44: Playing Cupid with Feelings

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──

Wipe away your tears and rest in peace.
Have sweet dreams tonight

Broken by reality, painfully pulled out
Wings that cannot be easily spread

Even if I want to fly up to the sky
The weight of the world pulling down

A few movies later, most of the group had been knocked out, leaving just Chan, Hana, and Jisung.

"Are you two not tired?" Hana yawned, stretching her arms.

"I am, but I can't seem to fall asleep. It's only 4 AM,"
Chan replied, rubbing his eyes.

"If anyone overheard this, they'd probably think we're crazy," Hana muttered.
"I'm exhausted, but sleep is nowhere to be found."

Jisung grinned mischievously.
"Well, I don't know about you two, but I blame the Red Bull I had after dinner. No wonder I'm still wide awake."

Hana narrowed her eyes, her voice dropping to a disbelieving whisper.
"Who in their right mind drinks Red Bull after dinner?"

Jisung shrugged nonchalantly, still buzzing with energy, his legs and hands all fidgety.
"What can I say? Red Bull give you wiiings."

Chan let out a soft laugh.
"Maybe not at dinner though, Ji. You're literally vibrating."

Hana shook her head, a tired smile tugging at her lips.
"You're going to regret that in a few hours."

Chan sighed, rubbing his eyes.
"But honestly, I'd kill for a coffee right now."

Hana raised an eyebrow, a smirk forming.
"Can't sleep without coffee either, huh?" she said, realizing how familiar it sounded.

Chan gave her a knowing grin.
"Guess we're all caffeine addicts here."

Jisung chuckled, shaking his head.
"I think you guys have got that backward. You realize caffeine is supposed to keep you awake, right?"

Chan shrugged with a grin.
"Only amateurs let it. True pros know how to harness it."

"Okay maybe let's not encourage unhealthy habits."
Jisung teased.

Hana grinned, unrepentant.
"Hey, we've both gotta do what we've gotta do to keep up with responsibilities."

Jisung pretended to shudder, his voice dripping with mock horror.
"Next thing you know, you'll be saying that sleep is overrated."

"Oh hell yes it is."
The two said in unison. They looked at each other in shock.

Hana and Chan burst into laughter, the unexpected harmony of their response ringing through the dimly lit room.

"Okay, that was too perfect," Jisung said, still chuckling.
"You two are clearly on the same wavelength."

"Hana, hold up. You said responsibilities. Speaking of which, what do you do for a living?"
Chan asked, curiosity piqued.

Hana grinned, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
"I'm a med student. Internship pays enough to get through."

Jisung raised an eyebrow, impressed.
"A med student?"

"Yeah, I'm in my third year,"
Hana replied, a hint of shyness creeping into her voice after receiving unexpected pride.

Chan leaned back,
"And here we thought we had it tough as producers. You're the real superhero, Hana."

Hana laughed,
"I mean, we all have our battles. Yours just happen to involve a lot more caffeine and less anatomy."

"What kind of a doctor are you?"

"I'm not a doctor yet, Jisung. But I study Gyn-Ob surgery and General Medicine. It's a huge field, but I wouldn't want to bore you with the details."

"Wow, that's really impressive," Jisung said, his voice filled with genuine admiration.
"You're on a whole different level."

Hana waved a hand dismissively, a teasing smile playing on her lips.
"Being a producer is way cooler though, don't you think?"

"Sure, but you're no less impressive,"
Chan said with a smile, only to be interrupted by a sudden yawn.

"I think the sleep is finally catching up to me,"
he admitted, sounding almost relieved.

"Maybe we should all call it a night?"
Hana suggested, stifling her own yawn.

"I'm sleepy too," Jisung whined and flopped on the mattress dramatically.
"Good night—or good morning? See you in a few hours."

Chan glanced at him, then at Hana, and his voice dropped to a whisper.
"Do you need clothes? You're literally in those baggy jeans. You're going to be uncomfortable."

Hana tilted her head. "Where exactly are you going to get me clothes from?"
She asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Umm... I may have clothes for you. Follow me."
He rose slowly, careful not to disturb the three boys still tangled up in the makeshift bed, their limbs sprawled across the floor like a tangled mess of blankets and bodies.

They walked to the same room Hana and Minho had talked earlier in the evening. He went straight to the closet.

After a brief search, he pulled out a neatly folded set of clothes.
"These should fit you just fine," he said, holding them up for her to see.

Hana raised an eyebrow, eyeing the clothes in his hands.
"How do you have girl clothes?"

"Oh, I have a sister who visits often. Funny thing, her name's Hannah—her spelling and pronunciation are a bit... Australian."

"Australian? How so?"

