SUMMARY:
From the very first moment Rick Grimes saw Alaska Henwick he felt as though every thing he had to endure made sense, because it all led him to her. The pain of losing his best friend and his wife faded into a dull aching whenever he was with her, instead of the flaming hot heat it usually was. He fell for her and maybe it was too soon but his heart belonged to her before he even had the chance to try and fight it.
But nothing good was meant to last in the new world. When an old enemy shows up at the gates of their home, Rick finds everything he had come to love ripped away from him. Their family is divided, scattered through the forest of Georgia and lost to the brutality of the walking dead. But the thought of her heals his pain and pulls him through. He sets out to find his family, having to overcome trial after trial. Rick keeps going until he is finally reunited with the people he lost but she is nowhere to be found...
When the opportunity of finding a new home comes along, Rick is forced to choose between his head and his heart; safety for his family, or finding her. But he knows what she would have wanted him to do, and so he chooses the safety of Alexandria. Though his heart is always out there, searching for her, missing her. As time passes however, he knows he has to accept the fact that she is simply gone.
If it were up to him, though, Rick Grimes would've kept looking for Alaska forever.

NOTES:
- So I didn't come up with this title myself. It's inspired by the book with the same title written by John Green. I found the title very mysterious and decided to give my own twist to it. Alaska Henwick used to be psychologist before the world ended. This is important to the story because she's very perceptive when it comes to people. Her two cats and her mother were the only family she had. When the world ended, she and her mom were out camping, which is how they survived the chaos in the city. But her mom wasn't able to survive for long and was killed when they were attacked by walkers. Alaska has a very dark sense of humor and often likes to make jokes about her cats wondering about as walkers. She also spend a long time along in the woods after her mom died, which is how she developed the habit of talking to herself. Basically, she's weird and she likes it that way.
- The story starts in season 4. Rick is out in the woods and finds Alaska as she's fighting off a few walkers. He helps her and after a short conversation, he decides to take her back to the prison. From the very beginning they're drawn to each other. Alaska is very intrigued by Rick and everything he's gone through. They talk for hours while Rick gives her shooting lessons because she doesn't know how to use a gun. However, Rick doesn't touch the gun himself, which only makes Alaska interested in him.
- They fall quickly for each other though it takes them a little while to act upon their feelings. Alaska slowly gets Rick to open up about losing Lori and Shane. Talking to her works almost like a medicine to Rick and slowly, Alaska helps him to heal. Be careful not to fall into the "love fixes everything trope" though. It's more like she helps him come to terms with his pain. Only Rick can heal himself.
- When the Governor comes and attacks the prison and the group gets scattered, Alaska is alone. She tries to find Rick and the others but simply can't and so she spends a while trying to survive on her own, just like she did before she met Rick. And after months of being out there by herself, the prison and Rick start to feel like a dream to her. She's slowly losing it and she knows she won't survive long on her own. Not because she doesn't know how but because she can't be alone.
- But the story doesn't end there. While Rick and the others are found by Aaron, Alaska is found by Negan and his men. Alaska very fiercely tries to fight them off, not liking the looks of them and her fierceness impresses Negan. He decides to take her with them and offers her a place in Sanctuary. It's up to you if you want to include certain romantic feelings between the two of them but if you do, don't make her act upon it immediately because she still feels very strongly for Rick. Even if you don't, I still think it would be funny to have a running joke between Negan and Alaska. He continually asks her to psycho analyse him and she always replies with very disturbing answers, which only makes him laugh.
- Alaska first sees a Rick and the others when Negan returns with a captured Daryl. She catches a glimpse of him and then realizes it was their group who they're at war with. She's not present the night Glenn and Abraham are murdered.
- And so Alaska gets caught up in the war between the Saviors and Rick. She has trouble deciding which side to choose. Not because she thinks Negan is doing the right thing, but because she wants to protect the innocent workers who live in the Sanctuary. I thought it would be fun to write a chapter about her sneaking out of Sanctuary and going to Alexandria to talk to Rick. She is mad at him for killing those Saviors at the satellite station and he is mad at her for being with Negan and so it will take some time for their relationship to heal again.
- Alaska is trying to get the workers to stand up against Negan. However, when she realizes they're too afraid, she knows the only way to save them is join Rick. Maybe you could have her be the one to free Daryl, which is the moment she joins Rick again. But if you want to do it later on, that's fine too!
- It's up to you if you want her to survive the battle or not. If she does survive, she and Rick should end up together! Her dying would be beautifully tragic but that is up to you. Obviously you can't change Alaska's name and I would prefer it if you wouldn't change the faceclaim either because I think Tasya is absolutely perfect for the role.
