5. Love At First Sight?
Ray was born to worry, I've never met anyone more worried then he was, over nothing might I add, unless they were on something. Which was why I wasn't taking his worrying that morning very serious. I didn't really know Julia all that well but I figured she was just worried because I was the first person from Ray's family to be introduced to her own. Except I'd already met most of them, how would a few more make a difference?
It was probably the case of a worrier marrying a fellow worrier.
They decided it was best for me to sit in the car before Julia whispered something about scent and then got out of the car. They said they'd have to talk to Liam.
I didn't mind much, but the sun really was doing a number on me. I couldn't take it anymore, opening the door I climbed out taking a couple deep breaths.
"You must be the Nicki I'm hearing so much about."
My eyes dragging up seeing nicely fitting jeans followed by a nicely pressed white t, partly covered by a brown leather jacket. He gave me sharp smile with all his teeth sparkling pearly white.
I hate him.
The thought shot through my mind as my boney legs rubbed together and I tugged on my own tattered jean jacket while my tounge dragged across my crooked teeth. I nodded but my tounge felt heavy in my mouth and I couldn't speak.
"I'm Liam Anderson," With that said he moved to put his hand on the small of my back but dodged it, doing my best to hold back a glare. He cleared hit throat as if to dispell the tension and started to guide me inside. It seemed everyone was watching from the window of the living room because they all ducked when I looked over at them.
Once inside, a girl with extremely short honey hair who was very much pregnant, took my hands in hers, "We're going to be great friends, I can feel it!" She had the biggest smile on her face.
"This is Bea and her husband is the one already in the food, Roann Briggs." Liam stated, giving me a tiny uncertain smile. Teeth still perfect. I really wanted to punch him, so maybe we'd both need braces.
I ignored the thought as best as I could, "Uh, I don't plan on staying long, when Ray says I'm good, I'll be out of their hair."
He gave me a incredulous look, "What do you mean good?" Liam looked tense and I really didn't want to be talking to him anymore.
Emma came to my rescue, without even knowing, "She got attacked by pirates and won! Now come on Nicki!"
I gave them a nod and let Emma pull me away, just glad to not be around him anymore. I could feel him watching me the entire day -which annoyed me to no end. The feeling to hit him grew only stronger with my anger but I did my best to hold back.
I just kept with Leo, the kids were a much better audience then the adults.
"You're bleeding." A deep voice came from behind me.
I jumped, turning around seeing low and behold Liam. He was right though, my shirt was starting to feel wet and sticky. "Uh thanks -I'll go find Ray.."
He stopped me -blocking my path, "That'll take to long and it might get worse. I can do it, follow me."
I held back on saying something that would surely make Ray mad about insulting his wives family. I did need help and if he said he could help then maybe he could -no matter how much of a pain he was.
I followed him inside going downstairs into a room filled with medical supplies and a few beds. He motioned for me to go sit on one while he grabbed a few things.
He carefully lifted up my shirt, shocks making there way across my skin from where his knuckles touched. I moved to hold the shirt, just glad that I was sitting because I don't think I'd be able to stand.
"I'm sorry, about earlier.." He breathed out, peeling off the bandage.
I winced, biting back my hiss, "You mean the almost grab or the creepy stares?" Or the way you just scream I have so much money, I don't know what to do with all it. Maybe I'll have a bonfire. But I kept that part to myself.
He seemed to wince from that but continued working, "Both.. I'm not like that but something about you.. I don't know I'm just sorry and I was just thinking that we could retry and maybe be friends." By the end he was looking up at me and his brown eyes just seemed to bore into me.
He seemed so sincere and I couldn't help the words that were poring out of my mouth, "I'm Nicki Jones," Outstretching my hand to him, "What's your name?"
He gave me a soft smile, "Liam Anderson.."
I don't know why I said it, I was leaving in probably a week or two and I really did hate him but just the way his eyes twinkled at me afterwards made me feel like I did the right thing...
