Roses Are Red As Blood
It was already lunch, everyone was dispersed in different places and I was at my locker. As I popped open the lock and opened the door two red roses fell to the wood floor. I leaned down to pick them up, inside was a card from Danny.
After reading throught it, I put the items in my locker and grabbed my ear buds from the top shelf. Then locked it back and walked into the cafeteria.
It was already beyond the point of being loud, people were pushing into everyone they saw. I sat down alone untill either Danny or Leena and her girlfriend sat with me.
My earbuds were pushed in my ears as music filled the void, the smell of many foods wafted through the hot and stale air. The seat underneath me became less and less comfortable with each second, there was no way they had to have been made for comfort.
My chips were overly salty and made a cut in my mouth.
The pizza overcooked, and milk warm even though it was bathing in a bucket of ice. Everything here at the table, was a boring distasteful and unsatisfying experience.
Outside looked better, there had been no sight of anyone known in here. Outside the air was thinner and cooled me down in a split second. The rock bench cooled my thighs and to much surprise provided much more comfort than what would have been thought.
Danny waltzed over holding a soda can and sat down on the same bench, he took a long gurgling sip. Then released a huge waft of air enjoying the taste.
"Although it's still some days away, what are you planning to do for Thanksgiving?" His usual somewhat creepy smile was plastered on his face after the subtle question.
"Just staying home consuming over abundants of food and having awkward family conversations. The usual, not sure if you noticed but I hate Thanksgiving ever since my dad and brother. Just never felt the same."
"Yeah, sorry about that."
"It's alright."
He took another swig, then stared at the distance where everyone seemed so happy but were they?
A dark gloom filled the empty void inside of me and a rustle loudly sounded behind me. Danny had not heard it, again there was a rustle.
I turned around not seeing anything, closer I leaned and saw something in the leafy bush. Oh my God....
No.
No.
No.
That can't be, it was no animal, but an arm. It smelt raw but fresh suddenly.
I leaned off the bench pointing ridiculously at it, Danny stood up and stared at it not noticing it right away.
He did as I did the first time, leaned over, stared, and then as he turned slowly his eyes were red and dark circles vividly appeared and stretched down his cheeks.
He grinned.
"Don't worry it's okay babe. It's all okay." He drew his hand to me and grabbed me, I was in shock.
It was time to realize he was not human and not safe. Jerking my hand away made him angry, but it didn't phase me. He sauntered away whistling and moved on to a new group. His soda was left alone.
I looked inside to realize he was not drinking anything normal.
Not a root beer or bland orange soda, but a vile dose of gasoline.
Oh my God.
This was real, this was hell.
Someone ran up behind me, it was Leena. She had tears in her eyes, "it's my girlfriend. She has not been answering anything and it has been a week. Something happened to her I know it." She began pouring down tears, then my head turned to the arm.
"Leena, oh my God, she-she, I think she's dead. Her arm is in the..."
No, no can't finish that sentence.
Help.
Someone help, we need help.
Why words not come out.
Words no.
None.
No.
No words.
"There." I pointed to the bush and as she drew closer her body froze, "that's the charm bracelet I gave her."
She dead.
Gone.
Bye.
Blood, so much and she's dead.
Red blood, red as my roses. The roses Danny gave me.
Thorns as thick as bones
Petals as red as blood
Stems as tall as her
And now the violets are as dead as she.
Dear fear, go away.
Hollow screams, and mounds of death is one little betrayal.
Dead dead dead.
She is dead as a doorknob.
Cold as ice.
Dead.
