Until We Meet Again
I can't resist, you guys! Sorry for a million updates recently...
Stevie spent the night in her own bed, cuddled up with her husband. Christine removed all drugs and alcohol from the house, helped with Leo and even made dinner for them in an attempt to make Stevie feel extra loved. They wanted her to feel like she didn't need the drugs ever again. Her sun came out again and they noticed her personality was reverting back. It was like night and day.
"Good morning!" She says, cheerfully the next morning. Leo is on her hip and Lindsey smiles at her, knowing this is how it's supposed to be.
"Good morning, my loves" he says, kissing his wife and then his little boy on their cheeks. "God, you look so good with that baby"
"Thank you" she blushes.
"How are we feeling today?"
"Pretty good actually"
"I'm so glad" He strokes her hair. Yes, she is definitely different. Leo hung the moon in her eyes and she was finding serenity with him now that he had been returned.
"I want to make a doctor's appointment for Leo. I want him checked out"
"I can set that up later today"
"Thank you" she says, kissing him passionately and Lindsey's eyes flew open at the pressure. "I love you so much"
"I love you too" he says dreamily.
"Alright, enough of that. How about breakfast?" The tall blonde asks, plating up the food she had made.
Everyone eats in silence, nervous about how today will go. Stevie was on edge and so quiet after her initial chipper mood. It's finally hit her what today will mean for them. She wanted to talk to her, to see her. To show her how much pain she put her through. Maybe it would bring Carol joy, maybe it will bring her pain. Either way, she had to show that she was no longer going to sit back and take it. Stevie didn't finish her breakfast, she quickly left the table to go upstairs and change her clothes. She picked a slightly form fitting dress, boots and a shawl, did her hair and put on a little make up. She examined herself in the mirror and though she didn't quite look like herself, she smiled and accepted her appearance. The others were already dressed so she was the last one, per usual. She cuddled with Leo on the couch, trying to take her mind off of her plan. Lindsey and Christine called her to the foyer much too soon; they were ready to leave. She had an appointment time of 10:30 and she couldn't be late.
"Fight for them" she tells herself before joining them with her son on her hip. The baby was talkative in the car, babbling away and she loved the sound but before making it to the station, Stevie started crying and had to collect herself. Leo had muttered the word mama for the first time in her presence and she knew due to circumstance it was meant for someone else. She almost had a panic attack so they had to stop the car and Lindsey got out to soothe her. It was hard to hear his wife cry over Carol Ann being a mother to him and though her son loved her and clearly felt so safe with her, she wasn't his mother right now.
Back on the road, they eventually made it to their destination, parked and hurried inside. Stevie wanted to be alone so Christine and Lindsey waited with Leo while Stevie went through security, showed identification and signed in. She was taken back by an officer, blowing a kiss back to Lindsey before leaving. Lindsey bobbed his leg up and down and bit his nails. He didn't know how long this would take and frankly he was shocked she went through with it. But then again, not so much. Stevie was always determined and as a mother she was fiercely protective of her son.
Carol was led out to a table in handcuffs to wait for her visitor. She had no idea who was coming so when she saw a frail looking Stevie coming toward her, she smiled.
"Stevie!" She squealed but Stevie didn't respond, simply sitting down in the chair opposite her. "Are you here alone?"
"No"
"Is Lindsey here?"
"What does it matter?"
"He is! Oh I can't wait to see him again"
"He won't be coming back. It's just you and me."
"Why?"
"Don't ask questions" Stevie says sharply, as if reprimanding a child. "So this is what you look like with dark hair. Black really isn't your color. It washes you out completely" Carol, feeling always inferior to Stevie, looks away. The jab at her appearance hurt. "Let's cut to the chase, shall we? I know you hate me and frankly I don't like you either. I think you're a two-bit, money hungry, artless, joke of a person. I know you get off on people saying we look alike but it's truly laughable. We look nothing alike and Lindsey didn't choose you for your looks, your supposed brains or your ability to do anything more than be a place holder for me. You were around when I dropped him like a bad habit" she says casually. Carol was shocked. She had never heard Stevie be so intentionally mean before and she told her so. "Do you think I care about your feelings, Carol? You took my son from me on a beautiful day in June. You had no right to even be there yet you slinked in and took what was never yours again. First Lindsey then my baby."
"I called him Devon. He got really attached to me."
"He had no choice because you took him from me. You fed him and changed his diapers. He doesn't love you, he is my son."
"He calls me mama"
"Shut up Carol!"
