SUMMARY:

Laura Moore had been running ever since the dead had risen. Together with her daughter Harper she had managed to stay alive, but at the cost of her husbands life. No where was safe anymore and Laura didn't like pretending that it ever would be again. She had accepted the end of the world long ago and now every day was another fight to stay alive. The only thing keeping her from losing it completely was her daughther. She would never stop fighting to protect her, the most precious thing left in the world to Laura.

But when they run into a small group of survivors, Laura realises not everything is lost. They decide to move on together and Laura finds herself drawn to a man completely the opposite of her deceased husband. Negan is rude, tough and doesn't take anything serious but around Laura he acted as though she was made of glass and he had to prevent her from breaking.

Slowly the two grow closer and as time passed by Laura found herself slowly starting to heal from the scars the world had etched in her skin. And surviving slowly changed into living.

They both should've known though that life did not grant people much happiness anymore in this new world. Danger is around every corner and had they known what lay ahead in their future, they might've thought twice about settling down in what seemed to be a sanctuary.

NOTES:

- This is an original story that takes place before sanctuary existed, this story will tell how Negan became the leader of the Saviours. In this story Laura had a big impact on the way Negan sees the world and acts the way he does, i'll get into that later. I'll say this right away, this story does not have a happy ending. Cool with that? Alright, let's move on.

- Laura, her husband and daughter fled the city when the outbreak started and tried to survive on their own. Somewhere along the way her husband died, leaving just her and her daughter. Laura is very overprotective of Harper and very strict at times as well, but she only acts that way because she thinks it will protect her.

- One day they come across Negan and his group and they offer Laura and Harper a place in their midst. Haura accepts and they move on together. It takes a while for Laura to warm up to them but she slowly becomes friends with most of them. You can decide which Saviours we see in the walking dead are already with Negan and I would love to see some original characters as well.

- It takes Laura a long time to warm up to Negan since he is very different than her husband who was calm and kind. But Laura starts to enjoy being around him, fascinated with how he sees the world. They talk a lot about how the world has changed and what humanity should do to survive. They are like two philosophers together, dreaming about starting a new community. Laura has many ideas about how they could safe people if they had somewhere to operate from and this is how Sanctuary came to be.

- Eventually the two fall in love but there should be a friendship there first. Laura is a lot "softer" than Negan, not that she doesn't know how to fight because she does, but in a way that she is a lot kinder and warmer and manages to calm him down whenever someone or something angers him. It's a ying/yang situation. They balance each other.

- Also Negan should become like a father figure to Harper. We all now how much he loves kids so he would certainely have a great relatioship with her. She warms up to him a lot faster than Laura does and is part of the reason why Laura opens herself up to the possibility of a relationship. Because if her daughter approves, why shouldn't she?

- Eventually the group comes along the place that later becomes Sanctuary. A large community has already formed there and they are allowed to become part of it. The leader; Dante Cobbs, however, is a hothead and totally not fit to lead. While Negan more and more shows how great of a leader he is, saving the community multiple times from herds and starvation. Dante feels threatened and Negan notices this, which is why he plans to overthrow him to safe not only Laura and Harper but the entire community.

- However, Dante finds out about this plan and decides to stop him by taking away the thing he loves most; Laura. That's right, I'm so sorry and I can't believe I'm saying this, but Laura has to die. Negan and Harper both see it happen. I have this idea in my head based on the gif above. Laura is forced on her knees in front of Negan and the people who support him and Negan is given a choice; surrender or watch her die. He doubts and Laura reminds him of the many conversations they had and the sanctuary they dreamed of. Still negan doubts and then Dante takes away his choice by saying he's taking too long and pulling the trigger. That, however, is a big mistake because then of course Negan gets mad and a fight breaks out in which Negan kills Dante and takes over the community, naming it Sanctuary.

- This story doesn't have to be long. it could be around twenty chapters, you can focuse on Laura meeting Negan's group and trying to survive with them and falling for Negan in the first ten chapters. Then have them come across the factory and live in the community for the last ten chapters. Just an idea.

- EXTRA: If you feel like it, you could make a sequel to this focusing on Harper after her mother's death. You could write about the fight with Rick from Harper's perspective. Negan, in her eyes, is the good guy, though he did become a lot colder and more cruel after Laura died. I think it would be interesting to form some sort of friendship and eventually relationship between Harper and Carl. They are around the same age and I think it would awesome to have these two kids on a different side of a war fall for each other.

- It would be even more awesome that you don't kill Carl and instead let him convince Rick not to kill Negan with words. Because Harper has shown him that Negan's intentions aren't all that different from Rick own intentions and when she tells Carl the story of her mother, Carl realised fighting is never the right option. And so he tries to convince Rick to let Negan live (without dying in the process) and then him and Harper could have a very cute relationship moving forwards in season 9. And Negan, in his cell, realises that even after her death Laura is still changing his life. Just a thought, not something you have to do if you take this plot but it could be a great sequal idea. Possible name for the sequel could be: Breath of life.
