SUMMARY:

Kenna Forbes had been alone for most of her life. Her mother left before she could even talk and her father had a busy job that left him with little time for his daughter. She was never a star in school and often got into trouble, which didn't leave her with many friends either. And so with low grades and a whole lot of anger Kenna decided to join the army. She thrived under the pressure of command and the feeling of adrenaline pumping through her veins. Finally she found her purpose in life, something she was good at. But it wasn't meant to last.

The weekend she returned home to Central City after another mission, STAR-labs launched their particle accelerator. The few days in the year Kenna was at home, the world changed and so did she. The particle accelerator exploded and when she woke up from the blast, her hands were glowing and a whole new responsibility was placed on her shoulders.

Discharged from the army to recover from her injuries, Kenna discovered that her hands can do a whole lot more than just glow. And with her new found powers she sets out to do what she does best, fight. Because the explosion did not just change her, but a whole lot of bad people as well and someone had to do something to stop them.

But as it turned out she wasn't the only one willing to do something about it. Barry Allen was just as determined to save the city as she was. And what at first seemed to have changed her life for the worst, eventually turned into the reason she was finally no longer alone.

NOTES:

- This story has been in my drafts since the very first time I watched the Flash which is at least six years ago. I was absolutely in love with this plot but for some reason never got to writing it. Now, I'm not really into the DC anymore. I haven't watched the latest seasons because I got more and more frustrated with a number of things. Still this plot remained in my drafts because I was so in love with the idea and I couldn't part with it. Even now that I've decided to put in my Plot Shop it still kind of hurts to part with it. And who knows, I might end up writing it myself anyway. No pressure for you guys, but this plot is very dear to my heart ;)

- Kenna Forbes is a very closed-off person, having been on her own for most of her life she puts on a mask to the rest of the world. She's a very intelligent girl, but it's more street smarts than book smarts, which is why Barry and her would balance each other perfectly. Her time in the army has made her very tough and she finds it hard to let her guard down and so I think it would be funny for Barry to try and get her to laugh, like a little personal side mission for him. Also, Barry likes to call her Kensi. Just a little nickname I thought would be cute. :)

- Kenna lives in Central City when she's not away on missions and she's just arrived home when the particle accelerator explodes. She's out on a run and is very close to the building. She is thrown back by the blast and is wounded, which is why she's brought to the hospital and discharged from the army until she's recovered. When she wakes up she realises she has powers. Her hands glow and it takes her a while to figure out what exactly she can do. She can absord energy and manipulate it. She can form energy shields, can shoot blasts of energy but it always has to come from a source. Whether that source be electricity, the sun, or her own body, doesn't matter but her powers do need a source. Cisco gives her the name Sapphire, since her hands glow blue when she uses her powers.

- When the metahumans start to pop up in Central City, Kenna is the first to respond to them, since Barry is still in a coma. She tries to fight them and delivers them to the police. She doesn't always manage to capture them and often comes home with bruises and wounds but she doesn't give up. She doesn't like to sit still and since she's still discharged from the army she can't do much else. She's also trying to find a new job. She doesn't want to join the army anymore because she feels the city needs her protection and so she goes to the Central City Police to apply for a job. Here she is introduced to Joe. She is hired as an agent, which makes looking for Metahumans a whole lot easier as well. She's introduced to Barry when he goes to the station after waking up from the coma.

- She first meets The Flash in episode two when he's fighting the metahuman who can multiply himself. Barry is getting beaten up and doesn't know how to respond to it yet and Kenna arrives just in time to create a shield around him and safe him but she's gone before he can see who she is. She wears a hoodie and has a scarf wrapped around her face, only her eyes are visible, so Barry can't see her face.

- The second time they meet is in episode three. They meet outside of Iron Heights prison. The Flash is trying to outrun the metahuman who can turn into gas and just when the metahuman turns back into his human form, Kenna knocks him out with an energy blast. Kenna asks him what he's gonna do with the metahuman and Barry tells her he has a prison. She simply nods and is about to walk away but Barry stops her by asking who she is, she responds with "a friend". 

