Unexpectedly

I sat in the stained hospital chair-it was unbearably white and smelled of sterile items and fresh chemicals in the waiting room. There was a tear in the corner of the chair that strands hung from, I pulled at one as it made the hole bigger. A patient walked past with a pudding in their hand, holding their gown closed as much as they could. "You can come on in now sweetheart." Said a nurse. I got up and walked into the room. One other patient was laying in bed sleeping, it was a woman with red hair and she had a broken leg.

Danny looked at me clearing his throat. "Hey, so what's the news?" "I have a few cuts and bruises. My ribs are a little messed up but that's alright." The seat by his bed was cleaner than the one outside, this one wasn't even torn at the edge. "Were you okay last night-I was really worried." "Um I'm fine, a little shaken up though." The woman in the other bed stirred and her eyes fluttered open. An awkward tension tied between the room and feeling. Now Danny and I weren't as alone.

"They said they would let you go in about an hour." "Wow, they really don't mess around do they?" I laughed and shook my head, grabbed his hand and rubbed it.

"Once we head out maybe we can grab a meal. Go to the café and get a cheese Danish or pie. I kind of want some peach cobbler.' he nodded as a response-nothing more.

Danny sat down throwing his coat on another chair, I walked up to the counter examining the pies. There were about five different kinds-I got peach cobbler, and ordered cherry for Danny. We sat down with our pies and coffee doused with cream and sugar. He took a bite with a moan and smiled taking a sip of the hot light brown coffee.

"so what are we going to do, your grandparents are getting more dangerous and there isn't much we have skimmed over on the whole issue but to hide." "yeah I know-I was thinking that we could just flee the town." He said chewing on the bright red goo of the pie filling. "What?" "I was joking, but seriously. I know this sounds insane-believe me I do-but maybe we should kill them." I stopped chewing and looked at him, he stared at me hoping I would most likely answer. But nothing came out in the pace of time he wanted.

I cleared my throat and considered this-"Danny, that would be insane and hard and we damn well know that it would be a crap ton of a mess to clean." "Yeah you're right, plus the cops wouldn't believe us. We'd be summed up for some meth heads who killed someone." "Exactly." I agreed. I took a sip of the steaming coffee and felt the heat run down my throat burning my mouth as an aftershock effect.

His fork scraped against the plate as the cherry filling spread along the plate looking a bit like translucent blood, my hands fiddled with the handle on my coffee mug as I tried to remain calm. My pie was not nearly as eaten as Danny's but I took only two more bites anyway before pushing it aside. Danny looked at the pie and then at me in a bit of a shock.

"Don't tell me you're wasting that pie, you only ate like half of it." "yeah, actually I'm good. Guess I thought I wanted it more than I actually did." He dragged the plate closer to him and started eating some of that too. "Danny?" I questioned. He looked at me with his eyes sparked with wonder. I leaned in close to him as I felt mine fill with sorrow. "What if we tried to get to the bottom of whatever was happening and tried to fix things." He looked at me and sighed. He brought his napkin up to his lips and dabbled at them. "We could do that-but with what's happening it would take way to long and we could end up seriously hurt."

"But what do we have to lose, we are trying to be so careful and walk like we're avoiding  stepping on eggshells. I mean I am so tired of letting your stupid grandparents win while we sit back with our heads up our butt. Let's at least try to figure things out." Danny still shook his head-this only caused me to become more irritated and slump over in my seat.

Danny scoffed and rubbed his face with a stressed filled sigh, "we have our lives to lose. You could die or even I could die. THAT is what we have to lose, so stop messing around acting like you don't give a crap. Because I do, and I am not going through some adventure of risking my life for something so unreasonable, I don't give a hell about saving my grandparents anymore, my murder idea seems to be making more sense now."

I rolled my eyes and got out of my seat grabbing my bag, "forget it." He looked upset and got up to stopping me, his black lose curls fell into his sharp blue eyes. He looked at me and pulled me closer. "I'm sorry." He said, he held me and I felt the warmth of his body all over mine. He set a kiss on my lips and wrapped his arms tighter around me as they slowly trailed up to play with my hair.

Then he pulled away and held my face-"I would try but it's too risky. Let's just try to figure out a new plan-please?" I nodded as a response still feeling a bit stressed about Danny's response just minutes ago. He pulled back and took my hand he grabbed his jacket and we walked to the car. He and I got in as I drove us to my house with nothing but silence-because with the possibility lingering in the air now as something that could happen even more so-we were scared of losing each other.
