1. Runaway

I was starving, tired and bleeding. Being alone on the road for four years, does that to you. Yet, this was still the best idea I've ever had. Even out of everything I had to do, everything I've seen and everything that I was forced to do.

Seeing the house with the same address written on my palm of my hand. I made my way up the steps, wincing from the pain on my side. I took a deep breath before finally knocking loudly. It was early, around two in the morning but if I didn't get help soon I might bleed out this time.

The door swung open and a lady with messy red hair glared at me, "It's two in the morning, what do you think you are doing?!"

"Uh, is Ray Adams here?" If this was another wrong house, I was gonna lose it.

Her anger melted a little and she finally looked at me, "Why are you as- oh my gosh is that blood? Are you bleeding?!"

"That's kind of a stupid question but yeah I-" Hissing as I lifted my hand losing the pressure, "need Ray Adams."

She paled before guiding me inside, "I'm his wife, give me one second and I'll get him." She hurry and left, leaving me sitting the kitchen. I let my bag fall to the floor with a soft thud.

I could hear them quietly hurrying down the stairs, must have kids. "She's in here.. She knows you, why does she know you?" I heard the wife say before they entered the kitchen.

Ray froze as soon as he spotted me, "Nicki.."

"Hey Ray.." I replied before groaning as my side burned, "Nice seeing you but could you fix me up because I don't really want this to be the last thing I see."

He hurried over to me, having me lay down on the kitchen counter. My vision started to blur and their was this buzzing noise that drowned out there talking. I could feel hands on me and my side burning like hell before I passed out.

The light was blinding as I slowly opened my eyes. I was sore and my side ached but I moved out of the small bed I was placed in. This was an unfamiliar room, I had no idea where I was.

I grabbed my bag which sat by the door and quietly I went into the hallway, my eyes meeting a picture on the wall. Their was a small girl smiling a gapped tooth smile at the camera while a redheaded lady held a small baby boy and a man hugging them tightly, a happy, genuine smile on his face.. Ray. Everything that happened last night hit me like a ton of bricks.

I quietly made my way downstairs, hearing voices from the kitchen, "Your half-sister? I thought you said she died?"

"I said she disappeared, we didn't really keep in touch when I left. I didn't even know she knew where I lived."

"What're we going to do? How do we explain this to Emma?"

"I don't know but she should be waking up soon."

I rolled my eyes, geez I wasn't going to mooch off of them, I just wanted to get fixed up, a shower and some food. I'd be off soon enough. Well so much for that.

I moved, making my way to the front door but a small voice stopped me from opening it, "Who are you?"

I held in my groan, turning around seeing the same girl from the picture. Except her fiery red hair was longer and her bright green eyes looked just like my own. "I'm Nicki, who are you?"

"I'm Emma Julia Adams, your eyes look like mine."

I smiled a bit, "And your eyes look like mine, I see our dilemma.."

She nodded, "How come you're leaving?"

"I just stopped to say hi to your old man."

"My old man?" She questioned, her eyes filling with curiosity.

I smirked, "Your pops, father, dad, daddy, daddy-O. Any of those ringing a bell?"

She put her hands onto her hips, "I'm not stupid-" Except before she could finish Ray and his wife came out of the kitchen.

"Emma.. Nicki.." Ray whispered glancing sheepishly at his wife.

She just sighed before giving me a soft smile, "Breakfast is ready."

So much for my escape.

I followed Emma into the kitchen, my brother stopping me, "We'll talk about this soon." He whispered before letting go.

I nodded before moving to sit at the table, hissing lightly.

"What's wrong?" Emma asked while shoving some bacon in her mouth.

Ray and his wife gave me a strict look but I ignored them turning back to Emma, "I was fighting pirates." I replied, giving her a wink.

She frowned at me, "That's not true, pirates don't exsist!"

I tsked, shaking my head, "Of course they do! Their I was, minding my own business with my group of friends on the Pacific and then BAM!" My yell and hand slamming down on the table caused the others to jump, "Two boats flanking us left and right. They both started to board our boat while we were still moving but we kicked into action.

See we've been training just in case something like that ever happened.

Anyways, swords were clashing, guns were firing and canons were shooting. It was a mess but even with a small group we were winning. More of their people were falling into water and things were looking up. Except, I got surrounded but with my skills I was able to take out all but one. The nasty trick was, they were playing dirty and one snuck up behind me, almost slicing me in half. My buddies hurry and came to my rescue and we finished them off." Emma was practically hanging onto my every word. I missed that..

"As soon as I got to shore I made my way here, see your dad is the best medic I've ever known. Saved my life more times than you can count."

"What about your friends? What happened to them?" She asked, bouncing in her seat.

I smirked, "They went back into sea, living the dream."

She smiled and started talking about how she wanted to go on a boat. I ate my breakfast, my first real meal in months.

When she finished she turned to her mom, "Are we going to the pack house today?"

The two paled before Ray's wife cleared her throat, "Yes, go and get dressed."

She left, but not before telling me a rushed goodbye.

"What actually happened?" Ray asked giving me a pointed look.

I avoided his eyes, "Got high with a couple people but the guy apparently stole it. These guys came so fast, practically gave me wiplash. One had a knife and I got cut. I would've stitched myself back up but I didn't have the right stuff without it getting infected so when I figured out you lived the next town over. I hopped a train and here I am."

"Nicki.." He groaned while his wife looked at me with wide eyes.

I rolled my eyes, "Don't worry I'll be gone soon enough."

"No, I need to keep an eye on your wound it's in very bad shape."

I sighed, rolling my eyes again but I didn't argue. A free place with a bed, food and shower? No way I was gonna pass that up.

Their was one thing that confused me though, "Hey, what's a pack house?"