- This goes on for a while. They keep running into each other and Barry tries to discover who she is but Kenna keeps refusing to tell him. During her multiple run-ins with the Flash she realises how inexperienced he actually is and in episode 6 she finally decides to do something about it. She knows he has been meeting with Iris at Jitters and so she pretends to be Iris and places a message online for the Flash to find. They meet on the roof and she offers to train him in an abandoned warehouse near the river. At first he refuses and she simply shrugs and walks away until he calls her back and agrees. She smiles and tells him they're leaving immediately. They train the entire night until Barry is called away because Iris has been kidnapped by Tony. She goes with him and watches him beating Tony by combining his speed and her training and she is proud.

- This goes on for a while. Kenna grows to like Barry in the workplace and grows to like training with the Flash. I had this idea that Barry and Kenna start a sort of mini competition. She goes with him and Caitlin to the karaoke bar and when she sees how good he can sing she tells him "You can sing, Allen? Seriously what can't you do?" And he replies with: "I would like to know about you, is there anything I can't beat you at?" She accepts his challenge and takes him to a taco place some days later and lets him eat the hottest tacos. She can eat them without blinking, but Barry can't swallow them. This starts a competition between the two where they keep trying to find things to beat the other at. This could eventually lead to the bowling scene with Eddie and Iris. In the series Barry is there on a date with Linda, but you could write Kenna in there instead.

- One time when they're hanging out she tells Barry she's never really had a friend before and replies with: "You don't have to be alone, Kensi. I'm here if you need me." Later when she is training with the Flash and she once again refuses to take her mask off he says something similar to her: "You don't have be alone, I'm here if you need me." And she then realises that Barry is the Flash.

- After that she considers multiple times to tell Barry that she knows he's the Flash and that she's the superhero who has been helping him but she keeps talking herself out of it. She keeps finding excuses on why it isn't safe. Until she gets a call from the police that her father has been kidnapped by a metahuman she fought when Barry was still in a coma. The metahuman has been out for revenge on her ever since and figured out her identity. She hasn't seen her father in years but it's the only family she has and she refuses to let him die. The metahuman tells her not to involve the police and so she goes to STAR-labs instead. She shows up in the lab suddenly, suprising them all. Barry is confused on why she's there and she simply smiles at him and shows her glowing hands, finally revealing her identity.

- Barry helps her to rescue her father and afterwards they have a conversation about them hiding their identities from the other so long. She tells Barry she's always been alone and was afraid that he would leave as well, and he tells her not to worry and that he's in no way disappointed that it's her beneath the mask.

- Also in the second season I wanted to include Kenna's father more and have them work on their relationship and wanting to be more in each other's life. Please built this up slowly since there is still a lot of hurt there but the relationship wasn't abusive, just complicated so don't have her father be a total dick.

- I do want it to take a while before they get together since Barry is obviously still in love with Iris. But Kenna figures out pretty soon that she likes him which leads to a whole lot of pining and longing looks. I imagine her telling Barry about her feelings in the series finale before he goes back in time. When he's doubting if he's going to do it or not, she talks to him and tells him she'll support him no matter what, like he supported her. Then she carefully gives him a kiss before leaving him alone with his thoughts.

- It's up to you how much seasons you want to write. I had personally planned out the first three seasons because after that I lost interest in the show. But if you want to include more seasons that's perfectly fine! Also if you need some more ideas you can always ask me because I've made an entire outline for the first three seasons :) Also, Wells doesn't like Kenna and doesn't hide this dislike. There is a very specific reason for that but I will keep that a secret and reveal it to the person that's going to write this plot, because it plays into season 2 and 3.

- As I said before this plot is very dear to my heart so I will be picky about who I will give this plot to. Also I would prefer it if you don't change the name or the faceclaim.