"Yeah, I don't think Minho mentioned it. I'm Korean-Australian. My whole family is, actually.
My parents, my youngest sibling Lucas, and Hannah—they all still live in Sydney."

"How come you ended up here, in Korea?"

"It was my dream you know? Becoming a producer, probably having my own album, concerts, and what not. But for that, I needed to make some sacrifices. Even if it meant I was going to be away from my parents, as early as 13 year's old."

"You were here all alone, at 13?"

"Not all alone, I've had friends. You know, they've stuck around, they became my second family."

"Still... that's really young, Chan."

"Yeah, it took me six years to debut. I couldn't have done it without Changbin and Jisung, and of course, the support of my parents. But I do have one regret."

"Regret? But you made it. What could you possibly regret?"

"I never saw my siblings grow up. I left when Hannah was just 7, and Lucas was only about 4. I missed those years." He forcefully chuckled.

"That must have been really hard, Chan."

"Yeah, it was. Especially with Lucas. I feel like I missed his whole early childhood. He's a teenager now, but I only remember him as this little kid who could talk just enough to get by. And Hannah... I missed her first dance recital, her school graduations—things that matter."

"Do they understand, though? Your family?"

"They do. They've always been supportive, even if they were sad about it. My parents knew I was chasing something bigger than just staying at home. But I still wish I could've been there for the little things... just to see them grow up, you know?"

"Yeah... I get that. I can't imagine missing out on that."

Chan looks down for a moment, his fingers absently tracing the edge of his phone screen. There's a quiet pause before he lifts his gaze back to me, a soft, wistful smile forming.

"But hey, I've got the memories I did make with them. And I go back as often as I can now. I try to make up for lost time, even if it'll never be enough."

"That's good, though. They must appreciate it."

"I hope so." Chan laughs lightly, but there's a trace of sadness in his voice.
"I guess I have to make sure the next chapter of their lives doesn't happen without me."

"Is it hard for you? Juggling things, especially knowing that your family loves and cares about you."

"It was... and maybe it still is. But it's like their blessing, in a way. They've always supported me, even when it meant I was far away. It's not easy, though. I have work on new tracks, collaborations, push myself to grow as a producer, that always left me with no time, for myself or for anyone else. But over time, I've learned how to balance it better- work, family, friends."

"Yeah, it sounds like you're figuring it out."

Chan nods slowly, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
"I'm trying. It's not perfect, but it's a work in progress."
He leans back slightly, stretching his shoulders as though letting go of some of the tension that had built up. "Some days are easier than others. But I'm getting there."

"I think you're doing more than fine. It's know very well that it's not easy, but you're doing your best."

"Thanks." He gives me a genuine look, appreciative but quiet.
"I guess that's all any of us can do. Keep going."

He let out a soft sigh, pushing himself to his feet.
"Alright, I should head out. But thanks again. I really needed to talk, I don't usually do that. I don't know why I felt okay doing it with you."

Hana glanced at him thoughtfully.
"Maybe because I get it. I think I know what you're going through."

He raised an eyebrow.
"Same situation?"

"Not exactly, I don't have siblings and well my parent's are... let's just say they aren't proud of me."

He let out a soft chuckle, though it didn't quite reach his eyes.
"Ah, mommy and daddy issues?"

Hana's smile faltered for a brief moment as she looked away, her voice quieter now.
"Yeah... something like that." She sighed, her gaze drifting. "It's not exactly the same, but... I get what it feels like to let down the people who have your back.

"Well, I've kept you here long enough, I'll let you go get comfortable. If you want, you can sleep here. You get the only-girl-privileges." He gestures towards the bed.
"The covers and bedding are all fresh, so don't worry about any of that."

"Thanks Chan, I'll take the bed if it's no issue. And take care of yourself, okay?"

"Of course, it's no problem. Take care of you too."
He smiles one last time before walking towards the door, his footsteps a little lighter than before.

All he can think as he leaves is,
"Why is she so familiar?"

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Minho's phone rings beside him, and he groans, reaching for it with one hand as he half-sits up.

"Hello?" he answers, his voice still thick with sleep.

"Baby, were you sleeping?" His mom's voice comes through.

"Yes mom, I'm at Chan's with the rest of my friends."
His tone softened when he heard his mom's sweet voice.

"Ah yes, just the 8 of you?"

"Nope, brough Hana with me."
He lets himself lie back down, eyes closing as he listens.

"Oh very well. I made Bulgogi for Hana, would you come pick it up on your way home?"

Minho chuckles, the teasing tone returning in his voice.
"Mom, what about me? Is Hana your daughter now?"

"Oh, come on. Let the poor girl eat! I missed her too."

