Chapter 1.3

Shristi

My heavy eyelids slowly open as I groan, I turn to my nightstand and pick up the phone to check the time, 8:30 a.m. “School must've started.” I thought to myself before falling back into my bed with an exasperated sigh. There was still another week for me to return to my city. Mumbai air suffocated me, I liked nothing about this place, the people, the places, the non existent nature, everything failed to appease me.

When I opened my eyes again, it was 12 already. I walked out my room, back hunched with my hands rubbing my eyes. “Oh my god the queen is awake!” My mother exclaimed, sarcastically of course, and in reply my sister gave me a standing ovation which my mother joined. “When's the train?” I asked, completely uninterested in their perpetual idiocracy.

“Sunday, I guess?” My sister replied as she munched on the nth slice of cheese, she's disgusting sometimes.

“Way tha ‘I guss?’” I replied from the bathroom with my toothbrush in my mouth, which I pulled out and added, “You're in class tenth for God's sake! Do you not care about school?”

“I actually study everyday even without school, unlike someone.” My sister lifted her eyes from her phone and fixated them on me. I spat my toothpaste foam out into the sink whilst glaring at her. I gargled and then splashed my face with water before patting my face dry.

And that's when the phone rang, “Oh, your friend Suhasini is calling-” I rushed to my sister and grabbed the phone from my her hand.

“Hello?”

“What?”

“Oh.”

“B?”

“...A?”

“You too?”

“Okay, bye.”

“Damn what's with that shitty expression?” My sister asked.

“They shuffled us.” I said as I slowly put the phone down in disbelief, “And I'm in B now.”

“Why are you being so dramatic?” She laughed, “It's just a section change.”

“You wouldn't understand.” I spoke blankly and went into the room. How bad was my luck?
