"But-"
"No."
"Can't we just-"
"No!"
"Ji-"
"How many times do I have to say 'no' for you to understand that we are not going to take a break?!"
Lee Jihoon is either a great friend or a terrible person. I'm still deciding it.
Tomorrow, the two of us are going to do an exam for one the toughest subjects we have.
Jihoon is very determined to pass it, no matter how many hours of sleep must he lose.
Me? I've been procrastinating for the last month since I found out about the exam...so yeah, I barely given it any thought. But in my defense, I've been thinking about other things...like how much I don't want to study or how great a nine-hour marathon of various kdramas sounds.
Plus, I've been mourning the death of my non-existent relationship with the handsome stranger whose name is still unknown to me.
The coffee shop is pretty much empty this time at night, except for me, Jihoon and Joshua. The older boy is behind the counter, cleaning and overall preparing everything for the next day, occasionally telling Jihoon to calm down. Meanwhile, my very stressed friend and I are sitting in our usual booth, surrounded by stacks of papers, notes, and books.
Studying at the very last chance doesn't tend to help, but we're desperate.
Besides, it's not the first time the three of us stayed at the coffee shop until the ungodly hours of the night, only leaving either because Joshua was forced to close everything or until we fell asleep due to exhaustion. In those cases, usually, Jeonghan would grace us with his presence and drag us all home with Joshua's help.
"Jihoon... maybe you two could use a break." Joshua offered as he observed Jihoon's angry writing and me attempting to absorb all the information in the book in front of me.
"We could use a miracle instead! I could write the Shakespearean equivalent of an exam, and I would still fail! That teacher hates us!" I replied, my eyes never leaving the printed words.
"It can't be that ba-"
"He's still throwing in our faces the time we arrived five minutes late! That was a month ago!" Jihoon interrupted, "I'm telling you, he's one of those teachers that takes pleasure in embarrassing students! He must have a hell of inferiority complex!"
"Still, you two should take a break! Get some sleep or something. Maybe I should call Jeonghan to take you guys home..."
"Josh, you're an angel, you really are-"
"But I can sleep when I'm dead!" Jihoon interrupted me, exhaustion already kicking in, "Unless someone barges in, in a life or death situation, I'm not going to-"
And just like in a scene straight from a movie, the doors of the coffee shop were smashed opened, revealing a group of four guys. The loud noise made me jump, but I was secretly happy for the distraction. One more minute looking at the same sentence would have probably driven me crazy.
The four boys who caused all the commotion were actually a sort of amusing sight now that I noticed. One, who seemed like the youngest one of the group, was basically carrying his apparently very drunk friend, who was holding his arm in pain. The other two boys were in a similar position, except the sober one was dragging the intoxicated friend, who was glancing around the place until his eyes landed on me. Wait...is that...
"COFFEE GIRL! LOOK MINGHAO SHE'S HERE!"
Yup, that's everyone's favorite friendly stranger. And the possible serial killer, according to a theory which Jihoon doesn't seem very keen on letting go.
Minghao, the sober friend who was still attempting to drag 'Wendy, that's the name I gave him last time I saw him, inside, gave me a sympathetic smile. My attention, however, was then placed on the other pair, who was trying to get closer to the counter, where Josh was.
"Is he okay?" Joshua worriedly asked while examining the state the other boy was, "What's your name?"
"See, you should be taking notes. Joshua is about to find out the name of the crazy drunken messes that invaded our last minute study session. He's making more progress than you, 'coffee girl'." Jihoon nudged me, to which I responded by hitting him with his notes in his arm.
"I'm Chan and this is Soonyoung. We were celebrating, and Soonyoung got hurt" The younger boy named Chan explained "Can you give us a hand? We didn't know where else to go, not to mention that this probably the only place open at this time."
"Of course! Bring him to the back, I'll see what I can do for him. Jihoon, help Chan!"
"All I wanted was to get some study done. Is that too much to ask?" Jihoon groaned while getting up from his sit and putting his arm around the drunken boy waist to support him.
Minghao was about to follow them, dragging Wendy along, but the older boy started to protest.
"I want to stay with her! PLEEEAAASEE!"
Minghao sighed and looked up to me.
"Would you mind putting up with him for a little?"
"How bad is he when he's drunk?"
"He just says a lot of nonsense and will probably try to flirt with you."
"...I can live with that! I'll stay with him, don't worry."
Minghao thanked me and started to lead intoxicated Wendy to the sit in front of me, previously occupied by Jihoon. Once he sat down, he immediately grinned and waved enthusiastically. I chuckled and waved back, as Minghao followed the others to the back of the coffee shop, shouting a quick 'behave' over his shoulder.
"So Wendy, what brings you to this fine place, at this time at night, completely drunk?"
"I don't know if I actually hate or love that you call me that" he giggled "But me and Soonyoung were having a drinking contest, and I dared him to do one of our choreographies...I didn't expect him to pick the hardest one and hurt himself...was that my fault?"
"Not really. But don't worry, I'm sure it's nothing serious! He's in Joshua' capable hands, so he's fine! Your friend said you were celebrating something?"
"Oh! We won a contest for best dance performance!"
"You're a dancer?"
"We all are! I can show you sometime!"
"Sure, maybe when you're soberer..."
"...I'm going to sit next to you, hold on! DON'T MOVE!" he declared as he tried to get up. He struggled for a bit but in the end, he managed to succeed, land on the couch booth next to me.
"Hi!"
"Hello again." I laughed at his silliness.
"Your laugh is cute! Your face is cute! You're cute!" he said as he pinched my blushing cheeks.
"Thanks?"
He continued to squish my cheeks until he decided to put both his hands on either side of my face, and squash it.
"What are you doing?"
"At first, I just wanted to see how ridiculous you would look, but now I realize that you still manage to look adorable, plus your face is soft, so I'm not planning on stop this anytime soon."
"You're weird." I laughed, my face still being squished by his hands.
"You kissed me, so I guess that means you like me weird."
"You're the one who kissed me first!"
"I'm feeling tempted to do it again."
"What makes you so sure I wouldn't punch you this time?"
"I know you probably won't. Besides, if it was just a one-time thing, why are you still here with me?"
"...because...I promised your friend that would stay here with you?"
"Lies! You like me!"
"I don't!"
"I LIKE YOU, REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY!!"
"Stop singing!"
"Make me!"
"Wendy no!"
"Wendy yes!"
And that was how I ended up getting kissed by the same stranger for the second time. It was sloppy in comparison to the first one, not to mention the taste of alcohol was very present, but still very much enjoyable. The boy really knows how to kiss, even if his brain cells aren't working properly.
Needless to say that once I heard Joshua's voice getting closer, I quickly pushed the boy away, which accidentally made him lose his balance and land with his butt on the floor. But at least the sight of his friend sprawled across the floor managed to cheer up Soonyoung. His arm was fine by the way, it was just bruised.
This whole situation whoever wasn't very pleasant for Jihoon, who was still stressed about the exam. And he sort of guessed what had happened in their absence, so he was once again ready to lecture me about 'the dangers of kissing strangers who you barely know', all the while giving me the 'I'm-so-judging-you-right-now' look I've grown so used to.
To add even more to my annoyance, I failed the exam.
All because I couldn't stop thinking about the previous night.
Goddamm you Wendy!
