"私はあなたの演説が好きだった。

"i got a letter, and this guy expects me to be able to read japanese!" she exclaimed, handing it over to her friend in frustration.
"i mean, it's not like you're japanese or anything, tsuki" haneul joked, looking over at her.
"my dad is, but he's not even in my life. don't you remember? i live with my korean mom in korea. my dad lives in japan, with his- whatever."
"you have half siblings, right?" he asked, trying to recall her telling him that.
"that's not the point! i can't read japanese.
i wish i had listened to taehyung when he said i should learn japanese to see why my dad left. he always thought someone must have a really good reason if they were to leave me. he always thought i was special." she sighed, moving her straw around aimlessly.
"why don't you ask your mom about him?"
"she won't talk about it. something about it being her fault. she says she still loves him and vice versa, but i don't see that possible if he was willing to get up and leave."
"there's probably more to it."
"whatever. i don't ever want to talk to him anyways."
they both sighed.
then, haneul took out his phone and held the letter up to the back of it.
"'i liked your speech.'
signed,
theodore v. karn."
"h-how did you-"
"i translated it, stupid."
she jokingly glared at him, grabbed the note, and began to walk off.
"thanks!" she said, making her way out of the store.
