- "Just The Way You Are," Billy Joel

18th of March 1978
Jeons' Mansion

He already heard the knocks on his door but he didn't mind them. It has been two boring weeks since they received the invitation from the Kims. Today's Saturday and everyone in their mansion is now busy doing their respective tasks and workloads. Today's the first day of the weekends, meaning he doesn't have classes. And here is young master Jeon Jeongguk, still being swallowed by the bed and buried under the pillows and sheets.

"Young master," The butler called for him. He still doesn't have the strength to answer and stand up. Until the butler called him by his whole name, sounding annoyed for knocking on the door for a couple of hundred times already, and Jeongguk's other eye went wide.

"Yeah, I've been awake for hours now! Go away, I'm doing some..." Sleep. He didn't have the chance to finish his sentence because he still feels sleepy. It is because he's up for hours after midnight. Thoughts are going around his head. Half percent was all about the story he was writing, and the other half was all about Kim Taehyung.

And why is he thinking of Taehyung in the middle of the night? It was because of this letter he received from him.

March 17, 1978
The Kims' chateaú

Jeon Jeongguk,

I don't even know why I am writing this letter. Haha. It has been days since we've first met, and I don't even know why I wanted to see you once again. And, oh! By the way, your father gave my father his information card that contains your address that's why I knew where I would send this if you are wondering. It was my first time writing a letter to a friend and I don't even know what to say. I've never done this to anyone, not at all. Haha.

Anyways, are you feeling alright these days? I hope you are because I am doing great. I didn't know listening to some music whilst painting was fun to do. My father put this phonograph thing in my room (that at first I thought was trash because I don't know how to use it) until he taught me how to play with the thing. He had a lot of pieces of vinyl with great tracks to listen to. I hope I could listen to them with you. Don't you think that will be great?

Wow, I just noticed that I wrote three sentences that started with 'I don't even know...' in the same paragraph. Haha. Why am I laughing at myself in the middle of the night? What am I thinking? Is it okay though to write 'Haha' in this letter even though I didn't laugh on paper but I laughed literally? Ah! What am I writing?

Have a great day always, Jeongguk. Always put a smile on your face because that suits you better. And I'll see you, I heard you're coming here with your father. I hope we can have alone time too, so perhaps, I might invite you to come with me for a dinner the other time?

I don't wanna write more, haha. This got longer than I expected. But I'll see 'ya!

Yours truly,
Kim Taehyung

"Young Master, your father is asking for you. Aren't you finished with what you are doing yet? They are expecting you will be arriving soon. Stand up if you're still in the bed, young master Jeongguk," he said that made Jeongguk lift his head.

"W-What do you mean they are expecting us to arrive s-soon?" he replied, his voice a little raspy by the fact that he just woke up. He was looking for his glasses-that he placed on his side table before he finally felt sleepy last night-without using his eyes. He was using his hand while his face was still on the pillow.

"The Kims, young master. Today's the day you are visiting them in their chateaú." With that, finally, Jeongguk has now a reason to stand up and prepare for the day. The sudden mention of the last name made him feel excited. He's once again meeting Kim Taehyung, the most intimidating man he'd met. Nobody possesses the type of aura that Taehyung has, and that is a fact.

"Young Maste-" The butler was cut when Jeongguk finally opened the door of his room, revealing the now-dressed boy with his hair pushed a little in the sides and smelling like sweet candy.

"How do I look?" Jeongguk asked him and then he made turns to show him his whole outfit. "Do I look alright for a visitor?" he asked.

"I am sorry to say this young master, but you looked like you are going to attend a business meeting," said the butler, and Jeongguk crossed his arms, his eyebrows almost meeting.

"Aren't we attending a business meeting?"

"I think you overdressed a little. You're just going to visit them for a lunch and what else. You should get changed to casual clothes," The butler had pushed him back to his room and Jeongguk just let himself get in. "They'll just gonna talk about business, I am very sure of that. Older men love business talks!" he shouted but the doors finally had shut. The butler's still outside, waiting for Jeongguk to finish.

He then decided to just wear a cotton poplin shirt partnered with a check wool jacket. He just wore regular fit washed jeans with boots. I hope the butler will like that for him because he tired himself already by changing his clothes.

He finally went out to present himself to his butler. He didn't say anything though and he just let go of Jeongguk so he would be with his father already. He was waiting for an hour now that's why he's a little mad at him. He didn't even have breakfast.

They went inside their car, and finally, the driver escaped the Jeons' grounds. Jeongguk was just staring outside the window, looking at the houses, trees, and other vehicles they were passing by. He is seated beside his father but they aren't even sharing a glance at each other or speaking.

Until his father decided to break the silence because they still have a long way to go. "Good thing you are coming with me. I thought you weren't because you've done the preparations a bit long. I didn't mind though. You can hang out a lot with Taehyung if you want to. Be friends with him. Creating bonds will also create extensions in our business," his father talked. It took him a little time to digest his father's words.

