic she was being?

"Unpredictability. I like that in a girl." A coy smiles follows his words.

But not one that has goals and dreams?

"Guess you'll never know what I like."

"Aiming to find out." He shrugs."I heard hiking is a great aphrodisiac, that'll help me, no?" A dazzling smile etches across his face.

Veronica appreciates the flirting and quirks her mouth to one side. He had his moments, she could give him that. "You actually believe that?"

"You mean getting all out of breath, sweaty and tired doesn't scream turn on? No way." His sarcasm was workable with.

The young girl actually laughs and is joined by Jordan too.

"It was great seeing you, but I'm running late for my study group. Math is killer." He ducks his head for a sweet kiss on her cheek and Veronica is too busy being grateful for finally escaping the awkward encounter to cringe at the gesture.

She leisurely continued her jog, stopping twice to capture a picture of the sun between two trees. Her phone almost slipped out of her grip once she saw the newest update from a particular Instagram account that she never missed a post from.

A photo of Verona Bianchi alongside her college friends, all sporting silly faces as they stood before St.-Paulus-Dom in Münster.

"Sober pacts were ruined minutes after taking this picture #KaterPosts"

Veronica was ashamed to admit she scrutinized every character in that caption until she couldn't bear staring at the phone anymore.

Jealousy was an ugly emotion. One the brunette despised to feel, express, talk about and handle. It felt like repetitive flames bursting in her chest and the lack of control over it was what kept sending her over the edge. Her movements transformed from a slow jog to an angry sprint and she only acknowledged where her feet had travelled her to once it was too late.

Once upon the time, the vision of the familiar lake with the occasional swans would have brought her to a calmer state in a matter of seconds.

Today it only brought memories her heart couldn't survive going through.

At least not during these moments. Not when the only sensation she could feel was a nasty hatred towards someone's success.

She took off again, in the complete opposite direction.

Veronica Delgado never ran from things, but today it seemed like the only thing she was good at. The only thing she could do.