Minho laughs, shaking his head.
"Ah, so she's completely won you over? I bet Hana would love to hear that."

"But seriously, is your friend okay? Last time she was here, she had bandages all over her hand. She looked troubled."

Minho sighs, a little more serious now.
"Mom, don't worry. She's doing okay. She got hurt while working, nothing much."

"Okay, if you say so. But tell me before you come, alright? Bye, baby."

"Bye, Mom."
Minho smiles softly after the call ends.

He mumbles to himself, still half-asleep,
"What's the time anyway?"

10:27am

Minho groans again, shifting to get comfortable.

"Quit being so loud, it's too early,"
Seungmin and Hyunjin whined, half-covered by their blankets.

Minho grinned, barely opening his eyes, and shoved his phone in their faces.
"It's 10:30 a.m., you bitches."

"Too bright! Get it away from me!"
Seungmin moaned, burying himself deeper in his blankets.

Minho smirked, pulling the blanket away playfully.
"I'll take it away if you wake up."

"Minho, just sleep, it's Sunday. No one cares,"
Hyunjin muttered, his voice thick with sleep.

Minho hesitated for a moment before realizing they were right. He was still tired. With a small sigh, he flopped back down onto the couch, giving up on trying to get everyone awake.
"Fine. I'm going back to sleep."

"Where's Hana?"
Minho murmured, his eyes drifting shut.

"She's sleeping in the guest room."
Chan mumbled from the floor, half-awake but tangled up in a mess of limbs with Felix, Changbin, and Han.

Right on cue, Hana appeared, her voice soft but cutting through her sleepy haze.
"Did anyone call for me?"

Chan squinted up at her, confused.
"How the fuck did you get out here so fast?"

"I was already awake and walking here,"
she shrugged, walking over to the couch with a small smile.
"I couldn't sleep."

Minho blinked slowly at her, his voice still low and heavy with drowsiness.
"Why couldn't you sleep?"

"I woke up around 9:30, stayed on my phone a little," Hana explained, sitting down beside him.
"But it's not like I couldn't sleep all night."

"Did you get a call?"

"Nope, thankfully, I didn't."

Minho stretched out, stifling another yawn.
"Then sleep now, alright? I'll wake you up later."

As they all slowly drifted back to deep sleep again without thinking, Hana leaned her head against the couch, letting herself relax.

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Later that afternoon, when the quiet was broken by the clink of dishes and the faint sound of laughter from the kitchen, as someone did the dishes, someone took out the utensils and some prepared the ingredients.

In the midst of the kitchen buzz, Chan and Seungmin were focused on cutting up chicken. Chan glanced over at Seungmin with an eyebrow raised, his knife paused mid-cut.
Chan looked at Seungmin with a raised brow. His gaze flickered over to Minho and Hana, still sitting close together on the couch, their heads barely a few inches apart, both of them fast asleep.

Chan's eyes narrowed slightly, and he let out a low, disbelieving chuckle.
"So you're telling me... they're not together?"

Seungmin didn't even need to look over; he already knew exactly who Chan was talking about.  Minho was snoozing soundly, while Hana's head rested on his shoulder, her body relaxed in deep sleep.

Seungmin chuckled, shaking his head.
"I mean, they might as well be. But like I said, they're not."

"Yeah, Not yet anyway."
Chan leaned back, as he looked at the two of them again.
"They're so obvious, though."

"You mean to everyone except them?" Seungmin teased.

"Exactly!" Chan almost laughed. "How can they not see it?"

Seungmin smirked, his eyes flicking back to the couch.
"I don't know, but they'll figure it out eventually."

Chan crossed his arms, his expression a mix of amusement and exasperation.
"It's honestly so obvious. But maybe that's the problem. Maybe they're both too stubborn."

"Maybe," Seungmin said with a grin,
"or maybe they just need time."

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Minho and Hana both shifted, their eyes blinking open at the same time—disoriented, groggy, and a little bit too close for comfort. They looked at each other with a mix of confusion and surprise, their faces only inches apart, and neither of them quite knowing how they had ended up like this.

Hana pulled back slightly, her hand instinctively brushing her disheveled hair out of her face as she blinked a few more times to shake off the remnants of sleep. Minho did the same, awkwardly sitting up, though his body seemed to protest the sudden movement.

His eyes darted around, trying to process everything—
How long had they been like this?
How had they ended up leaning on each other like two magnets that couldn't pull away?
And most importantly—why hadn't either of them woken up sooner?

"Uh..." Minho cleared his throat awkwardly, glancing at Hana, who was now fully sitting up, her cheeks tinged pink with the realization of how close they'd been.
"Sorry," he muttered, as if that could somehow explain the situation.

