Chapter 15: Mine (Persephone's POV)
I nodded slowly, "I hope so. I hope we do exceed each other's expectations." I gave him a small smile.
He moved closer and I sucked in a breath. "Now grant me my wish," he smirked.
I kind of want to, and that thought really scares me. Because I've known him all of three days. And he already has such a strong pull, such a strong hold on me. I feel a sense of loyalty towards him. I don't want to do him wrong, I don't want to disappoint him, I want to be the person that's always by his side, no matter what happens. Because looking at him, it feels like he's never had a person like that. Maybe I really am his Persephone. That thought doesn't bother me so much anymore.
"Do it, I dare you," he teased. "Kiss me like you're mine, Persephone."
I stared at him for a short minute, my eyes flickering between his. I blinked a few times. Should I? "I am yours," I whispered hesitantly.
He let out a breath, the look in his eyes changing. "There," he whispered. "You exceeded my expectations just then." He brought his hand up, tilting my chin up with his finger while his eyes clouded with desire. That was the first and the only emotion I could make out. He leaned down, pressing his lips to mine. There. He just exceeded my expectations too.
I was expecting the kiss to feel somewhat devouring, with too much passion for someone like me to handle in the first kiss.
But he didn't do that. Not at all, the opposite, actually. His lips barely feathered over mine in a very soft kiss. If you could even call it a kiss, his lips met mine only for a few seconds. He pulled away, probably knowing what I was thinking.
Does he really call that a kiss?
"Yes," he nodded, smirking. "I do call that a kiss. Don't you?"
"No," I scoffed. "And if that's what you were going to do then... whatever."
"What? That didn't exceed your expectations?"
"It did, but... not in the way I wanted it to," I admitted.
"Well then, what is it that you were wanting?"
"An actual kiss," I chuckled dryly.
He shook his head, feigning confusion. "Doesn't ring a bell. Care to show me?"
"Nice trick. But I won't be the first to kiss you."
I think I might.
"Why not? You just admitted you were mine."
"Only if you're mine. Equality. Play fair, Hades."
"I am yours too. So is my heart. So is my soul. So is my body. So is my love. It's all yours. If you're willing to take it."
I think I'm more than willing right now. I blinked in surprise.
He didn't read that. He couldn't have resisted saying something had he read that.
"You didn't read my thoughts," I pointed out.
He nodded. "I don't always read them. I try doing what you asked me to. It's just... sometimes curiosity gets the better of me," he shrugged. "Why?"
I shook my head softly, smiling. "Nothing."
He narrowed his eyes, analyzing me.
"Nothing, I swear," I chuckled. "Can we get out of here? I want to see my room," I said, going up on my toes, grinning like a child.
He nodded slowly, pulling away and grabbing my hand.
While we started walking out, I hesitantly said what I was thinking. "You know, I didn't think you'd..." I might offend him, I probably shouldn't say it.
"What? That I'd give you your own room here?"
I stared at him, pulling my lips together into a thin line.
"I wouldn't make you share a bed or room with me, Persephone," he chuckled. "I'm not that cruel."
"That's not cruel, but... you know, I... anyway, thanks."
He watched me carefully as we went downstairs. "I get the feeling you're not used to people doing things for you. Are you?"
I shook my head. "My parents didn't stick around a lot, you know. I love them, I do. But... wait." I stopped abruptly, staring at him wide-eyed. "Are they my real parents?"
He stared at me, biting back a laugh. "Who do you think are your real parents if not them?"
"I don't know, I'm asking you."
"They are your real parents, Persephone," he smiled. "You were born human. You were made human before your mother fell pregnant with you."
"Doesn't that mean my soul was made human?"
"Yes."
"Then how can I change that? Even after marrying you?"
"Because your soul was born a goddess. It can go back to what it was created as. You may not understand now but you will when everything happens. Don't worry. And I'll keep you safe."
I watched him, a small smile on my lips as we continued walking. "You will?"
"Of course, I will. You're mine. To protect, to keep, to want." He smirked at me. "To tease and torment too."
I chuckled, looking away from him.
"That's my priority, Persephone. I know you might think it's just getting you to marry me so things get better for me, but no. My priority is keeping you safe. And I'll do it. No matter what."
"Is that a promise?" I asked as we reached the hallway that our rooms were in.
He nodded, looking at me. "Sure is." He walked ahead while I stood in one spot, watching him. "This is my room." He gestured to the door on his right. "And this one is yours." Then to the one on his left. He spun around, looking at me in confusion. "Something wrong?"
I shook my head, smiling to myself. "No, not at all." I walked over, stopping in front of him. I want to kiss him. And I know it's early. Maybe too early. But I don't care. It can't be too early when we have eternity ahead of us. I want to stop doubting my present. Even I think I'm destined to be with him, why won't I just let myself admit it. Maybe it's because I've never had anybody really stick around like he's promising he will. "Will you stay, Hades? By my side. Forever."
He nodded. "Undoubtedly. Forever." He says that like he's so sure. And... I think he is. He really is that sure. "Why?" he questioned.
"Because if we're going to be together forever I should allow myself to do what I want, right?"
He nodded unsurely. "What is it that you want then?"
"Nothing much. Just to do something."
He knows what I'm talking about. The glint in his eyes tells me that much. "What might that be?" He grabbed my waist, pulling me closer.
"Nothing," I chuckled.
He nodded, clearly unconvinced. "Right, of course. Nothing but this." He tilted my chin up again, pressing his lips to mine in a kiss deeper, harder, stronger than last time.
It all happened too fast, the way we kissed. It was nothing like the last kiss. Our lips crashed together this time, like fire and ice. It felt like there was magic just in the way we kissed. It felt like we connected and exploded at the same time. It felt like he was trying to blend us into one. Into something intimate.
He's practically still a stranger. He won't be one day, but he is right now. And that's why it scared me. When we touched, even when we were just around each other, it felt like we belonged together. Like we were carved out, down to the smallest detail, purely for each other. And that scared and yet somehow thrilled me at the same time.
He pulled away after pushing me into my door, my back hitting it with a soft thud. He let out a sigh, staring at me. "I want to kiss you," he mumbled. "A lot. And everywhere. But..." He frowned, closing his eyes with another sigh. "It's too early."
I nodded softly. "Okay."
"So... we'll take our time with it."
"Okay," I said again.
He took a step back, tracing his bottom lip with his thumb. "You should freshen up. Dinner will be ready soon."
I nodded in understanding, reaching for the handle behind me and twisting it open. "I'll see you at the table?"
He smirked, leaning against his door, watching me. "I don't think you can find the table on your own," he chuckled.
I rolled my eyes, turning around and going into my room. I started to close the door, stopping halfway and looking at him.
"I'll wait out here for you," he said, smiling softly.
"Great," I smiled back, going into the room. I sighed in frustration, glaring at my suitcase in the corner of the room. I have to unpack now, really? The door opened and I spun around, coming face to face with him.
"Don't bother asking," he teased. He nodded towards the closet and I frowned in confusion, slowly walking over to it and opening the double doors.
I gasped, seeing all my stuff already there. Organized this time. And there were even some new additions. Dresses, tops, skirts. New shoes. New heels. I grinned, turning around. "Thank you. You didn't have to get all the new stuff."
"Consider it a 'welcome home' gift. Get dressed, okay? I'll wait for you outside."
I nodded, grabbing a fresh pair of pajamas as he left.
