The Night Raid and Abduction

That same evening, all the Narnians and the seven friends began preparing for their first battle against the Telmarines, the night raid. Jane and a few lady Centaurs went to the separate room in the How to help her sister and Susan get dressed. Dawn removed the top part of her mustard yellow dress and stuck to its skirt and cream coloured underdress with long sleeves. Susan also stuck with her purple skirt, her long sleeved underdress and put on her leather armour and gorget with Jane and the Centaur's help. Jane helped Dawn with lacing up one of her knee high suede boots and Susan helped her friend with her leather armour that hugged her body well. Dawn tightened her shoulder pad on her left and the Centaur tightened her another shoulder pad on the right. The three girls nodded as they looked over. Both Dawn and Susan thanked Jane and the Centaur and they gathered up their weapons. Susan with her bow and arrows and Dawn grabbed her dagger, headphones and sword.

Esther was in another room getting ready for the raid. She put on a leather armour over her long sleeved dress with the help of Lucy and grabbed her dagger and fastened it to her belt. "Do you really think my brother's plan will work out, Est?" Lucy asked worryingly while lacing up Esther's armour. Esther sighed. "We can only hope and see, Lu." Was all she could answer at this time. Lucy nodded, but deep down she did not agree with the raid because it was too much of a risky thing for her siblings and friends. All she wanted was for everyone to wait for Aslan.

It was now sunset and those who had joined the raid were now starting to exit the How. One of the female Centaurs was bidding her husband Glenstorm and her sons farewell. Jane and Lucy hurried outside and gave Dawn, Susan and Esther a hug. "Be careful." She whispered. "Please come back alive." Esther nodded. "I hope so too." She said sadly. Lucy turned and see Peter looking very unamused. "Don't be too disappointed in your brother, Lu. He has a lot in his mind with saving Narnia at the moment. Peter worries about you and his girlfriend the most than the others he can't be more concerned of." Lucy slowly nodded. Esther gave her a hug and kissed her forehead. Jane then approached to her sister and brother. "I can't believe this is my first time fighting against the baddies." Daniel said somewhat nervously.

"You don't have to do this if you don't want to, Dan." Jane told him.

"Well I do." Daniel said bravely. "For Narnia. And for Aslan."

Jane nodded and gave each her brother and sister a hug. "Look after each other." She whispered. They nodded. "We will, Jane." Dawn said. "Don't worry." Jane waved goodbye as she sadly watched her siblings and her friends go accompanied by some other Narnian creatures. Lucy gave Peter one last disappointed look and walked back into the How with Jane. Peter just have his sister a glance and walked after the others. As the six friends and the other Narnians walked further out of the How and into the forest, they spotted the seven gryphons that awaited them.

Peter stood beside Dawn by left. "Fly safe." He said to his girlfriend. Dawn nodded. "You too." She said back. While most Narnians traveled to the castle by foot, each of the gryphons grabbed Peter, Dawn, Susan, Edmund, Caspian, Trumpkin, Esther and Daniel by their waists and lifted them off from the ground. They flew the six friends, the Prince and the dwarf off into the darkening sky. The flight was short. The first and second gryphons that were carrying Edmund and Daniel dropped them off at one of the towers of the castle. Daniel held onto his magic ball and Edmund turned his torch on, preparing for the signal.

Once the flickering light was seen in the night, they moved in. Caspian dropped lower from his gryphon to slay one Telmarine soldier with his sword, and Susan shot another as she, Peter and Dawn landed. Lastly, Esther and Trumpkin landed from their gryphons. They gathered together on the tiny boardwalk of the castle and headed towards the windowsill. Then Esther sliced her dagger through the crack of the window to open it up for Caspian and her friends.

"Professor?" Caspian whispered as he climbed into the room, but it was empty. Nothing but some books and a pair of glasses. Dawn, Peter, Susan and Esther followed behind him. The Prince held up the pair of glasses with his eyes big and wide. "I have to find him." He told them.

"We don't have time." Peter hissed. "You have to get to the gatehouse!"

"You wouldn't even be here without him." Caspian argued. "And neither would we." The five friends and the Prince exchanged glances at each other. "We can take care of Miraz." Susan suggested. Peter and Dawn nodded.