"Did you hear him say it? Isn't it so cute?"
"Enough"
"Does it bother you that I could so easily take your place? Maybe you aren't that special after all" Carol says with a laugh.
"Taking someone's child is no feat. It's not a talent, it's sick"
"Did it scare you?"
"To death" Stevie admitted, knowing she was losing control of the situation. She could feel tears coming and she tried her best to stop them. "I hate you. You destroyed my life. My son was four months old when you took him from me. Lindsey and I had finally gotten to a point where we were a family. We had wanted this for so long and something always got in the way. You got in the way. I was lost without him, I couldn't eat or sleep. My relationship with my husband was failing. The album suffered, the tour was canceled...I couldn't go out there now if I wanted to"
Carol smiled at Stevie's confession. "You turned back to drugs. How did you like that last little batch I sent you?"
"You bitch!" Stevie screamed, standing up from her chair. "Your fucking Christmas tree concoction almost killed me! How dare you! What I do is none of your business and the fact that you keep popping up in my life infuriates me!" The officers stood in the doorway, unmoving.
"Aren't you going to make her calm down?" Carol asked the police officers and they shook their heads.
"No one is here to save you Carol. You preyed on some sad, lonely old woman to get information about us. You're obsessed."
"It's not about you. It's Lindsey. I came to his mom's house to try and make you lose your baby. I wanted you to go away. I wanted Lindsey to leave you and come back to me. And he would have. I know he would have."
"You're disgusting"
"When that didn't happen, I took him. I wanted you to suffer like I did. I kept hearing news of the album and seeing your pictures in magazines and I knew I had to do something to you too. Cokewhore Barbie needed a Tune-Up" Carol said, feeling proud of herself.
"I hope you rot! No jury will find you not guilty. You're twisted and soon everyone will know you're a psycho bitch from hell" Carol loved seeing the anger in Stevie's dark brown eyes. It made it all much more worth it. "I, I don't know why I came here" Stevie said quietly.
"Let me see Lindsey" Carol asks.
"Why would I do a thing like that?"
"If it's really over between he and I, don't you think he should be the one to tell me?"
"He has told you. He married me, he bought a house with me, he has children with me..."
"Children?" Carol asks, caught off guard. "You have a son together...unless you're...no..." she says, tears streaming down her face. "No...you're not. You're lying!" She screams, standing up from the table and the police officers take a step toward her.
"I'm not lying" Stevie says. "It's true"
"You're pregnant?"
"Yes and Lindsey is absolutely over the moon" she says, driving the proverbial knife in even deeper and twisting the blade. "Why? Does that bother you? We aren't done either, we want to have more!"
"You fucking whore! You hate me? Well I hate you even more! I will not stop! You can't always win! I will destroy you!" Carol screamed like a banshee and someone must have alerted Lindsey because he came running through the doors and to Stevie's side. Carol launched herself at him and the cops pulled her away. "How could you Lindsey? How could you knock that bitch up for a second fucking time?"
"Don't you dare talk about my wife that way" Lindsey boomed and it made Carol freeze. "You are nothing Carol, you never were. I love Stevie more than anything in this world. Even before the babies, I would have died for her. I would have done anything for her and now, it's shot through the roof. We are a family and you have no part"
"I want a part. I know you love me" Carol cries and Lindsey shakes his head. "You do"
"Nope, never" he says with a shrug.
"I won't be in jail forever, you know. I will find you and I will ruin your life again. You may be sitting pretty now, but you just wait!"
Stevie is breathing heavily and is close to hyperventilating. She feels faint and grabs for Lindsey. A pain shoots through her stomach and she places a light touch over it. "Ouch" she breathes.
"Are you okay?" Lindsey asks her quietly.
"Looks like my work here is done" she says, noticing what's going on before her. "When she loses that baby, come see me Lindsey. Tell me all about it. I can't wait!" She looks much too proud of herself as the police officers haul her back to her cell. "Until we meet again!" She calls and it could be heard echoing through the hall along with her laughter.
"Let's get you checked out"
"I can't lose this baby, Lindsey"
"I know. That's why I think we should go back to the hospital." Lindsey says and she nods, weeping.
"Help us" she begs. Lindsey has to look away to wipe his own tears. He can't let Carol win. The fact she had pushed Stevie to this point made him sick. He scooped up his little wife and rushed her with a police escort to the emergency room. Christine with baby Leo, Lindsey and Stevie were all taken back to a private room and they are held their breath, hoping it wasn't too late.