"Alright. But I just wanted to tell you that I am not doing this for the sake of our business, but for myself. I wanted to have someone, for once," Jeongguk replied. Mr. Jeon turned his face to the side with a smirk, thinking how ridiculous his son sounded. The deafening silence once again invaded the moving vehicle as they decided to cut their conversation short.

A few more kilometers, and finally, they've reached the Kims' ground. On their way to the exact chateaú, they saw fields of grapes, probably owned by them because they also offer wine on their market. The car stopped right in front of Kim's mansion, besides the fountain. Mr. Jeon went out and Jeongguk followed him.

A group of women welcomed them with bows as Mr. Kim approached them. He wasn't with Taehyung, the first thing that Jeongguk noticed. Another woman came towards them and then Mr. Kim introduced her to them. "I would like you all to meet my wife, Celeste." Mrs. Kim offered handshakes to both Mr. Jeon and Jeongguk.

"It is nice meeting you, Ma'am. My name is Jeon Jeongguk," Jeongguk said all of a sudden. Even his father was surprised that he introduced himself in front of Kim Taehyung's parents, which wasn't like him. He's shy around people, but today, he's acting differently. Like something has gotten into his guts that he dares to do so.

"Our son is inside his room, still preparing himself before your arrival. The helpers woke him up early but he once again slept that's why he'll be a little late. I said this because I think you two will get along well," Celeste explained and Jeongguk just nodded, now feeling anxious that Taehyung has been mentioned.

"Let us continue our conversation inside, today's weather is a little hot. We can't stay outdoors," said Mr. Kim and tapped Mr. Jeon's back. They both walked with their hands on each other's shoulders. The doors welcomed them and the maids were found placing everything on the dinner table. Kim Taehyung's parents offered them a seat, after that, they sat, facing each other.

"How old are you, Jeongguk?" Celeste asked, that's why Jeongguk stopped cutting his pork and stared in Mrs. Kim's direction. "I am 19, M-Ma'am," Jeongguk answered and he almost stuttered. Celeste smiled at Jeongguk's timid actions.

"He's young but too old to not have a girlfriend at his age," Celeste spoke to Mr. Jeon and both of them had chuckled. "Do you have a special someone right now, Jeongguk?" she added. Jeongguk held his glass and drank his wine. It tasted a little bitter that he almost choked but he managed to cover it up with the table napkin.

"This is what I'm talking about. While the other kids are out, going on dates with their lovers, Jeongguk was inside the library, finishing another Romance book with boring twists and cliché plot," Mr. Jeon sarcastically said and Mr. Kim agreed to him. Though Celeste looked a little offended.

"Don't call books that way! I'm fond of reading too," she said and smiled at Jeongguk, reassuring him everything is alright. Jeongguk let out a nervous chuckle beside his father.

"Anyways, when is your son coming? Isn't he joining us to have lunch?" Thank God Mr. Jeon asked because Jeongguk was wondering where is Taehyung. The space was wide, though a little small than their mansion. Despite having a small square area, there are plenty of rooms upstairs than the room on the ground area.

"Taehyung takes a while before he's finally done with himself. He wanted to impress everyone with his looks. He will not let them not attracted by his presence. He will make sure everyone's mouth is ajar," Celeste commented about her child. If Taehyung's heard that while eating, he'll probably feel flushed or he'll act all proud by himself.

They had more conversations in which Jeongguk was included but he felt bored of them already because the topic shifted from Jeongguk to Mr. Jeon's life, and now to business. They're back on business. Jeongguk for the last time took his napkin table and wiped his mouth, now standing up that's why everyone looked his way. "I'm sorry but may I ask permission to look around your house?" Jeongguk asked. Celeste put down her fork and knife.

"Of course, sweetie. You could do that. Let Taehyung assist you, alright? Pass by his room upstairs, at the left corner of the second floor. I guess he's finished now because we almost finished our food," Celeste said sweetly to Jeongguk, and he replied with a smile.

"Thank you, Ma'am," Jeongguk said before leaving the table, letting the older persons talk about business all they want. Meanwhile, Jeongguk wandered around, started staring at the different pictures hanging from each wall. Every maid he passes by bows at him like he's their master. Though he's a visitor that's why they do that.

"The door in the left corner, the door in the left corner..." Jeongguk reminded himself as he is finally walking upstairs. His steps were all delicate, they were like he's being very careful because he's thinking they might break where they are not. Jeongguk continued to stroll until his legs brought him in front of a certain door in the left corner. He tried knocking at the door but no one responded.

"Taehyung? Are you inside?" he asked. The door suddenly opened, revealing a blonde boy wearing a cotton shirt and stripe-washed silk tie inside a green wool mohair vest, partnered with green mohair tailored pants with loafer shoes. Jeongguk almost drooled over Taehyung's look but he stopped himself so he looked at Taehyung's face.