"I'll go with you and find him." Esther added.

"And we can still make it to the gatehouse in time." Caspian assured.

Peter sighed and nodded. The Prince grabbed Esther's hand and they both fled from the room, hurried down the corridors as quietly as they could. They headed to the dungeons, where Caspian whacked his sword across the sleeping guard's head. And he fell on the floor with a crash. Esther took the keys from the guard's belt and passed it to Caspian. And he unlocked the cell where an elderly man with long white beard was sleeping, the professor. Both the Prince and Esther shook him to awake.

"Five more minutes?" He asked the professor teasingly. Esther snorted a little and rolled her eyes at his question.

"We have to go now." Esther said. Before Caspian could say something, the elderly man woke up. "What are you doing here?" He gasped. "I didn't help you escape just so you could get captured again. You have to get out before Miraz learns you're here!"

Esther nodded. "He'll learn soon enough." Caspian replied. "We are giving him your cell." Esther nodded again and didn't say a word.

"Don't underestimate Miraz as your father did." Doctor Cornelius warned. Esther raised an eyebrow.

"What are you talking about?" Caspian asked him. Doctor Cornelius sighed sadly and looked down. "I'm sorry..." was all he could say. Caspian looked at the Professor in disbelief. Without a word, he ran off from the dungeons.

"Caspian!" Esther called out. "Where are you going? We both have to go to the gatehouse!" She told him. Caspian continued to run upstairs. Esther decided to go after the Prince.

"Sir." She said to the Professor. "Get ready your horse and for the Prince. I'll go let him know."and hurried off. The Prince went into the Miraz's chamber and find him sleeping with his wife in a bed. He held his sword to his throat and Miraz began to awake. "Thank goodness..." he chuckled. "You're safe."

"Get up." Caspian ordered through gritted teeth. Esther arrived into the chamber behind him. Miraz then woke up and climbed out of the bed. His wife beside him sat up. "Caspian?" She looked a little surprised.

"Stay where you are." The Prince told the woman.

"What are you doing?" Esther and the woman asked in unison. Esther looked like she was panicking a little. "Caspian, you have to go to the gatehouse now." She told him. Miraz made a little mischievous grin. "I should think it's obvious, dear." He said to his wife. Then he looked at his nephew. "You know, some might consider this inappropriate behaviour." He said.

"That doesn't seem to have stopped you." Caspian talked back to his uncle. Miraz gave him a mock sympathy look.

"But you're not like me, are you? ... " He mocked him. "It's sad. The first time you so any backbone, and it's such a waste." Miraz's wife aimed a crossbow at Caspian. "Put the sword down, Caspian." She warned. "I don't want to do this." Just then, Peter, Dawn and Susan barged into the chamber. Susan drew her bow and arrow at the woman and Peter and Dawn drew their swords. "And we don't want you to, either!" Susan added.

"This used to be a private room." Miraz announced to the children. The children ignored him.

"Caspian, what are you doing?" Peter asked the Prince. "You're supposed to be at the gatehouse!" Dawn nodded, but Caspian refused.

"No!" He shouted. "For once I want to know the truth!" The Prince turned to his uncle with a death glare. "Did you kill my father?" Miraz rolled his eyes with annoyance. "Now we get to it." He groaned. His wife, who was still holding the crossbow, looked confused. "You said your brother died in his sleep." She said.

"That was more or less true." Miraz replied. Dawn pointed her sword to the direction where he is. "What do you supposed to mean?!" She asked the Telmarine. "Did you really?" Miraz gave her a little devil smirk and shrugged his shoulders. His wife lowered her crossbow and looked at him in disbelief. "How could you..?" She said.

"For the same reason, you will pull the trigger!" He talked back. Miraz then spots Esther behind Caspian. He then walked forward towards her and the Prince, but he stepped back.

"Stop!" Dawn yelled.

"Stay right there!" Susan added. But Miraz shoved Caspian out of the way and grabbed Esther with one hand and his dagger on the other. "Awe, such a shame this pretty little thing can't stay together with you all for long." Miraz mocked. Esther squmired a bit. "Don't listen to him..." She warned her friends.