Hana blinked at him, still trying to process everything. "I—uh, well... it's... okay?"
she stammered, though the way her cheeks flushed told another story.

She shifted again, standing up a little too quickly, wincing slightly as her legs protested from the stiffness of the nap. "I... I don't know how we ended up like this."

"No, no it's okay. Did you sleep okay?"

"Yeah, I did, better than I did during the night."

"Well that's nice to hear. How about you go and wash up, they'll call us all for brunch soon."

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Just as Hana left, the sound of footsteps from the kitchen grew louder, signaling the arrival of his very entertaining friends.

Jeongin and Seungmin appeared in the doorway, both of them wearing smug grins that spoke volumes. They exchanged a glance, and it was clear from the gleam in their eyes that they were about to have way too much fun with this.

"Well, well, well..." Seungmin began, his voice dripping with exaggerated sweetness, savoring the moment. "Looks like someone had a very cozy nap."

Behind them, Chan and Felix, who had quietly slipped into the living room, stood off to the side, trying to hold back their laughter. The scene unfolding before them was a comedy show in real time, and they were loving every second of it.

Minho froze, the sudden attention making the air feel thick with embarrassment. Every awkward beat of silence seemed to stretch on longer than it should.

"What are you talking about?"
Minho snapped, his voice coming out sharper than he'd intended. His eyes darted nervously between Seungmin, Chan, and Felix, and he shifted awkwardly on the couch.

Seungmin leaned in slightly, his grin widening as he took in their discomfort.
"Oh, come on. You two were practically glued together. Don't tell me you didn't notice?"

"I—uh, we—" Minho stammered, his words tumbling out in a flurry, as he tried to make sense of the situation.
"I—It was... her. She just fell asleep, okay?"

He shot a quick, defensive look at the others, his posture becoming rigid.
"There wasn't much space on the couch, thanks to Hyunjin and Seungmin... so, yeah, she might've ended up on my shoulder."
Minho leaned back, trying to appear casual, but it only seemed to make his discomfort more apparent.

"It's not like we planned this. I—I just fell asleep. And... so did Hana."
He finished with an exaggerated shrug, as though the whole situation could be dismissed with a simple gesture.

Chan raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced, and gestured between Minho and Hana.
"Funny how that works, huh?"

Felix, who had been quietly watching the entire exchange with a barely-contained grin, chimed in. "Yeah, real funny."

Minho groaned, covering her face with his hands. "Oh, please, not you two too..."

"Aww is someone shy?"
Felix teased.

Minho rolled his eyes and slumped back into the couch, hoping it would swallow him whole. "You guys are ridiculous," he muttered, trying to play it off.

"What's really ridiculous is your obliviousness."
Felix said as he giggled.

He glared at the group, his patience wearing thin.
"Can we please just drop it already?"

Jeongin shot him a sly look but nodded.
"Okay, okay. We'll drop it—for now."

Minho shot him a pointed look. "Thanks."

With that, the audience started spread out, getting back to work.

But Seungmin wasn't done. He glanced around the room, then asked with a grin,
"But... you two do like each other, right?"

Minho froze, his eyes widening slightly.
"What?!"

Jeongin, impatient as ever, leaned forward with a smirk.
"Come on, Minho. It's so obvious. You both like each other, don't you? You've known each other for months now, so it's not that hard to believe you might be in love with her."

Before Minho could say anything, his throat caught, and he started coughing profusely, his body suddenly rebelling against the very question.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?"
Jeongin reached out.

"I—I'm fine, I'm fine," he managed to croak out between coughs, desperately trying to regain some control over the situation.

Seungmin and Jeongin exchanged a glance, clearly delighted at the reaction.

"Just admit it," Seungmin teased. "
We all know."

Minho wiped his mouth, still struggling to recover.
"I don't know what you're talking about,"
he muttered, but even he wasn't sure he believed the words coming out of his mouth anymore.

Jeongin just grinned, leaning back with a satisfied look. "Sure you don't."

Minho let out a long, defeated sigh.
"This is ridiculous. Please, don't make her feel embarrassed or uncomfortable by asking her this."

"Then how are we supposed to play cupid?"

"You're not playing cupid," Minho shot back, his tone firm.
"And you're not going to mention a word of this to her. I can't risk this driving her away."

Jeongin's gaze softened, and he looked at Minho with an almost knowing expression.
"Minho, I know you don't wear your heart on your sleeve, but... it'll be good for both of you."

"It'll give you love in new sight," Seungmin added thoughtfully, his voice quieter now.
"It won't be like that unrequited love you had back when you were younger."

Minho glanced up at Seungmin, his brow furrowing.
"How are you so sure?"

"I'm not. But I am sure of one thing, your feelings for her."
