When It happened
Flashback...
My mom and I were sitting on the couch eating pizza, the boys were still on their vacation and were most likely on some small but fun hike. Suddenly our movie came to an unpredicted holt as a breaking news report shot up on the scree. "Today's breaking news story reports two missing males who were camping in the woods only three hours from the town of DarkShy. One to be presumed an eight year old boy black and white. He had brown eyes and was four foot six . The other was most likely forty with black curls, African American, six foot two, and had hazel eyes. They were hiking with some fellow campers in the area when they were suddenly lost near one of the small lakes in a clearing. If you find these men please contact the number under their pictures below. Thank you."
My heart stopped and everything felt woozy, my mom looked pale and fear was smeared across her face, I was scared too. My little brother and my dad were lost. It would only be worse for them at night. What if they weren't found for awhile, maybe they were just down the wrong path but okay, mom got up quickly calling dad. She paced around the kitchen with her phone held tightly in her hand and up to her ear. She stood there with a blank face and hung up. "Oh my god, he isn't answering. He always answers, you know that. They, they, they're in trouble. We have to go look for them, what if they need our help?"
"Mom, the police are already on it, others in that same area are searching. Don't worry i'm sure they just took a shortcut somewhere or one of them had to pee so they stepped aside for awhile and got separated from the people they were with. It's okay." I said, she sighed and smoothed her hair back letting a small smile spread on her face.
...
Finally, it was Thursday, the week was nearing an end and I would get a break from all the boredom school provided for me. I felt sluggish and tired, so it was no surprise that all I did was put on some make up and a sweater, leggings, and Uggs.
Of course it was all still super cute, but today was a day where I had no care in trying. Leena was outside in her car when I locked the front door and succeeded in not waking my mom. I went down the steps and hopped into the passenger seat, "are we headed to the bakery this morning?" I asked her as I set my bag on the floor. She looked to me, "of course, need my morning coffee and a muffin. Oh by the way, Danny texted me about you. Was wanting to know where you lived to pick you up for a date." "Know my address? That seems a little creepy, you didn't tell him did you?" "Of course I did, he has it bad for you girl." "Yeah but we haven't even known each other for a week, I mean he is going really fast. Kissing me, having me meet his parents at a dinner, asking for my address?" "you're overthinking it, I think you found the one, you may actually have to settle down babe." She says.
Junior year and here I was finding the guy who may win over my heart, my face grew warm as a smile went across my heart. "Wow, you may be right. I can not believe this, well maybe he will ask me on some sort of Halloween date you know?" She laughed, "yeah, maybe." She said as she parked in the lot.
The bell chimed on the door and the smell of pumpkin hit my face in a wonderful way, it made my eyes dart to the new items that were just made. Leena got her muffin and coffee, I got my pumpkin latte and the loaf that's in season right now.
We were out as quick as we got in and were already on our way to school by the time I took the first bite of my loaf cake. "Afterschool you have to come with me to shop for our costumes. I want to go all out this Halloween. Danny seems to be really sinister like so it would be funny to dress scary. Maybe even try to scare him." I commented staring down at my breakfast. She honked her horn aggravated at the blue car in front of us, "what the heck jerk! Can you be any more stupid, you blind over there?! And that sounds good to me."
She rolled her eyes and then flipped of the person who made her upset as she zoomed pass them, "wow you have a very interesting way of solving your problems." I said to her, "Yeah, I know, I'm a hot head. Let me admit to having to fix that, but it will be hard."
...
It was lunch, kids piled into groups, pushing others around, and filing into the cafereria trying to get the food served to them as soon as they could. As for me, my steps stayed small and even then I got in line at a pretty good time. I smelt all the diffrent foods in the room collecting and people were all sitting down now or standing in line. The girls in front of me were laughing about some guy in their class, the only guy I had eyes for now was Danny.
The line moved up some, my stomach only grew louder with it's grumble. My phone started ringing and it was Leena calling. "Hey what's up?"
"Where are you?!" She yelled through the phone.
"In the line for chicken Alfredo, why?"
"Because, Danny is litterally in the quad with some huge sighn and orange roses asking you out. He's asking like everyone where you are."
"Wow that's new, well I will be there in a minute. Just let me get my food cause that's pretty important for me."
"Okay, get here quick, he's starting to look a little pathetic." She said, "okay."
She hung up and I grabed my tray with the pasta, a roll, and a applesauce. Somehow managing to make it out of the crazy crowd, my eyes fell on him. He really was there in a nice flannel and black jeans. Sure enough he had a sighn and the flowers, it was like he was asking me to homecoming or something. But that wasn't the case of course. "Hey." I said approaching him, he smiled wide and put the sighn up higher for me to read. It was written in black with little pictures, it said.
Will you go out with me, or are you too scared to be my BOO?
A chuckel escaped my lips, "that's cheesy but sure. How about tommorow night. I have this thing afterschool today is all." He smiled nodding, "yeah works for me. How is your lunch?" "Okay." "Pasta is a little cold." I ate another fork full and shoved the last bite of the roll in my mouth.
"If you would like I could get you some of the carmel corn they're selling at the stand over there."
"Yeah that would be nice, thank you." He nodded and walked off, leaving me to toss my lunch in the can instead. My body grew cold as the wind picked up, I crossed my arms and inhaled the fresh dewy air. Kids sat on the slightly damp green grass eating their lunches and talking to friends.
Leena and her girlfriend walked past both giving me a thumbs up as a weight fell in my stomach, he came back with the bag of carmel corn. The steam lightly coming from it, he ate a peice and so did I, it was sweet, salty, and sugary. The warmth of it coated my tongue with it's carmel flavor.
"Wow, I surprisingly enjoy this. Usually the school only gives a half effort on something, this they actually tried." "Wow really, well glad my first experience was this then."
He smiled and ate some more, then took my hand and sat on a bench with me under my favorite oak tree here. We shared the popcorn and talked to eachother untill the bell rang making us go our seperate ways for the rest of the time remaining.