"Lay off of her now!" Peter commanded, pointing his sword to the Telmarine lord's direction.

"She does not belong to you!" Dawn warned. Miraz looked at them in a mock sympathy look. "Ohh, you meddling kids are so loyal to her." He said sarcastically. "What a tragic friendship."

Esther groaned at this. He was right, but that didn't mean she didn't care for them. Miraz then turned to his wife. "For our son!" He said, with his voice becoming like a crescendo. "You must choose. Do you want our child to be king or do you want him to be like Caspian here? Fatherless!"

"Nooo!!" The woman cried out in agony and shot the arrow at Caspian in the arm. He fell to the ground, allowing his uncle to escape through a secret door with Esther. "Guards!" Miraz called out as he exited the room. The Telmarine guards appeared in front of him. "Take this pretty one to the dungeons." He ordered. "And make sure she does NOT move an inch!"

"Yes, my lord." The two guards nodded. They both grabbed Esther by her biceps and dragged her off through hallway. Esther squirmed. "Let go of me!" She cried out. Caspian furiously ripped the arrow out of his arm and he, Peter, Dawn and Susan exited the room leaving the sobbing woman behind. "What do we do?" Dawn panicked.

Peter didn't want to leave Esther but the only thing he could thing of was..."Retreat." So, he and Dawn ran out of the castle and to the gatehouse. He shouted to Edmund and Daniel who were up at the tower. "We're a bit busy, Pete!" Edmund called out while he and his friend were struggling with one of the Telmarine guards. Edmund called out at the same time. "Where is Esther?!"

Dawn froze by his question. She had the loss of what to say. She only looked up to her friend and brother shaking her head and gave them the 'I'm sorry' look. The color from Edmund's face drained. Peter headed to the wheel and grabbed a hold of it, but he, Dawn, Susan and Caspian faltered. "Peter, it's too late!" Dawn yelled over the warning bells.

"We have to call it off while we still can!" Susan agreed. But Peter wouldn't listen to the girls.

"No, I can still do this. Help me!" He commanded. Caspian and Dawn joined the High King in heaving the gate open.

"Just who exactly are you doing this for, Peter?" Susan asked her brother over the alarm as she joined them, but Peter thought about the question. Momentarily, Edmund and Daniel signaled the troops. Dawn took a deep breath as the others charge in. Peter turned from the wheel and drew his sword.

"For Narnia!" He yelled.

You forgot for Aslan, Pete. Dawn thought. "And for Aslan!" She added on her boyfriend's behalf and drew her sword and ran forward to charge the Telmarines. This was supposed to be a raid. Not an actual battle. Dawn thought as she sliced one of the soldier's back. There was a lot of fighting. The Narnian creatures killed off as many Telmarines as they could. The children split up in various directions of the castle. Dawn saw Peter in the distance and tried to reach to where he was. Edmund and Daniel knocked a few archers off the roof. Daniel threw his icy ball at one of them. This turned the other archers' attention to the two boys.

"Ed! Dan!" Peter yelled out to his brother and friend as he saw what was happening. Edmund and Daniel turned to see the Telmarine archers and they both ran into the towers and slammed the door shut as the arrows were fired.

Dawn then saw Miraz emerged on the balcony surrounded by his army. One of the Minotaurs named Tyrus, jumped from roof to roof and grabbed the balcony ledge. He reached for his sword but before he could stab Miraz, an arrow pierced his chest. He froze and the Telmarine king pushed the Minotaur off the window, sending him and crashing onto the stone floor.

"Oh God!" Dawn gasped as she saw it.

"Fall back!" Peter called out. "Retreat!" He ran down the stairs and assisted other Narnians to escape from the castle. Glenstorm galloped and swept Susan onto his back.

"Caspian?!" She warned her brother as she rode out.

"I'll find him!" Peter reassured. Suddenly, Caspian entered on his horse next to the one which his professor was riding.

As Dawn began to catch up with the other Narnians, she met up with another Telmarine soldier. By somehow she was no match for him and he knocked her head down with his shield unconscious on the ground. The last thing she saw was Daniel and Edmund with shocked and worried looks on their faces.