"Can I come inside?" Jeongguk asked and Taehyung just nodded. He let him inside and closed and locked the door afterward like he doesn't want anyone coming inside his room. "Your face looks sour, are you alright?" Jeongguk asked him.

"I was in the good mood this morning not until my father decided to ruin my day despite it had just started," Taehyung said and sat on his bed. He started touching a chess piece and moving it as if he's competing with someone. Taehyung did look annoyed.

"Did you eat?" Jeongguk asked him.

"No. I lost my appetite this morning," Taehyung replied quickly and held another piece, taking another pawn from his opponent (himself). Jeongguk heard him sigh deeply. Now he had noticed a little of Taehyung's room. The light from the outside was blocked by the thick black curtains, making the room a little dark. Everything in the room was black or grey or white. Very sad color palette. The only cheerful color you'll see in the room were Taehyung's and Jeongguk's clothes they are wearing right now.

"Do you play chess? Be my opponent," Taehyung asked him. Even though Jeongguk didn't know how to play, he sat on the other side of the bed, facing Taehyung. "It's your turn," Taehyung informed. As Jeongguk didn't know what to do, he picked the horse-like piece and move it forward like a pawn, which was wrong.

"Hey!" Taehyung was surprised by his move. He even chuckled because of that. "That's not how a knight works. It follows the L movement," Taehyung explains and Jeongguk also chuckled at him.

"I'm sorry, I don't know how to play. Anyways, are you the one who designed your room?" Jeongguk asked. Taehyung shook his head as a response.

"When we moved here 2 years ago from Korea and chose this as my room, the color theme was already like this. I just let it be like that. It doesn't suit me, though. If you're going to open my cabinet, you'll see a very colorful closet," Taehyung said.

"I agree to that," Jeongguk said and glanced at Taehyung. "For me, you are a big ball of sunshine. You can make a person happy that easily," he added. Taehyung is now staring back at Jeongguk's big doll eyes that have the whole galaxy in them.

"Am I really?" Taehyung asked him and so Jeongguk nodded. Taehyung can't help but show his boxy smile at the younger, obviously joyed with Jeongguk's company. "That's so sweet of you to say. Thank you, darling," Taehyung added and now stood up, fixing his necktie. While he turned his back from the younger, Jeongguk felt his cheeks turn crimson red with the endearment used. Taehyung knows how to make him blush. Darling is the sweetest and cutest endearment for Jeongguk, though.

"Remember when I said in my letter I painted something?" Taehyung asked and Jeongguk nodded. Taehyung is now searching his cabinet for something. He took out a canvas of his painting. He handled it to Jeongguk.

"Purple roses? Is there such a thing?" Jeongguk asked as he stared at the beautifully painted bouquet of purple roses by Taehyung. He received an mhm as a response.

"Do you like it?" Taehyung asked him. Jeongguk once again nodded at him. "You can have it, if you want to, of course," he continued.

"Really? I can take this masterpiece of Mr. Kim Taehyung?" Jeongguk asked him once again.

"Is that your perfume?" Taehyung asked instead of answering the younger's question. He sat next to Jeongguk and started sniffling his side. Jeongguk didn't know what to react as he was holding the canvas and was surprised by Taehyung's actions. "It smells like strawberries. I love it," he complimented. Jeongguk started feeling his heartbeats double in pace. He cannot take any more compliments from Taehyung because he might explode.

"I-I... Um. Thanks. By the way, I wrote something for you too," Jeongguk said and took out a piece of paper from his pocket, his actions are obviously to divert Taehyung's attention from him. He handled the parchment to Taehyung. "Do not read it yet! Read it when I'm going already."

"What is it?" Taehyung tilted his head, curious as to what the letter may contain.

"Ah, my r-reply to your letter," he said. Taehyung blinked twice and stared at him for a few seconds before letting out a laugh.

"Why are you giving this to me now?"

"Because I don't know how to send you the letter! The mailman doesn't accept it!" Jeongguk complained. Taehyung chuckled at the younger's reaction. He's acting so cute that he wanted to tickle him by his sides or pinch his cheeks but he refrained from doing so.

"It's because you need to drop it from the Post office first," Taehyung said to him. Jeongguk turned his back from Taehyung, hiding his little pout because it was obvious that Taehyung was teasing him right now. "Okay, okay. I won't tease you anymore. I understand," Taehyung said and stood up. He opened the cabinet on his side table to get something again.

"Hey, I wanted to tell you something," Taehyung said.

"What?"

"Look my way," Taehyung commanded him. Jeongguk did stare at Taehyung. He saw him holding colorful papers in his hands. "Wanna hit the Monday matinee?" Those were tickets and he had finally asked his friend to hang out with him.

The whole outfits. ♡
